#87 “Alright, Sophia, we will do this together.”
As Sophia’s consciousness waned and she teetered on the brink of oblivion, her last coherent thought was a desperate
realization: someone was dragging her away. The world became a dizzying blur, her senses numbing as she surrendered to the
encroaching darkness.
When Sophia finally regained consciousness, she found herself in an unfamiliar room within the same dilapidated apartment.
The cold touch of a gun gripped tightly in her hand was an immediate, chilling reminder of her precarious situation. Her eyes
darted around the room, trying to piece together the disconcerting puzzle that had become her reality.
On the creaking, decrepit bed lay a lifeless body, the pallor of death starkly contrasting with the tattered sheets and peeling
wallpaper. A single gunshot wound to the chest marked the gruesome end that had befallen the unfortunate soul. Sophia’s
analytical mind immediately went into overdrive.
The cold, unforgiving grip of the gun remained steadfast in her hand, its presence unsettling, as if daring her to make a move.
Sophia’s training and instincts compelled her to secure the weapon, but the implications of the situation were evident. She was
now holding a murder weapon, trapped in a room with a corpse.
Her remarkable composure, which had served her well in past situations, once again emerged to the forefront. Panic and fear
tried to claw their way into her psyche, but Sophia was resolute in her determination to confront this nightmarish ordeal with a
clear mind. She knew that in the midst of the darkness and danger, her rational and strategic thinking was her most potent ally.
Intriguingly, the odds were stacked against her. She recognized that her every action could be scrutinized and twisted against
her. She needed to regain control of the situation. The inescapable conclusion was that she had been lured into a sinister trap,
one that aimed to cast her as the perpetrator of a heinous crime, with no clear escape in sight.
With her heart beating steadily, Sophia began to survey the room for any clues or hidden mechanisms that might provide her
with an opportunity to expose the truth. Every detail, every aspect of the scene, carried weight and significance. She had to
outmaneuver her unseen adversary, to unravel the intricate web of deceit that had been spun around her.
The presence of the dead body was not coincidental. It was a message, a macabre narrative, aimed at her very psyche. As her
eyes darted across the room, Sophia’s analytical prowess was focused on deciphering the grim tale that had been set in motion.
Yet, beneath the surface of her calm exterior, an unsettling question loomed – just how far would her adversary go to manipulate
and destroy her life? The shadows of London concealed the answers, and she was determined to unearth the chilling truth
before it was too late.
Sophia saw her bag on the floor and immediately picked it up. She went fumbling for her phone, she had to call for help. As she
searched she tried not to look at the corpse. Her heart raced as she heard footsteps approaching.
“Shit,” she cursed softly.
She grabbed the gun and threw her bag on the ground. As Sophia crouched behind the door, her hand firmly grasping the gun,
her senses heightened, and her heart raced.
The footsteps outside grew louder, drawing nearer to the room where she was ensnared in this grim tableau. The anticipation
and anxiety weighed heavily upon her.
As the figure rounded the corner and came into view, Sophia’s voice sliced through the tense silence, her command ringing clear
and unwavering. “Raise your hands and turn around slowly,” she demanded, her finger poised on the trigger.
When the stranger finally obeyed and turned around, Sophia’s unyielding stance wavered, replaced by shock and disbelief. The
face before her was not that of her assailant but of Alexander, her eyes meeting his in mutual astonishment. However, Sophia
didn’t lower the weapon just yet, her guard remaining firmly in place.
Alexander’s voice broke the silence, concern, and confusion present in his tone as he attempted to explain his presence.
“Sophia, what the hell...”
Sophia, her finger still resting on the trigger, was quick to interrupt. “What are you doing here?”
His hands remained raised as he attempted to convey his intentions. ” I’ve been looking for you and... what’s going on?”
Sophia didn’t lower her guard, continuing to press for answers. “Why are you in London, Alexander? Why did you look for me?”
Alexander, clearly sensing the urgency in her demeanor, offered his side of the story. “I called you and you didn’t answer me...
Put that weapon away, Sophia, and tell me what’s going on.”
With a resigned sigh, Sophia lowered the gun, though she didn’t release her grip on it. Alexander cautiously lowered his hands,
maintaining eye contact.
“Tell me first what you’re doing here,” she insisted, her suspicions still simmering beneath the surface. Sophia didn’t relinquish
the weapon, even as it was no longer pointed at Alexander.
“I came to London and wanted to contact you if you needed help with anything, but you didn’t answer me for a very long time. I
got worried and decided something was wrong and went looking for you,” he says quickly. “Apparently I was right.”
As they continued to grapple with the shock of their encounter, Sophia probed further. “How did you find me?”
Alexander, eager to provide clarity, responded with a note of worry in his voice. “I had my people search for you. I was worried
“Okay,” Sophia says and lets her body relax. Her pulse finally slowed down, her hand trembling slightly as she released her grip.
She leaned against the wall, her body weary and tense from the ordeal.
Alexander, his eyes fixed on her, wasted no time in questioning her. ” Alright, Sophia. Start from the beginning. Why were you
holding that gun? What brought you to this abandoned apartment?”
Sophia attempted to answer his questions but found herself struggling to articulate the sequence of events. Her voice trembled
slightly as she spoke. “I... I received a message from a stranger about my grandfather, Christopher Johnson. He led me here
and told me there was a message. I came to find out what it was.”
As Alexander closed the distance between them, he followed Sophia’s gaze, and his eyes widened with disbelief upon spotting
the lifeless body behind her.
He turned back to Sophia, his voice taut with shock. “Sophia, tell me you had nothing to do with this. What happened here? Who
is that person?”
Sophia’s eyes met his, the sincerity in her gaze unmistakable. “I swear, Alexander, I had no part in this. I don’t know who this is
or how they died.”
Alexander’s eyes locked onto hers as he stood silently, his mind processing the situation. He observed the truth etched in
Sophia’s earnest expression.
“I have nothing to do with his death,” Sophia raises her voice and waves her hands. Nodding to her words, he gestured discreetly
toward the gun she held. He mumbled under his breath, “I believe you, Sophia, but please, be mindful of that gun.”
Sophia’s voice broke the tense silence. ” I think someone is trying to frame me for murder, but I don’t know why.”.
As Alexander absorbed her words, he began pacing the room thoughtfully. After a moment, he turned to her, a resolute look in
his eyes. “Sophia, you don’t have to face this alone. Let me handle this, and you can get out of here safely.”
But Sophia wasn’t willing to back down. She met his gaze. “I appreciate your concern, Alexander, but this is my predicament,
and I intend to manage it on my own. I’m not leaving.”
Sophia’s voice was unwavering, her determination to handle the situation on her own shining through. She had always been a
self-reliant individual, and the gravity of the circumstances only seemed to emphasize her resolve.
Alexander paused in his pacing, his eyes locked onto hers. He recognized the strength in her words and the steely determination
that emanated from her. It was a defining moment in their relationship, a moment that revealed Sophia’s fierce independence
and her trust in her abilities.
Finally, he sighed, acknowledging her wishes. “Alright, Sophia, we will do this together. I know you can manage.”
As Sophia and Alexander stood in the dilapidated room a sudden wail of police sirens pierced the air, rapidly approaching from
outside. The blaring sound filled the room. Their heads turned toward the window, eyes widening as the cacophonous sirens
grew louder.
“Fuck!” cursed Alexander. The two looked at each other, realizing that they had to come up with something fast.
