Chapter 231 – Cat Dad VS Bird (2)
RUMBLE
Outside the red castle, black snow rapidly expanded. The snowfield expansion stopped at the foot of Hwarang Guild's castle walls, and ominous gas slowly came out from the corrupted soil.
Vermilion and the snipers watched the snow field growing from high ground. They broke a sweat when they saw several shadow silhouettes of adult-man-sized black eggs.
Everybody inwardly cursed Xiaomao as the culprit already withdrew from the frontline and the snow field.
Vermilion encouraged his friends, "We saw this spell before, and we know how it works! Do not panic! All mages, use your wind spells and blow the mist away. The poison mist can't spread by itself!"
Wind mages climbed to the top of the walls and began using their spells. Gales of wind blew the mist away from the wall. As the windstorm dispersed the black mist, it revealed the hidden things that came from the black snow.
Adult-sized eggs were pulsing and growing bigger every second. All of them had an eye, which glared at the people on the walls.
Fearing the unknown, Vermilion ordered his men again, "KILL IT WITH FIRE! BURN THEM ALL!"
Hearing Vermilion's next command, fire mages made their moves. They joined the wind mages and hurled small fireballs and fire lances at the black eggs.
When flame hit the black snow, the heat and the extreme cold conflicted. All fireballs and fire lances were extinguished upon contact, but a portion of black snow evaporated.
Unfortunately, because of endless mist that came out from the snow, the burnt part was quickly restored. In addition, the eggs reacted to the heat as they violently pulsed like human hearts.
The crowd looked at the mysterious things, horrified.
"Snipers! Can you kill those eggs before they hatch?" Vermilion turned to the sniper teams.
Hearing their guild master's order, they started shooting and using their skills on the eggs.
12 Damage!
15 Damage!
13 Damage!
Numbers appeared on top of the eggs. However, their HP bars didn't seem to decrease in the slightest. Moreover, their names and levels appeared for the attackers to see.
Dimensional Monster Egg, Level 325
.
Xiaomao looked back and noticed that Vermilion's men were attacking the dimensional creatures. He snickered.
"Good luck killing those backrooms creatures, munya!"
Those eggs had the same level as Xiaomao's, and they might even inherit his attributes. However, as the spell description didn't include the details of the dimensional creatures, Xiaomao didn't know what kind of beings would come out from the eggs.
His question was soon answered. As Vermilion's men bombarded the eggs with fire, they hatched and revealed their heinous appearances.
One of them was a bloody eyeball with six human limbs as its legs. It glared at the wall, and its pupil brightened.
A laser beam was suddenly shot out from the monster's eye. The black beam froze the wall with black ice, and the corrupted area expanded.
Two more emerging creatures were long-haired black-skinned wolf with human limbs as well. Their 20-meter red tongues licked the snow while they breathed out black gas. When the hounds noticed the people on the wall, they howled and charged toward the castle.
The obelisks lighted up. Two beams pierced through the ground, and they moved around like massive light sabers, burning and cutting the invading creatures.
The three monsters suffered a fatal blow and died on the spot. In addition, the paths that the obelisk's laser went through were purified from the black snow.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtVermillion Guild's players laughed and cheered. Their morale soared, and they turned their attention to Xiaomao and the remaining black snow on the field.
Seeing that the obelisks could neutralize the black snow, Xiaomao frowned. He glanced at the clock and scoffed.
'If I remember correctly, the towers will be self-destructed after five minutes, and players have to rebuild a weaker version of the towers on their own. If Pangu doesn't change anything, I can make use of this.'
Xiaomao turned around and brought out cheap bolts, which he always saved for his archer skill. Then, he crept closer to the castle until he couldn't get any further.
The cat looked around and noticed a fancy-looking man. The guy dressed like a mage but wearing a cloak as if he was a general. Xiaomao grinned and brought out a laser pointer. Then, he pointed at Vermilion.
Lock-On Mark!
.

- Inflict [Marked] and [Locked-On] abnormal status to the target. The effect lasts two minutes.
*[Marked] target is guaranteed to suffer a critical target on the next attack.
*[Locked-On] target cannot dodge the next attack.
.
This old skill had been with Xiaomao for a long time, but he never used it. But in this case, Xiaomao exploited his superior vision and marked the mage guy with a laser pointer.
Xiaomao brought out a crossbow bolt next. However, he didn't bother bringing out a crossbow since he had no use for it anymore.
He had a better skill for sniping.
.
Sonic
When people were asked about Sonic, many people thought of Sonic the H*dgehog. But in this case, it's something silly. The founder of this skill made it this way, so he could simply yeet unwanted objects to space.
This skill grants a user ability to accelerate an object to the point that it breaks the sound barrier. The object can only go in a straight line and will hit anything in its trajectory.
Skill Type: Active, Single Target
Rarity: Super Rare
Requirement: 1500 Wind Spiritual Roots, Level 150
Cost: 500 MP
Cooldown: 60 Seconds.
Effect: Shoot an object forward at the speed of sound.
.
Since Vermilion could not dodge the next attack, Xiaomao simply abused it by pointing the bolt at the former and using the skill on it.
WHOOSH!
A part of the bolt was destroyed because of the sudden force, but the bolt head was still intact. It flew so fast that Xiaomao couldn't even see it.
PU!
The bolt head pierced through Vermilion's chest and punctured an unlucky mage behind him.
175,154 CRITICAL DAMAGE!
88,056 CRITICAL DAMAGE!
The piercing damage was cut in half after it hit Vermilion, but this destructive force was enough to reduce their HP bars to zero.
Xiaomao scoffed at Vermilion, believing that he overestimated his opponents too much.
'Thanks to you, I get my hands on a new combo. Goodbye, Hwarang.'
Xiaomao turned around and prepared to regroup with his men.
GRAAAA!!
Suddenly, a crimson fire bird emerged from the castle and spread its flame peacock tails and wings. A pillar of light descended upon Vermilion and his dead guild member.
The next second, the two dead players were resurrected!
Xiaomao sensed something amiss. He turned around and found a phoenix, flying over the red castle. He gazed at the bird in astonishment, and he suddenly remembered something.
'I overlooked this. Hwarang Guild was the number one guild in Seoul for a period of time after the first invasion. I didn't get to see the guild leader's profile, but their guild emblem is a phoenix. This might be the reason why they're obsessed with that mythical bird.'
Although Xiaomao failed to assassinate Vermilion, he was overjoyed. Looking at the phoenix, he wondered if his fire immunity would work against the flame of life.
Furthermore, his cat instinct kicked in. Xiaomao salivated like a cat with rabies. His jaws clattered, and he let out a strange chattering sound. His pupils dilated while his tail waved from side to side.
His expression looked exactly like a cat behind a window, who spotted a bird outside the house.
"Ke-ke-nom-nom-nom-mu-mu-mu-nya! Ke-ke-ke-nihil-nom-nom-mu-mu-nya!"
Xiaomao couldn't stop clattering his teeth and let out strange words. He didn't know why, but his stomach rumbled even though his satiety rate was still at 90%.
The phoenix also noticed Xiaomao's expression. It glared at him in anger as Xiaomao's behavior offended him.
GRAAAA!!? (How dare you?! Who do you think I am?! Wanna eat me? How about I eat you instead!?)
The phoenix screamed and rushed out on its own without Vermilion's permission.
.
Vermilion didn't even realize that he had died once. He saw a few notification messages that his familiar spirit had resurrected him and his subordinate.
"What happened?! What killed me?!"
While Vermilion was confused, he heard the loud scream of the fledging phoenix in the sky. By the time he looked up, the phoenix already charged out of the castle, heading toward the flying catopus.
"NO! COME BACK!"
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIt was too late. The young phoenix didn't hear Vermilion.
A few moments later, everybody heard the loud noise of the catopus and the phoenix.
GRAAAA!!
NIHIL-MUNYA!!
.
The old immortals and the Cathulhu God watched the show while eating popcorn. Meanwhile, Nymph, Undine, and Ifrit sat in a different spots and laughed at Xiaomao's behavior.
"BWAHAHAHAHA! This is a CAT VS BIRD match!" Ifrit laughed and kept curling two massive dumbbells.
Undine glanced at the fire king and clicked her tongue, "Please be quiet, sir. Respect the elders and the others."
"Oh, sorry. Ahem!" Ifrit coughed and continued to exercise.
Cernun looked at the interaction between Undine and Ifrit. Then, he shook his head.
"Ifrit has done nothing wrong, Undine. Don't be rude to our new friend."
"But he has been hiding in my dungeon for years!" Undine protested.
"Hey, I never attack your people. I was just minding my own business in that hole." Ifrit snickered.
"But you blocked my dungeon's growth!"
"Why are you expanding the dungeon when you have no invader, hmm?"
Cernun facepalmed. Mimir and Taotie shrugged while Nymph pouted.
Meowmeow looked back and forth between Undine and Ifrit. He pursed his lips and flickered pieces of his nails at their forehead.
The small nails pierced a centimeter into their skulls and almost hit their brains!
Undine and Ifrit were taken aback. They pulled out the nails and bowed toward Meowmeow.
The Cathulhu God warned them, "Be quiet, munya! This is the best part!"
"…"
"…"
The crowd stopped talking and continued watching Xiaomao's match. The atmosphere became awkward.
But suddenly, Taotie slurped his saliva so loud that his voice echoed in the boss's room. The immortals turned around and glared at the lion.
Taotie widened his eyes and snorted, "Not my fault. Young phoenixes are premium spicy chickens! Who wouldn't drool when they saw such an exquisite chicken in front of you, right?"
"…"
The crowd was speechless, but Meowmeow nodded in agreement.
"All birds are like fast food, but a phoenix is a cuisine, munya! Salivating is totally normal, munya!"
"I know right? Who wouldn't be jealous of Xiaomao? Damn, I want to eat that bird."
"I'll catch you an adult one when I'm free, munya."
"R-really, sir?! Then, I'll tell you something about cooking! I know a few ingredients that goes well with chickens!"
"Oh? Tell me, munya!"
The crowd stared at Meowmeow and Taotie in disbelief. They were shocked that the obnoxious lion and the Cathulhu God got along well when it came to food topic.
