Dylan POV.

| couldn’t do anything but stand and watch as King Josh stalked towards me, all of my resilience completely

dissolved upon seeing him, and with it my body began to tremble. | instantly got on my knee in a very low bow,

and waited until he was directly in front of me.

“I asked you a question... Did you miss me?!‘ His tone was deadly as he looked down on my shaking form, he let

out a scoff before my shoulders were grabbed and | was hauled up on to my feet, he quickly pressed his nose

into my neck, and took a long inhale. Obviously he was taking my scent in. He let out a hum of satisfaction

before his claws grew and dug into the skin on my upper arms causingto wince in pain. “No, | don’t suppose

you have, have you?!”

I swallowed thickly as my eyes darted around the room, Oliver was there, along with the kings father and of

course Warren. The one person | wished to see however wasn’t present in the room, and because of Lewis's

absence a sinking feeling began in my chest.

“W-When did you get back?” 1 stuttered slightly as 1 spoke, he wasn’t best pleased withanswering him with

a question of my own because his grip tightened.

“You absolutely reek of him!” What, | reek of him? Him Who? The king look positively furious the more he glared

at me. “A month... I've been gone an entire month, and you've been with another man.. my beta no less!” Been

with his beta? Did he actually think I'd had sex with Lewis?

“Are you delusional?!” | couldn’t help but let my anger rise in me, | wasn’t going to stand there and be accused

of something that in actuality never happened. Of course once again my mouth ran away with me, | guess

having a month of respite had madecomplacent, | must have forgotten what King Josh could do to me.

dowager king spoke as he looked at me, | hadn't felt that scared in a month, but standing in the throne room

with all the wolves was terrifying. | was just waiting for a slap, or skind of physical pain. | knew couldn't take

another lashing, the last one was so excessive it almost killed me.

“W-what circumstances?” | didn’t have tto get my balance as King Josh suddenly let his claws slide out of

my skin by shoving my body away from him. My footing got lost from the force and | trip and fell onto my dress

cladded bottom. | felt blood drip down both my arms but didn’t dare to say anything about it as I looked up at

the king,

“You humans have no sense of loyalty, wolves mate for life! You all, simply fuck your way through life with as

many different people as you can.” What? That's not trar, | mean sure there are speople who'd cheat on

their partner, and we support polyamory and things but that doesn’t make us disloyal

“At least we don’t beat the shit out of the people we do choose to be with!” | snapped while still sitting on the

floor. Blood was still dripping down my arms, and fear was rising in me. | hated this man, | hated him, he'd

chipped away atso much that | was on the verge of collapse, and just when | was finally getting rid of all the

cracks he'd made, he cback, just to make them deeper.

“So that’s what you were doing? You slept with him to get back atfor punishing you?!” | shook my head no at

him, his tone was getting more and more hard as he spoke while my desperation for him to see that nothing had

happened, completely clouded my face.

“No! | didn’t do anything we didn’t.” It was like he’d made his mind up and nothing was going to sway him.

Maybe he was trying to find a reason to punish me. I've thought it before, that he enjoys seeinghurt.

“Honestly, After everything you have putthrough, Id be lucky if | could even kiss another guy without having

a panic attack!’ | somewhat mumbled but he heard it anyway and it caused the rest of the men to look on at me,

| could have sworn | saw guilt flash across Oliver's face but it could have just been my eyes playing tricks.

“Then explain why my beta was sleeping in your bed!” He was seeing red, you could tell by the way his eyes

bored into my own, | was getting increasingly worried about the situation. He'd only just cback and he had

already started his abuse.

“He was just comforting me, he’s the only person that can calmdown.” The kings eyes grew even darker as

he took hold of my wrist and pulled my face so close to his that | could feel his breath on my nose.

“He’s the only one that can calm you down?” He spat atbefore shakinga little, | was basically a rag doll

to him. “Are you fucking in love with him or something?” That was a trick question, I'd seen him ask questions

like this before, no matter what my answer would be, weather it be denial or acceptance, I'd still get tortured. If |

said no, I'd get punished for what the king would call lying, and if | said yes then I'd be punished for looking at

the beta when | wouldn't even accept his grace.

“She knows she’s yours, and Lewis knows she’s yours, I'm sure that he was just keeping her safe like you asked

him too.” Oliver spoke coming up behind him. “Why don’t you go and spend sttogether. You've been

gone a month.”
