Chapter 2099 The Footage

The man scoffed defiantly, not at all deterred by Ian's threat to hand him over to the police.

Ian took out his phone at that moment and made a call. At first, the man didn't look the least bit frightened, and he

even had his legs crossed like he was completely at ease. It was only after he heard Ian actually speaking to the

police that his expression shifted.

When Ian hung up, the man got down from the couch and spat out menacingly, "Fine, this is what it has come down

to. This isn't over, though—I'm going to keep coming back for the money, and I won't be settling for less than fifty

million."

As it turned out, the man was afraid of getting taken away by the police after all; he stormed out the door right

after he had given them his warning, and it looked like he was going to make a run for it.

Ian, Aurora, and Cindy did not chase after him. After all, they didn't think a person like that was worth their efforts

of pursuit.

When the man had gone out of their sight, Cindy locked her phone and said, "I'll send you the video later. In the

event he does try to cause a stir online, we'll just have to use the video to prove that he orchestrated everything

and blackmailed us."

Aurora was astonished, for she had no idea that Cindy had been recording while the exchange happened.

Following that, Cindy sent the footage to Ian and explained wearily to Aurora, "I didn't have a choice. I resorted to

using this method after I saw how many people were trying to give Ian bad press, but I didn't think it would actually

be of use right now."

The last time she had used a recording like this was to clarify any rumors that Ian and Sena were dating. Sena had

been caught in an awkward situation ever since Cindy came out with the video to testify that the rumors were false,

whereas the public has continued to talk about it while mocking Sena until this day.

Cindy hadn't expected that the method would come in handy again in real life.

Meanwhile, Aurora was relieved as she said, "Well, that's good. I was just thinking about how we were going to solve

the situation if this sc*mbag were to go to the press and feed them nonsense about Ian and me. He had been

calling me for the whole day, and after I refused to pick up any of his calls, he came by personally. I must have

been blind to have allowed myself to date someone like him."

Cindy reached out to pat her back while muttering in consolation, "There, there, it's all over now. We can solve this

matter on our own, so don't worry about it."

However, Aurora was still worried. "Hannah has been telling us to lie low and stay away from bad rumors, but we're

like magnets that keep drawing in scandals."

Indeed, the false rumors and bad press kept coming. Though Aurora was not in the wrong this time, she still felt

bad that Hannah would have to deal with this.

Cindy sighed and said, "What choice do we have? We can't just have this guy showing up and asking for money

from time to time. If we don't take a stand now, he's only going to see us as walking bank cards with unlimited

funds."

More importantly, judging by the man's behavior, Cindy was sure that he would come back to ask for more money

in the future if they acceded to his demands now.

He had texted Aurora earlier to tell her he was doing alright and that he would never bother her again, but Cindy

knew that that was only a front. He would come back eventually like some relentless pest.

True enough, it hadn't been that long since the text that he came back with such outrageous demands, and it only

went to show how thick-skinned he was as he continued to treat Aurora like an ATM. Not only that, the man and the

people around him would leech off her hard-earned money for the next foreseeable future if she actually caved

into his blackmailing tactics today. The right thing to do was to make someone like him pay the price for extortion,

or else he would never learn his place.

Aurora had gone a whole day without eating, and she felt rather sorry for herself.

Cindy glanced at Ian before suggesting, "She'll be staying over at our place tonight. Goodness knows if the man

would shamelessly come running back later."

Ian waited for a while before he called the police and withdrew the complaint he had made earlier. Then, the three

of them walked back to Ian's house.

No matter what happened, one still needed food to restore one's energy, and Cindy got started on dinner as soon

as they reached home. On the other hand, Ian and Aurora lounged on the couch while they talked about this

incident and how they could resolve it without causing a scene.

It wasn't long before Hannah called them and said that there was news on the internet. While the actual news

hadn't been leaked, someone claimed that they held insider information on Ian and Aurora that could destroy their

careers, and they wanted the entire internet to wait with bated breath.

Upon hearing this, Ian knew immediately what had happened. He explained the matter of the man's extortion to

Hannah before promptly sending her the footage Cindy had recorded.
