Chapter 2162 Did She Get the Message?
Lucy smiled. "You're not pitiful at all. After all, you have Ian Morgan, of all people, behind you. So, how could you be
pitiful?"
She added pointedly, "Since Gary was willing to help you, it has to mean you're worthy of his time. He rarely
approves of someone else's capabilities."
Cindy quickly responded, "Perhaps he approves of my Ian."
After Lucy heard that response, her expression improved immensely. She chuckled and said, "You should be careful.
Some of the other employees in the company have celebrity crushes too, and they might even have a crush on Ian.
Won't you be inviting unnecessary hate to yourself when you say such things?"
Cindy looked around. "You have a point. I won't do it again."
Now that Lucy was done with her initial probes, she asked if Cindy wanted to make a change of environment.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtCindy quickly shook her head. She didn't even bother clarifying what Lucy meant as she replied, "I quite like the
environment I'm in right now. I'm not that ambitious, and it takes me a long time to get used to a new environment.
Now that I've finally adjusted to working with Miss Warhol, I don't want to start anew all over again."
Lucy pouted. "Although there's a lot you can learn from Miss Warhol, she's quite busy. She even has partnerships
outside of the company. Plus, she has so many trainees on hand that I doubt she can give everyone enough
attention."
After a brief moment of hesitation, Cindy said, "Actually, even though we're called trainees, we don't need a mentor
to guide us every step of the way. After all, we're all adults who've joined the working world. We're not completely
clueless. While our current focus is simply learning from others because we only just entered the company, we still
have to rely on ourselves most of the time. We can't just expect to leech off someone else's knowledge and
expertise. That's my perspective, anyway. That's why I don't expect to learn everything from Miss Warhol. There are
things I need to pick up for myself as I slowly familiarize myself with the work."
Lucy didn't expect to hear all of this from Cindy, but since it had already been said, she couldn't press any further.
"You make a good point," she mumbled halfheartedly.
Cindy couldn't tell whether Lucy understood what she meant.
However, as they carried on with their conversation, Lucy stopped trying to test the waters with her. They
peacefully finished their lunch before bidding each other goodbye.
Once Cindy sat back down at her desk in the office, she slowly exhaled in relief. I shouldn't ever eat at the staff
cafeteria. Nothing good ever happens when I do.
Somehow, she could never have an uneventful meal at the staff cafeteria. She decided to avoid it as much as she
could.
She'd only been in her seat for a few minutes when Serena came over.
Though Serena merely stood at the entrance without entering the office, Cindy immediately figured out what
Serena wanted.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSerena turned around and left, and after giving it some thought, Cindy got up and walked over to Serena's office.
When she went in, Serena smiled at her. "What did she say to you?"
Lucy didn't say anything particularly noteworthy, so Cindy thought for a moment before giving a summary of the
conversation that took place during lunch.
"Your relationship with Ian has already been made public, but she still has her guard up against you," Serena
remarked.
Cindy felt a little helpless, too. "I don't know Mr. Frye all that well, either. Ian's acquainted with him, and we simply
had a meal together."
Serena hummed in acknowledgment. She believed Cindy. "Well, she has feelings for him, but she's too scared to
confess. Instead, she spends all her time coming up with wild ideas of her own. Now that she knows Gary brought
you in, she probably feels threatened, but at the same time, she also wants to use you to get closer to Gary."
Cindy couldn't be of any help with that, as she wasn't interested in inserting herself into these things. She didn't
stick around in Serena's office for long. After a short exchange, she went back to work.
She planned on finalizing the initial design draft this afternoon.
It was her first-ever client, so she wanted to do a good job.
