Chapter 50
50 Unraveling Misconceptions
The aftermath of the disastrous charity gala left Nathan’s father in a state of shock. The rapid decline of
their business ventures, both domestic and international, had taken a heavy toll on him. He felt the
foundation of his life’s work crumbling beneath him.
Desperate for assistance, Nathan sought out Alex, hoping his brother could offer smuch-needed
advice or intervention. But Alex, swamped with his own responsibilities, was in no mood to cater to
Nathan’s pleas.
“Deal with your own mess,” Alex said, his tone firm and unsympathetic. “Your actions at the gala have

Nathan, feeling cornered and misunderstood, lashed out. “But you never objected when I mistreated
Emma. You even seemed to agree with it!”
Alex, taken aback, paused to reflect. It was true; he had never openly condemned Nathan’s behavior
towards Emma. Perhaps his silence had been misconstrued as approval.
Nathan pressed on, his frustration evident. “You made it clear she was nothing to you. If you had
shown any regard for her, no one would have dared disrespect her.”
Alex’s expression darkened as he realized the impact of his indifference. His passive stance might
have inadvertently encouraged others’ poor treatment of Emma. The thought weighed heavily on him, a
realization that he might have been a catalyst for her suffering.
As Nathan watched Alex’s demeanor change, he wondered if he had overstepped. “Look, you didn’t
care about her then. Why worry about it now?”
Alex, however, couldn’t shake off the troubling thoughts. “Emma was my wife. Regardless of my
feelings, I had a responsibility towards her.”
Nathan was left speechless. This newfound sense of duty was alien to the Alex he knew.
Alex, unable to face the consequences of his actions, sought refuge in a nearby bar. His mind churned
with questions and regrets.
As he sat there, lost in thought, a familiar figure caught his eye – Emma. Or was it just his imagination?

The figure next to him tensed, but didn’t respond. Alex’s heart raced, but he held back, his hand
stopping mid-air.
Bella, having tracked down Alex, was stunned to see him in this state. How could he still be affected by
Emma? She had always believed Alex shared her disdain for his ex-wife.
Gathering her emotions, Bella decided to take charge. She was the one by Alex’s side now, not Emma.
She would not let Emma’s shadow loom over them any longer.
Helping Alex to a hotel room, Bella pondered her next move. She was determined to secure her place

in Alex’s life, convinced of Emma’s inadequacy as a wife.
The next morning, Alex woke up with a pounding headache, the events of the night a blur. To his
surprise, he found Bella asleep beside him. Confusion and guilt swirled within him. What had he done?
And why did Emma’s image still haunt him?
