Rachel pushed David away and walked out of the elevator with a calm expression.

Unfortunately, her legs went limp and she staggered. Fortunately, David reacted quickly and hooked his arm around

her waist.

The warmth of the man’s palm landed on her waist, making her feel as if she had been burned.

Rachel looked at him.

David’s eyes were dark and deep, immersed in a desire that made one’s heart skip a beat. He leaned in and said in

a low and cold voice beside Rachel’s ear, “Why did you kiss me just now?”

Rachel choked and glared at him. “Forget it if you don’t know.”

With that, she shook off his hand and walked straight to the car.

The corners of David’s lips curled into a smile. He quickly chased after her and held her hand. “I really don’t know.

Tell me about it.”

“I have nothing to tell you.” Rachel’s cheeks were still slightly flushed.

She thought, “How could I say such a thing?

“I can’t possibly say that everything you did tonight touched me and I took the initiative to kiss you because I didn’t

know how to express my gratitude, can I?”

She could not bear to say such words.

Moreover, her pride did not allow her to say something like that.

After returning to Sandalwood Hills, Rachel got out of the car first.

At this moment, Chris walked over from the side. “Miss Grey, this is what you left in the car.”

It was the box that Ronnie had given her before.

with me first before looking at the things inside?”

Rachel hesitated for a moment before nodding.

The two of them sat at the dining table. Rachel drank the soup in her bowl and realized that David did not eat

much. Instead, she was the one who ate most of the food even though she said she didn’t want supper.

“Why have you stopped eating?” Rachel looked at him.

“Didn’t he say that he wanted to eat supper?” she thought.

David looked at her and smiled faintly. “I’m fine. Eat more.”

Rachel felt suspicious.

Why did she have to eat more?

She could not help but glance at David. Coincidentally, she saw the man’s

faint smile.

His gaze was like a jackal staring at a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, making Rachel’s heart skip a beat. Then, she

had a strange feeling.

After eating, Rachel sat cross-legged on the sofa in the living room. There were snacks on the table that aided

digestion.

“Did you open it and see what’s inside?” Rachel rubbed the box. There were exquisite patterns carved on it. She

liked it quite a bit.

David smiled and said, “I have no reason to open something meant for you.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Rachel lifted the lock and opened the box.

What followed was the smell of ebony agarwood.

The thing in the box was covered by a red cloth, but from its shape, it looked like a hairpin or something similar.

She lifted the cloth. As expected.

The phoenix on the royal hairpin was lifelike. Its feathers were decorated with various colors. It looked as

magnificent as a hairpin used by an

ancient empress.

“This hairpin…” Rachel frowned slightly, her eyes filled with contemplation.

David looked at the dark expression on Rachel’s face and asked, “What did you see?”

“This hairpin has been made with the same purpose as the queen’s crown that was auctioned off previously. It is a

fake from a similar dynasty. Judging from how it was produced, this hairpin should belong in a set with the queen’s

crown.”

In other words, they should have come from the same person and from the same place.

“So you suspect that the queen’s crown came from Aureliana?” David said Rachel’s guess aloud.

She had a feeling that Mr. Davies did not give her this hairpin as a gift.
