Nina stood at the doorway. She had hired someone to follow Miranda, waiting for this moment.

There was no way Miranda would have intentionally made herself deaf. Someone must be helping her. Coming to this place was highly suspicious, and Nina hoped to find sclues. When the door opened, she saw the tall figure before her. "It's you!" Wilfred responded, "What a coincidence." Nina looked at the man dressed as a doctor. It all made sense now. She glanced inside, searching for any sign of Miranda. The person following Miranda said she had entered and never left. "Are you a doctor?" Nina asked.

Wilfred answered, "Yes." Nina probed, "I think a friend of mine chere..." "Miranda?" he interrupted.

Nina looked up at him. He did not seem to be hiding anything, and he seemed to know exactly what she wanted to ask. It felt almost too easy.

"She really chere?" Nina asked.

"I have the answers you're looking for," Wilfred said directly. "If you want to know, cin." He left the door open and walked inside alone. Nina hesitated for a moment but then mustered her courage and followed him in.

It was a large space. This entire floor was his. The kitchen, bedroom, and office were all in one open area. She had never seen a setup like this before. The room was filled with various items-a bed, surgical tools, and medical supplies. He was indeed a doctor.

"Sit!" Wilfred walked silently, then suddenly coming up and speaking beside Nina. This startled her slightly.

"I only have coffee," he said, placing a cup on the table next to Nina.

She eyed his pale face warily but thanked him, "Thank you." She sat down, holding the coffee cup in both hands. The warmth from the cup eased the chill inside her. She studied Wilfred's face.

Wilfred sat in his office chair. "What do you want to ask?" Nina began, "Have we met before?" Wilfred's brown eyes fixated on her and his fingers twirled the green beads faster. The sound of the beads clinking drew Nina's attention, making her feel even colder.

Instinctively, she shrank back.

Wilfred picked up a remote and turned on the heater. "It's always cold here, about ten degrees cooler than outside." He placed the remote down and added, "To answer your question, we just met earlier."

Nina felt she might be overthinking things. She ran it through her mind multiple times, thinking they might know each other, but could not place his face.

"Sorry, that was inappropriate of me," Nina said. She was now feeling m warmera mer and she changed the subject, "You mentioned Miranda is your patient. Can you elaborate?" Wilfred narrowed his eyes, sipping

his coffee, and spoke candidly, "I think you want to know why Miranda lost her, hearing Yes, it was my doing. She ctotoday asking for her hearing to be restored." Nina was stunned that he admitted it so readily. She had prepared herself to find nothing, but she could not understand, "Why are you tellingthis?
