She let out a sigh, and heard Patric echo it with one of his own. “Maja, I wanna go home, leave this
island, head back to Greenfield Gardens.” With a motherly gesture, Maja shoved a cookie into his
mouth. “Eat up. We’ll talk once you’ve had something in your stomach.” She dared not leave their
makeshift shelter under the bridge, especially during daylight. Who knew where those thugs might be
lurking? Escaping with two kids in tow was a fool’s errand. After munching on a cookie, Maja told
Quentin to catch some Z’s. But Quentin asked, “You planning on heading out tonight?” “Yeah, I need to
check on those goons from last night. There seemed to be two factions; one after me, the other caught
up in some infighting. They probably grabbed Ian, I’ve got to see what’s up.” A flicker of something
passed through Quentin’s eyes. Should he stage another drama tonight while she’s out? He’d made

Forbidden Island was Quentin’s turf. Young but savvy, he’d kept it free from K’s influence, though K’s
minions were certainly around. Probably from the moment Maja set foot here, K’s eyes were on her.
But out of respect for Quentin’s domain, they hadn’t made any bold moves. Impatience nipped at
Quentin. He loathed that sanctimonious facade. The trio holed up under the bridge for the day. As dusk
settled, Maja prepared to leave, instructing Quentin, “If those guys find this place, take Patric and run.
Forget about me. You have my number. Call anytime.” “Sure.” Quentin’s lips curled into a sinister smile.
Tonight would mark Maja’s downfall. Once she was caught and subjected to harsh questioning. Maja
patted Quentin’s head, her voice laced with concern. “Quentin, you’re troubled. Remember, I’m here if
you need me.” His eyelashes fluttered as he casually inquired, “That Jellyfish Seal, where is it exactly?”
Maja froze. Why would he ask about that? “Maja, will you tell me?”

After a few seconds, she replied, “What’s there to hide? I did bring it to Forbidden Island, but I’m aware
of the dangers it harbors. So I buried it in our yard on Outer Island. In the future, you can help me
retrieve it.” That yard? Impossible. He’d never seen her move it. Maja ruffled his hair, “Quentin, why ask
about it? Do you want it? It’s dangerous.” He shrugged off her hand, his eyes darkening. She was likely
lying. She wouldn’t leave something so important in that yard. A cold smirk danced on his lips. It
seemed he’d have to rely on her capture tonight. Only torture would loosen her tongue. He had given
her a chance, and she failed to appreciate it. “I got it, Maja. Go ahead, I’ll take care of Patric.” If trouble

turned back, and placed a single piece of candy in Quentin’s hand. “The last one.” Quentin’s palm
burned slightly at the touch. He instinctively wanted to discard the candy but feared being too obvious.
“Are you treating me like a kid?” “Aren’t you a kid? I’ll be back soon. Last night’s mess won’t repeat
itself.” Leaving the candy behind, Maja departed. She could never have guessed that the troubled
youth she’d met was none other than Mr. Gellar from BK. She’d seen his despair, his bitterness, his
sense of helplessness regarding his future – she knew it all too well. She had instinctively come to care
for him as if he were a younger brother. Just like she had, at that vulnerable age of seventeen or
eighteen.
