Chapter 67: Preparation for the School Festival Part 1
Nothing happened during the Battle Fiesta. Well, that might not be true for Razé, but basically nothing unexpected happened to the students. Next on the schedule would be the school festival.
Currently, it was the school festival preparation period. The students were enjoying their youth as they worked closely with their classmates to prepare the class program, just like how it was done in Razé’s previous life.
Carna and Razé had already distributed guidelines to explain the concept of school festival together with a number of examples of class programs. Although it was their first time to organize a school festival, it seemed the event would turn out well.
Compared to her previous life, the preparation period was shorter but they managed to progress efficiently, quickly and with good quality because this world had magic. Additionally, the alumni had provided them with sufficient budget after hearing about this event. It was an aristocratic school after all.
The class programs were expected to be fairly high level. It could be affirmed by just looking at the exterior, which was almost completed. Each class had high quality decoration that made it looked like a real shop.
Carna: “Razé! Can you help me to pass this to Hugan-sensei?”
Razé: “Sure.”
Carna: “Oh, one more thing. This document needs Principal Harlens’ approval.”
Razé: “I’ll take care of it.”
Carna: “Really? Thank you.”
Razé: “No problem.”
The classroom that the school festival steering committee were using as their office was very hectic.
Carna, as the chairperson of the committee would give out orders to the members, while Claude worked as her assistant. Ruben and Adis were in charge of patrolling the campus, while Folia, Luca and Ian were in charge of preparing the lanterns decoration.
Just like Claude, Razé assisted Carna and also served as the corresponding secretary and courier. It was more like a gofer, running errands for everyone. But she didn’t think it was a menial job. She was happy to help her goddess kept things going smoothly.
Razé left the classroom with the necessary documents. Normally, it was prohibited to use magic frivolously inside the campus, but they had been given special permission during this period so that everyone could do their work efficiently.
And so, Razé use teleportation without any reservation as she went around making delivery. First, she teleported to the staff room and went to see Hugan.
Razé: “Hugan-sensei. This is the details for the program at the hall by the volunteers.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHugan: “Okay. Thank you.”
Razé: “After this, we plan to gather representatives from each group to decide the lighting, sound system and the rehearsal schedule.”
Hugan: “Okay, noted. I’ll do the preparation. You take care of the rest. I’m not so familiar with this kind of thing.”
Razé: “Don’t worry, we will take care of the rest. You only need to do the confirmation.”
Hugan: “You know me best, Granoli.”
Razé gave a dry laugh as Hugan patted her shoulder.
Razé: “We really appreciate your help because no other teacher is willing to become our advisor. As I promised before, we will do everything we can on our side.”
Hugan: “Really? Well, since I’ve accepted this role, I’ll do it properly. You don’t have to force yourself. It’s the first time for us to have this event anyway. I know I’m not supposed to say this, but I think it’s only natural if there’s a mistake. You should take it easy and have fun.”
Razé: “I understand. Thank you.”
She left Hugan and then went to meet Harlens to get him to check the letter that they would send to the special guest who would give speech at the closing ceremony.
Hmm. I still have a meeting tonight.
This was the first school festival for Centrior Imperial Magic Academy. Thanks to Carna’s effort, outsiders would be able to participate in the school festival if they had an invitation, just like Battle Fiesta and winter tournaments. Razé was busy to assist on this arrangement.
Originally, security matters were handled by Harlens with helped from the Knights and the military. But he had specifically requested for her assistance, so she had to attend the meeting at Harlens’ room almost every day.
“Razé! Good timing. I was just looking for you.”
She had just finished her tasked when suddenly she heard someone calling her name. When she turned around, she saw Hugh München.[1]
Hugh was the heir of the famous München Merchant Associations. He had become the substitute for Folia in an otome game event during Ruben’s birthday party last year. Ever since Razé had gave him her invitation, he had been giving her many souvenirs.
Hugh: “Hey. Steering committee seems busy. Did you have enough rest?”
Razé: “It’s a bit busy but I think it worth it. Aren’t you busy too?”
Hugh gave her a grin and replied, “Thanks to you my family business is quite busy. I’m really grateful to the committee for planning this school festival. I only help to compile the order list. I think the staffs handling the business is busier.”
Razé: “I see.”
The München Merchant Associations was chosen as the supplier for materials needed in the school festival. Hugh was excited because of the business.
“Oh, I almost forgot. This is for you,” Hugh said cheerfully and gave a paper bag to Razé.
When she saw the wrapping, she excitedly asked him, “This!! Could it be the limited edition cheese cake?!”
Hugh: “Yeah. Didn’t you say you want to eat this before? We have some stock available so I asked my parents sent it over.”
“Wah! This is so great. Let me pay you,” Razé said excitedly as she looked up at Hugh.
Hugh: “It’s okay. I’ve been lucky so far thanks to you. If I find any other rare product, I’ll bring some for you. Please look forward to it.”
Razé: “I will be your fan forever, senpai.”
Hugh: “Thank you for your support. I’ll leave first then. Ganbatte.”
Razé: “I will!”
Considering that the 3rd Year students were busy with their post graduate plan, Carna had suggested for them to choose easier and simple class program. But the seniors didn’t want to be left out even though they ended up having pretty tight schedule.
Hugh planned to get some certifications for handling drugs and magic stones in order to expand the range of product in his family business. Lately he was very busy with his study. Razé was touched by his thoughtfulness for bringing her gifts when he was already so busy.
She peeked into the heavy paper bag and broke into a grin when she saw a big box. “I can’t wait to taste it. But what should I do? Senpai said it was for me, but I should share it with others too… Hmm… Maybe I can eat it secretly… Only with Folia and Carna…”
As she walked down the corridor while fighting her inner desires, she noticed that the students were all looking at her.
People have started to pay attention to me because of what happened during the Battle Fiesta. This is all your fault, Adis Lag Zars!!
She decided to put the blame on others. Coincidentally, at that time.
“Why are you playing hooky, scholarship student?”
Well, speak of the devil! Razé sighed inwardly.
Razé: “I’m not. I’d just finished running errands.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAdis: “Really? And how come you have a good stuff in your hand?”
She turned vigilant after seeing Adis staring at her paper bag. She slowly took a step back, keeping a distance from him. She regretted for not sending the item back to her room using teleportation earlier.
Razé: “This is a souvenir from a senpai. I’m not going to share it with you.”
Adis: “Do I look like a bad guy who would snatch other people’s stuff?”
He was astounded by her hostility. Although he did it unintentionally, Razé still felt that he had stolen the credit for her mission.
Adis: “By the way, you haven’t had lunch yet, right? I’m on a break now. Let’s go to the dining hall.”
Razé: “Huh?”
For a moment, she couldn’t understand his words. Adis saw the blank look on her face and realized that she had been too busy with work and had forgotten the time. He couldn’t help but heaved a sigh.
He had finished patrolling the campus on schedule. When he returned to the steering committee office, he saw Carna and Claude staring at documents. It was obvious that they lacked manpower and these people had been working without taking lunch break.
Carna was busy listing up cautionary points in each class’s proposal report and dealing with the guests list, while Claude was busy auditing accounts for all classes.
And Razé, who was not in the office, was busy dealing with the teachers. She went to greet the teachers who were responsible for each program to persuade them to help monitoring the preparation.
Adis knew she had been going around looking for teacher who was willing to be the advisor for the program handled by the volunteers. Unlike dealing with fellow students, it was very troublesome to deal with teachers who had a higher position inside this academy.
Carna and Claude were also involved with tasks that required them to deal with the adults. However, Carna was backed by Principal Harlens, while Claude was backed by three teachers who were in charge of auditing. Needless to say, it was Razé Granoli who had persuaded these teachers to help with these tasks.
Although she was just a normal steering committee, she had been working behind the scene with responsibilities similar to a teacher. She had been taking care of such a heavy task without showing any displeasure.
Adis: “Haaa–”
Razé: “What’s with the long sigh?”
Adis: “Don’t mind me. Let’s go.”
Razé: “Wa-”
Razé crossed the garden of youth[2], pulled by Adis.
[1] The author like to use the word 糸目(li. thread eye) to described Hugh. It refers to monolid, 99.9% closed eyes that looks like a vertical line. I omitted this because it’s very similar to slant-eyed which is an offensive slur. This feature is quite common in anime and manga. More info here (Japanese). ↩
[2] 青春の園Garden of youth: Just a fancy way of saying she walked through the crowd of students(youth) that were busy preparing the school festival. ↩
