Caroline waited in her room for a long time, but Kirk didn’t come and try to explain himself. She felt

you.”

Charles gave a bitter laugh. “He’s not here.”

Only then did Caroline open the bedroom door. She found the living room empty of Kirk’s

presence

She felt disappointed for a moment. Her heart felt like it had been twisted. Strangely, It hurt a lot.

Caroline walked to the front door and opened it. Charles stood outside with some takeout.

“Madam, Mr. Morrison asked me to bring you dinner.” Charles handed the food to Caroline.

The bag of food was warm in Caroline’s hands. “Where is he?”

Charles answered honestly, “I don’t know.”

Caroline’s lips thinned. “Thank you. Would you like to come in and eat too?”

Charles said, “There’s no need, but thank you. If there’s nothing else, I’ll leave now.”

Caroline watched Charles leave. Then, she took the food to the coffee table.

It was a fruit salad and a bowl of beef stew.

Caroline’s eyes stung. She clicked on WhatsApp and opened Kirk’s chat. She wanted to say something

to him, but she didn’t know what.

After a moment, she closed the chat.

At the Mendeleys‘ residence, Adam and Lia were overjoyed at Kirk’s sudden visit.

Lia pulled Kirk aside and said, “It’s great that you’re here, Kirk. Avery has been blacklisted by the entire

industry. She’s been so down for the past few days. She can’t do anything but stand by and watch.”

She continued, “Nothing we say helps. But Avery has always listened to you. As long as you talk to her,

she’ll become motivated again.”

Kirk’s expression turned dull. “Where is she?”

“In the upstairs bedroom. I’ll go and call her.”

“There’s no need for that. I’ll go up.”
