Chapter 89
“Where have you been?” Hazel asked, staring at the man in front of her. Nathan chuckled lightly. After weeks of absence, Nathan
had suddenly returned, immediately finding his way to the hospital.
“I had to go clear my head,” he answered. A couple of days ago was the death anniversary of his mate and pup. Needing space
and answers, he had left. Hazel looked at him thoughtfully. He was smiling, but his eyes looked rather sad.
“I’m sorry I vanished completely; a lot was going on,” he admitted with a sigh. “Have you been okay?” Hazel asked. Nathan only
stared at her for a while, giving her a sad smile.
The past few weeks had been quite hectic for him. He gave a small shrug. Hazel studied the man in front of her silently; it was
clear he was hiding and keeping things to himself. He looked like he hadn’t had a decent sleep in a long while. But she decided
not to pry, filling him instead with details of things that had happened during his absence.
“I’m sorry, Hazel. I tried to find Dr. Gomez, but I failed. How’s she now?” he asked. Since he got there, Daisy and Liam weren’t at
the ward; he had met only Hazel. Hazel smiled.
“We found him, or rather, he found us,” Hazel beamed with a smile at him. She then went on narrating how Dr. Gomez walked
into the hospital himself one morning. Although she left out many details of who Ethan was and her relationship with him, she
described him as her boss. She also filled him in on how they had gotten such a luxurious-looking hospital ward. Nathan smiled,
watching how Hazel’s eyes beamed as she narrated all that had happened so far.
Liam burst into the ward a while later, spotting Nathan and going completely wild as he jumped into his arms. The energetic little
boy started chattering off excitedly. Meanwhile, Hazel stepped out of the ward, unintentionally colliding with Ethan, who was on
the verge of entering.
“Ethan?” she called in surprise, her smile fading. Questions filled her mind – why was he here? Ethan proceeded into the room,
carrying treats in his arms. Nathan and Liam, engrossed in their own world, remained oblivious to his entrance.
“Hi Ethan!” Liam greeted with a smile, hanging upside down from
Nathan’s arm when he finally noticed him. Ethan’s small smile faded, transforming into a frown. He cast a questioning gaze
toward Hazel.
“Ethan, this is Nathan. Nathan, Ethan,” Hazel introduced the two men. Nathan nodded with a small acknowledgment, while
“Daisy was moved to the Echocardiography for an ultrasound. We were just heading there right now,” Hazel explained
awkwardly, the atmosphere tensing with Ethan’s presence. He was practically glaring at Nathan. Ethan’s unexpected visit had
caught everyone off guard.
“I haven’t seen her in a while. How is she?” Ethan asked, finally tearing his gaze away from Nathan. An undercurrent of irritation
surged within Ethan as he observed the other man, deciding in that moment that he didn’t like this Nathan.
Hazel gave a small shrug. “She’s okay, I guess,” she stated. “Nathan, this is the man I told you; he was able to find Dr. Gomez
for us,” Hazel explained to Nathan, throwing a smile in Nathan’s direction. Ethan observed her features, the way she smiled at
the other man and his brows furrowed slightly. Why was she smiling at him like that? And she had introduced him as “that man,”
not as her ex-husband or anyone she had actually known but he was addressed like some random man. Seeing Hazel that close
with the man made him feel a surge of irritation.
“Oh, really,” Nathan asked lightly. “Thank you,” he added. “Hazel told me all about what you did,” Nathan continued.
“I should go see to Daisy now,” Hazel said, heading out the door. “I’ll come with you,” Liam offered, following his mother. “It’s
amazing you were able to bring Dr. Gomez out of retirement, thank you,” Nathan said sincerely.
He had tried on his part but wasn’t able to, finding Dr Gomez alone was even so difficult, so he was really impressed by Ethan.
Hazel was yet to fill him in that Ethan was actually her ex-husband, so to him, Ethan was just a nice superior of Hazel.
“I didn’t do it for you,” Ethan stated icily. Why would you thank me? Who is this man anyway? Ethan wondered, irritated.
Nathan looked taken aback by Ethan’s coldness. Ethan’s mood to visit had been ruined suddenly from watching Hazel and this
man’s interaction. Even Liam seemed to love him and was attached to him a lot. Ethan dropped off the things he came with, then
left immediately.
Hazel returned to the room a moment later, she looked around the room seeing on Nathan standing there and asked, “Where’s
Ethan?” Nathan
explained casually, “He just left.”
“Who is he?” Nathan inquired. To which Hazel replied, “The CEO of Tesco.” .
Nathan persisted, “No Hazel... Who is he? “I mean, getting Dr. Gomez for you and all of that,” Nathan stated. He had observed
Ethan’s weird manner, the way he had looked at and spoken to him, like he seriously disliked him, then the fond way he looked
at Liam. He was clearly attached to the kids from what he had heard, it was clear the man cared.
“You two have history, don’t you?” Nathan probed further. “Is he, by chance, the father of your twins?”
Hazel took a deep breath, sitting down. “Was it that obvious?” she asked, a mix of emotions playing on her face.
“Yeah,” Nathan replied. “I mean, from what you told me, he really cares about Daisy and Liam. Such attraction and love.”
Also, the way he looks at you... he added inwardly. Hazel sighed once
more.
“He doesn’t know they’re his?” Nathan questioned. Hazel nodded.
“Wow,” Nathan said. “Is he dumb or something?” He asked incredulously.
“I mean, it’s so crystal clear, and he can’t even figure that out? And you said he’s an Alpha?” Nathan continued, his tone laced
with disbelief. “How’d he manage to run his pack and business all this while?” he asked.
“Enough,” Hazel stopped him, releasing an exhausted sigh.
“I underwent some tests before I left; I and my maid faked the results. He had no idea I was pregnant when I left so far as he’s
concerned, they can’t be his. Also, I had a late delivery, remember?” She asked.
“Yes. You’re right,” Nathan replied with a sigh. All of those would mix up whatever it was he felt.
“Still, he must be confused, feeling all kinds of emotions.” Nathan mused thoughtfully.
“Your kids are lovely, and he must have fallen for them completely without knowing why. All of those pieces of evidence just

work in your favor, don’t they?” Nathan asked with a chuckle. Hazel nodded, laughing as well.
Nathan stood from a distance, observing Jasmine engrossed in her work. After Leaving the hospital, he headed to his company.
Jasmine had worked hard during the time he was gone, and he felt a pang of guilt. He hadn’t been completely honest with her; to
her, he was some kind of helper and friend, but in reality, he had only been using her, keeping her around to get the information
he desperately needed.
“When would you remember? When?” He mused sadly his gaze fixed on her. Jasmine looked up, meeting his eyes. She geniue
and wide smile broke out across her face, exited her seat, and ran up to him.
“Nathan!” She squealed. “Where have you been? I’ve called, I’ve texted... I was so worried something had happened to you,”
she stated, a small frown on her face. “I thought at some point that you gave up on
everything.” Knowing it was close to the anniversary of his wife’s passing, it had crossed her mind that Nathan might have taken
drastic measures. She was relieved he was okay.
In reality, he had gone to investigate the place where his wife died. Frustration was eating at him. Till date, they hadn’t found the
perpetrators, and there was no clue how to. The only witness that day was Jasmine, and she had lost almost all memories of
what she had witnessed.
