#55 “I’m Not the One You should Be Apologizing to”
Alexander was silent, waiting for Megan to make her proposal, but she didn’t say a word either. “Speak up, I don’t have all day,”
Alexander urged impatiently.
“I don’t like the way our conversation went, Alex. I offer to apologize to you personally. After all, we haven’t seen each other in
three years,” Megan finally spoke, her tone almost hesitant.
Alexander had terminated his relationship with Megan shortly before he got married, not wanting to appear as a womanizer.
Their relationship had never been particularly serious, mostly centered around s3x with no emotional attachments.
“I’m not the one you should be apologizing to, Megan,” Alexander interjected firmly. Megan felt a growing frustration, realizing
that her suspicions about Sophia’s involvement were likely correct. She forced herself to sound cheerful.
“Of course, invite Sophia too; I want to clear the air between all of us. But you should know, Alex, my actions were purely
business-driven. I was just looking out for my own interests,” Megan explained.
Alexander contemplated whether he could convince Sophia to attend this meeting, considering their last disastrous interaction.
Megan’s nonchalant attitude about the situation grated on him, but he knew that addressing this issue face-to-face was likely the
best course of action.
“Please Alex, you know I’m not a bad person. However, my business trips over these three years have taught me one thing, and
that is to correct my mistakes.”
“Fine,” he conceded with a sigh, sensing that he might come to regret this decision.
“Excellent, I’ll send you the meeting details later,” Megan chirped with excitement. As Alexander hung up the phone, he couldn’t
help but ponder the intriguing prospect of having his ex-girlfriend and ex-wife in the same room. It had all the makings of a
The meeting took place at the VIP bar on the top floor of a luxurious hotel, a place frequented by Alexander. As Megan arrived,
she scanned the area but only found Alexander waiting at their designated spot. She couldn’t hide her curiosity.
“Where’s Sophia?” Megan inquired, her voice tinged with a hint of expectation. Alexander, however, didn’t look pleased as he
responded, “She had some prior commitments, couldn’t make it.’.
In truth, Alexander had been trying to reach Sophia on his phone, but all his attempts had been met with silence. He was
growing increasingly irritated and couldn’t shake the suspicion that Sophia had intentionally blocked his calls and messages.
“Too bad, I couldn’t wait to meet her. She turns out to be a wonder woman,” Megan said. Alexander raised an eyebrow in mild
confusion, uncertain about Megan’s intentions with this remark.
“Plays like a virtuoso, never loses a court case, looks like a goddess. I researched her, but when you work with journalists, you
become one,” Megan continued, laughing lightly.
“That’s right,” Alexander replied with a flat tone, not giving away much of his thoughts. Politely, he pulled out Megan’s chair and
gestured for her to sit at the table. It didn’t escape his notice that Megan seemed to have set up this meeting with more personal
intentions than business. Her sparkling white dress with a revealing leg slit hinted at her intentions.
Megan then attempted to engage in conversation. “So tell me about yourself, Alex. I see you’re divorced.”
His response was brisk and to the point. “Yes, but besides that not much has changed.”
Megan frowned, her irritation becoming more evident. Alexander’s apparent disinterest bothered her, and it was clear he didn’t
want to be there. She tried to shift the conversation towards business, mentioning the success of his company.
“That is not true, your company is at the top. When I left, you were just starting to grow it.”
“Well, yes, I’ve always been good at my work.” again he answered languidly. Megan’s frustration grew as Alexander continued to
deflect her questions and maintain his cold demeanor. She couldn’t understand why he was so distant from her when they used
to have a much more intimate relationship. This newfound restraint puzzled her.
know, Alex, it’s been a long time since we’ve been together. I thought maybe we could rekindle some of that old flame.”
Alexander, however, remained unmoved by her advances. “Megan, we both know that’s not why we’re here.”
“But I have already apologized to you, I propose to do so in another form as well.”
“I have no intention of playing with you. It’s a business meeting and I prefer not to take any risks and turn it into something else”
he cut her off.
Megan leaned in even closer, her lips almost brushing against his ear as she whispered, “You used to love the thrill of taking
risks, Alex. Remember how it felt?”
Alexander, though tempted by her proximity, remained stoic. “Megan, we’re not here to reminisce about the past.”
She pulled away slightly, a sultry smile playing on her lips. “Oh, come on, Alex. A little nostalgia never hurt anyone. Besides, it
might be fun.”
His restraint held firm. “I’ve moved on from that phase of my life.”
Megan sighed in frustration, realizing that her attempts to rekindle their romantic past were falling flat. She decided to change the
subject to something else that interested her.
“I couldn’t find you after my return, it wasn’t until the scandal with Emily that I came across you,” Megan admitted. “Why did you
two stop working together?”
“I think that as the person who orchestrated the scandal, you shouldn’t be asking me that question. She crossed the line.”
“Maybe, but your families have been close for years,” Megan countered. “I didn’t expect that something could tear you two
apart.”
“I had no idea what hideous deals they were involved in,” Alexander reiterated. Megan couldn’t help but suspect that Sophia
Johnson played a significant role in this change. She decided to confront him directly.
“They definitely threw that lawyer of yours under the rails. Is that what pissed you off so much?” she prodded. Alexander
responded tersely, ” Generally.”
Growing increasingly impatient, Megan decided to cut to the chase. She leaned in, her voice low and intent,” Okay, I’ll ask
directly. What is your relationship with Sophia Johnson? I just can’t recognize you.”
Alexander’s jaw clenched, and he finally met Megan’s gaze. He wondered if he wanted to tell her the truth.
