Chapter 71

Dylan POV

These lessons with the dowager queen Luna were proving to be a lot tougher than | first thought. We were

currently walking down a long hallway decorated with large portraits of people, the queen was currently going

through the history of the lycanthrope, while | was trying my hardest to retain the information she gave me. The

issue was, | was having an extremely difficult tretaining the information, | wouldn't call her the best teacher

in the world, because she wasn’t teaching me, she was just telling me, | tried to take notes as we walked but it

was becoming increasingly difficult.

“Wait, can you please say that last thing again, your grace?” She stopped in her tracks and walked over to me, |

quickly felt the slap of her ruler on my left hand yet again and my pen fell out of my grasp and hit the floor

because of it.

“Why should I even bother to continue when you clearly are not listening.” | was though, | was listening as best

as | could, but she was speaking too fast and | missed the part about the royal family.

“I'm trying to listen, you're just going too fast.” Another crack sounded and the sting in my knuckles became

more prominent. She wasn't hitting as hard as the king would, not by a long shot, but she was still causing a mild

sting to set in. It wasn’t helpingat all to concentrate though.

“Must | speak to you as if you are a simpleton?” | didn’t reply to her obvious rhetorical question, | just looked at

my very roughly scribbled notes and prayed | could read them later, it was important information | was

receiving.

“I'm human remember, I've never had to learn this stuff!” | somewhat snapped at her, it was a subject | knew

very little about, which she knew, and yet was still givingsuch a difficult time. With his grace not present in

the palace at all, | should be doing whatever | wanted, within reason of course, but | wasn’t lucky enough. In fact

I'd go as far as to say I'm one of the most unlucky people in existence. Why couldn’t | have been paired with, at

the very least, a nice wolf, or better still, just not be forced into being someone’s mate at all? | really was the

most unlucky person in the world.

“Well, now you must learn it. So pay closer attention... These are all the past rulers, dating from the first wolf to

ever shift. It is said that after pleading to the moon goddess, she chose to bless a small village after their homes

were destroyed by drought and wild fire caused by the sun god, and thus created the first wolf pack in existence,

that village leader was the one who requested her help, and was later crowned the first king of the

lycanthrope...” The queen spoke without so much as turning around to lookin the eye. She simply continued

tellingthe story of the first ever pack. | wonder, if that is the case and the first ever ruler was actually turned

from a human into a wolf, then perhaps the lycan kind could be turned into humans once again?

Maybe it was important that | learn this. Maybe | could plan or do something with the information, | could even

do more research under the guise that | was simply studying.

“Those wolves began to feel incomplete and they quickly left the confines of the village to spread themselves

single person, they were destined to be with someone who who made them feel whole, gifted to them by the

She continued on down the corridor of past rulers, and stopped at a large portrait of the kings father, the

previous ruler.

“The stronger the wolf the more likely they were to be mated to another of their kind, but you...” She stopped in

her tracks and finally turned to face me, | was caught off guard by her movements and had to take a step back

quickly so | wouldn't bump into the woman. “You are an arrogant, disobedient human who for some

unheard of, never before have we had a royal human, yet the moon goddess has chosen you out of millions of
