Chapter 235 It's often said that men who work seriously are the most charming, but in reality, women can be even more attractive when they are dedicated to their work.
“Hi Logan.” It was only when her phone buzzed next to her laptop that she realized Jason had stirred awake and was watching her with clear eyes.
“We just got a call from Glimmering Lake, two families are willing to cforward and testify.” “Right, I'll head over there tomorrow.” After wrapping up the call with Logan, Estrella placed her phone down and walked over to greet Jason, “Awake, huh?” She then added, “Kristin had to leave for something urgent. Do you need anything right now?” Need? Of course, he had needs, plenty of them, but she wasn’t the one to satisfy them.
Jason hoisted himself up a bit, grimacing with the effort. “Helpup, will you?” If it weren't for the pressing need to hit the bathroom, he would've been content to rest indefinitely.
As Estrella bent down to assist him, Jason, mindful of her still-healing leg, eased off the pressure he was putting on her. Estrella glanced at him, and even though he didn’t say a word, she understood everything.
Moments later, as Jason stood in front of the porcelain throne working on his belt, Estrella leaned casually against the door frame. Kristin had tasked her with keeping an eye on Jason, and Estrella feared any accidents in the bathroom would be hard to explain.
Jason’s mix of annoyance and amusement bubbled up. “Estrella, you got no shame?” She crossed her arms defensively. “You do your thing. I'll mind my business. I'm not in your way.” The pain flared up at Jason's wound as he retorted, “How can | go with you staring down?” Estrella eased away from the door frame, “Alright, alright, | won't look,” and closed the bathroom door behind him.

When Jason emerged, Estrella had set out a simple meal on the table. “Your wound is deep, so meals will be on the lighter side for a while. Bear with me.” Jason settled into the chair Estrella had pulled out for him, but immediately sat bolt upright. The wound on his back was severe, stitched up with more than twenty sutures.
Estrella ladled soup for him, her movements slowing as she saw him sit stiffly to avoid pain.
When Jason tried to lift the spoon, his hands trembled, sweat beading at the nape of his neck with each painful movement as though the freshly stitched wound threatened to split open again.
Estrella, noticing his struggle, drew her chair closer and took the spoon from his grasp. She cooled the soup with gentle breaths before bringing it to his lips, much like she would for her son, Isaac.
Jason was captivated by Estrella’s tenderness. Their eyes met, and realizing he wasn’t eating, Estrella snapped out of her daze, “Sorry | mistook you for my son. Letget you a different spoon.” Before Estrella could retract the spoon, Jason opened his mouth and drank the soup. She paused, then continued to feed him.
Ceight in the evening, the housekeeper delivered dinner and left promptly, leaving Estrella to tend to Jason alone.
Isaac sent a video call, his laughter bridging the gap between him and Jason, who couldn't help but smile brightly in response.
Past ten, Jason insisted Estrella go home, but she stayed.
After eleven, with Jason’s pain intensifying, Estrella fetched pain medication from the nurse.
In the hush of the night, neither slept.
With Jason covered in bruises, Estrella couldn’t help but recall the perilous events of last night-the moment he closed the car door, forbidding her from getting out.
The bandage on the left side of his face seemed quite large, and noticing his dry lips, Estrella got up to pour a glass of water for him. As she handed it over and took a seat on the nearby sofa, she said, “Thank you for last night.”
“It's nothing,” Jason replied nonchalantly, sipping his water. ‘| would've done the the same for anyone so don't feel burdened .Their history spahhed years, and he refused to leverage gratitude for a deeper connection. He desired Estrella, her heart and her person, but not out of indebtedness. Estrella chuckled at his words and urged him to rest. Turning off the lights, she left a dim bedside lamp on and soon fell asleep on the couch, while Jason lay awake, contemplating the years gone by.

He covered Estrella with a blanket and watched her sleep. His thoughts drifted through their shared history, the playful banter and the painful departure, with no goodbyes. He couldn't contemplate her disappointment and despair back then. It wasn’t about being with Holly. It was about...
Jason's gaze landed softly on Estrella’s left hand, which propped her cheek. The scar on her ring finger sent a sharp pang through his heart.
Back when he had designed that diamond'ring, he thought slipping it onto her finger would bind her to him for a lifetime. He never imagined she would tear it off, flesh, blood, and all.
“Stubborn as ever,” Jason gently brushed her face with his right hand and couldn’t bring himself to pull away.
He watched her for what seemed like an eternity, her peaceful face showing no signs of awakening. He leaned in a little, closer, bending down to press his lips against hers.
Despite his earlier bravado about not putting pressure on her and not wanting to make things difficult, he couldn’t help himself.
