Chapter 1096 Cto snatch the Callahan family's grandson.
Kane's mouth twitched. Was he too obvious? He shook his head solemnly, pretending to be clueless. "No, Mrs. Callahan. Mr.
Callahan is so busy everyday. How would he find the tto assignsuch a boring task?" Mavis narrowed her eyes and stared at him skeptically.
Umm...
He seemed like an idiot now; this was not going well.
"Mrs. Callahan, please don't misunderstand me," Kane said with a sigh. "Il just had sthoughts today after seeing how much Mr.
Callahan has sacrificed for Alistair over the years and couldn't help but speak up." Mavis remained calm and unimpressed by his words. "I won't deny that Anthony has done sgood things as a father," she said coolly, "but he wasn't a good husband to me." "Are you still hung up on what happened between Mr. Callahan and Jaqueline?" Kane asked tentatively.
"I think you should hear Mr. Callahan's explanation before jumping to conclusions," he added quickly.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtKane wasn't involved in what happened when Jaqueline entered the Callahan Group building; Zack probably knew more about it than him.
But Mavis lowered her eyelashes and asked doubtfully, "Do you really think that someone like him will explain himself?" Kane fell silent because it was highly unlikely that Anthony would do so - whether it was something bad or good that he did - without being prompted first.
Mavis didn't expect Kane to say. "It doesn't matter anymore since there are thousands of other women like Jaqueline out there." Anthony's heart wasn't with her no matter what she did or said; it didn't matter how hard she tried.
As they talked, they arrived at the Callahan Residence where Saul greeted them outside upon receiving prior notice from the hospital about Mavis' return home.
"Good afternoon Mrs. Callahan," Saul greeted her respectfully while bowing repeatedly before ushering her inside.
"You didn't have to call this way back here yourself since we could have sent food over through our maid service instead of making you run back and forth." She got off the car feeling unhappy and muttering under breaths, "Life is tough when Anthony wants to mess with me." Saul's face froze momentarily as if unsure how best respond before finally saying, "Paloma instructed us not rush anything on Mr.
Callahan's end, so why don't you take lunch first then deliver later? Oh yes! And | almost forgot- Alistair is back hfor lunch too." Mavis finally had a different expression on her face. "Why is Alistair at home? It's not the weekend. He should be in kindergarten." "Mr. Callahan said you haven't seen Alistair in a few days and must miss him, so he sent the bodyguard to pick up Alistair from kindergarten. In the afternoon, you can go to the hospital with Alistair to take care of Mr. Callahan." "He planned it well." With Alistair around, Mavis was more than happy to stay for lunch.
"Mommy!" Just as they passed through Callahan Residence's front yard garden and hadn't entered the villa hall yet, Alistair's sweet and tender voice cfirst.
Then Mavis saw Alistair running towards her with short legs flapping and his little hands open, smiling broadly.
Her heart instantly softened as she waited for the little one while being tackled into her arms. His little arms tightly wrapped around her neck.
She lifted Alistair's small butt and held him close. "Have you been listening to your great-grandmother these past few days?" Alistair rubbed his face against Mavis' neck softly. "Yes! I'm very good!" She giggled at how cute he was acting.
Paloma sat in a wheelchair pushed by Saul until they were near mother-and-son duo.
Seeing this rare moment of warmth made Paloma feel relieved. "Okay, Alistair, you can hug later. You're getting heavier now. Don't tire out Mavis," she said kindly.
Alistair understood well enough that he got down from Mavis' embrace then took hold of her hand, leading them both towards dining room.
Paloma didn't move, looked at the backs of the mother and son, sighed silently, and called Kane to ask about Anthony's injuries in the car accident.
For the lunch, only three people involved.
Timothy had been away from Suham recently, and went to the neighbor city to handle his car dealership business.
Rebecca hadn't cback for several months, and went abroad for further study.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmDuring lunchtime, Paloma changed from being easygoing on regular days. She ate silently with a serious expression on her face.
Not knowing what she was thinking about, Mavis focused all attention on Alistair who kept eating while occasionally feeding himself or asking for more food. Meanwhile, she didn't notice any changes in Paloma's facial expressions.
It wasn't until after lunch that Paloma looked lovingly at Alistair asking, "My Alistair baby, is your tummy full now?" Alistair smiled widely, "Yes, I'm full!" "Then go play piano for a while. | have something private | want to talk about with Mavis." Alistair blinked in confusion, suddenly remembering the song he had learned for his mother last time. He immediately cheered and jumped up to familiarize himself with it.
As soon as Alistair left, Paloma turned her gaze towards Mavis. "Mavis, please takeupstairs to the study." "Okay." Mavis didn't think much of it and agreed, even though Anthony was still waiting for her to bring him food on an empty stomach.
She followed Paloma's instructions and locked the study door behind them.
This was Anthony's office space and relatively soundproof.
"Sit down." There were only two people in the study, but Mavis had always treated Paloma like family and didn't bother with formalities. She nodded politely before sitting down on the sofa.
Paloma furrowed her brow slightly but remained serious as she spoke, "I heard that you've had a man taking care of you while you were abroad these past five years - someone who is related to you according to Callahan Group's official website. Is that true?" Mavis didn't hide anything from her. "Moore did take care oflike a brother would, but we're not related by blood or anything like that. We're just friends." Paloma looked troubled as she frowned, "Between a man and a woman, there can never be just friendship. If he hasn't dated anyone else all this twhile staying by your side through thick and thin, then it's obvious he has feelings for you." Mavis didn't argue back because she knew Moore did have feelings for her even though she didn't reciprocate them.
"So," continued Paloma, "you insist on divorcing Anthony so that you can be with this man?" "No," replied Mavis firmly. "I'm divorcing Anthony because I've completely given up on him. Even if | never marry again in my life, | don't want... to stay with him anymore." After all, this was Anthony's grandmother she was talking with so Mavis spoke frankly but also felt somewhat apprehensive about whether or not there would be any resentment from her.
Paloma sighed understandingly, "Your divorce has becnational news now so it will be difficult to avoid attention no matter what happens next. However, since Anthony has been involved in a car accident now, what are your plans?" "I will take care of his recovery, fulfilling my duties as his wife until the end. However, | hope to take care of him and get a divorce at the stime. | will have my lawyer draft a divorce agreement as soon as possible, with all property going to him andonly keeping Alistair." "But how can that be?" Paloma had always been sympathetic towards her but not opposed to her decision. However, upon hearing this statement, her expression instantly becanxious.
"Alistair is the eldest grandson written into the Callahan family tree. His custody must remain within the Callahan family and he is obedient and well-behaved. His aunts and uncles all love him..." Her words trailed off as she suddenly realized something.
"Mavis, are you here just to take Alistair away from us?"
