Chapter 1144 Sweat started to bead on Quincy's forehead, and he silently cursed himself for his foolishness.
They continued running, but Lydia was quickly running out of steam. Despite pushing herself, her heavy breathing made it clear she couldn't keep up much longer.
"Quincy, go on without me. Don't worry about me," she panted.

Lydia froze for a moment, shaking her head. "N-no, I'm too heavy." "Con, if we waste any more time, they'll catch us," he urged.
Realizing the urgency, Lydia didn't argue further. She wrapped her arms around Quincy's neck. "Am I too heavy?" she asked, feeling guilty for slowing them down and wishing she had trained more.
Quincy shifted her on his back with ease. "You're light as a feather. No problem at all," he said, trying to comfort her.
Lydia couldn't help but laugh at the exaggeration.
Quincy glanced at her with a playful smirk. "You know, if we die together like this, does it count as a tragic romance?" The question caught them both off guard, and after a moment of silence, Quincy cleared his throat, deciding to drop the subject.
Then, Lydia's soft voice broke the silence, "It wouldn't be so bad, actually." Quincy chuckled, "Don't worry. We're not dying today." Just as he said that, Quincy abruptly stopped, causing sloose rocks to tumble off the cliff's edge. They had reached a dead end. Behind them, the pursuers were closing in, and ahead was a steep drop. The cliff didn't look impossibly high, and there was a chance they could survive the jump. But if they were caught, who knew what would happen? Quincy looked up, his voice firm, "Lydia, are you scared?" Lydia understood immediately. "No, I'm not," she replied, her voice steady.
Without another word, Quincy leaped off the cliff, holding Lydia tight. The pursuers skidded to a stop at the edge, stunned.

"They jumped off a cliff. If they're not dead, they're at least crippled. Let's just report it as is," another suggested.
Satisfied with that, the group turned back, deciding the pay wasn't worth the risk.
Down below, Quincy had shielded Lydia as they tumbled down. Lydia had only suffered minor injuries, but Quincy wasn't as lucky. Lydia shook herself out of the daze and tried to rouse Quincy, her voice frantic, "Quincy, wake up! Are you okay?" After a moment, Quincy slowly opened his eyes, wincing at the from his multiple cuts and bruises. He coughed and managed to say, "Stop shouting, I'm alive." Relief washed over Lydia, and she couldn't hold back her tears. She hugged Quincy tightly. "Thank God you're okay. I was so scared." "Hey, I'm too tough to die that easily," Quincy joked, though he couldn't hide how weak he felt as he tried to stand, only to find his strength failing him. "I'll help you," Lydia said, quickly stepping in to support him.
Together, they started walking
