Gabriel squeezed out a smile. “You treat me too well, Mr. Faymon.” God save me…
“Good. I’ll be counting on you,” Curtis replied.
Alright Golf Club was rather far away from town. Hence, it took an hour of driving for Rayna to get there.
When she asked the person in charge there if Wyatt was around, he said Wyatt had left ten minutes ago after
golfing with clients during the afternoon.
She cursed in her mind before driving to the club.
For the whole afternoon, she had been traveling from one location to another. She went from the Lopez residence
to Lopez Group, Sanders Group, the golf club, and, finally, Wyatt’s club. By the time she arrived, it was already half
past seven in the evening.
The manager on duty that day recognized Rayna and relayed a piece of bad news to her. “Mr. Lopez only dropped
off his clients here and asked us to serve them. He left half an hour ago.”
I missed him! Again! Rayna was furious, but she still asked collectedly, “Do you know where he lives? Or if he’ll
return later during the night?”
“I don’t know where he lives,” the manager answered. “Occasionally, he’ll come over to chat with clients. When he
doesn’t, he’ll ask the club to send them back home.”
She responded with enraged silence.
Sensing she was in a bad mood, he said, “You seem to be searching for Mr. Lopez due to an urgent matter. How
about you wait for him here? I’ll contact you once he arrives.”
“Fine.” After running around for the whole afternoon, she was tired and hungry. “Do you have any seats left in the
restaurant? I want to eat something.”
“Yes, we do. I’ll take you there.”
Rayna ordered many dishes, including roast fish. Once her food was served, she dug in eagerly.
As she ate, she complimented the chef Wyatt hired in her mind. This fish is absolutely delicious, especially the
sauce!
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHalfway through her meal, a waiter rushed to her side and apologized, “I’m sorry, miss! The chef accidentally
messed up the sauce and ruined the taste! I’ll change it for you right away!”
“Is it? I think it’s pretty great.” Rayna took another bite of the fish. “I even want to praise your chef’s skills because
this is too good.”
“Ah.” The waiter then asked carefully, “You don’t think it tastes too sour, miss?”
“Nope!”
He felt like he had just asked a stupid question. Her expression didn’t change at all when she took a bite, so why
would she think the sauce tastes sour?
After he returned to the kitchen, the plump chef asked anxiously, “How did it go? The customer wasn’t angry, was
she? Quickly, serve her this roast fish I have remade.”
“There’s no need,” the waiter replied.
The chef took in a deep breath. “She’s not filing a complaint against me, is she? I’ll apologize to her right away.”
As he spoke, he was about to bring the roast fish he had prepared out of the kitchen.
However, the waiter stopped him and delivered him a stack of cash. “The customer said she loved the roast fish.
This is the reward for you.”
“She doesn’t think it tastes sour?” It was then the kitchen helper approached them in shock. “I didn’t notice I
accidentally poured too much lemon juice into the sauce earlier. But when I did and tasted it, I thought it was so
sour that my teeth were going to fall off!”
in response, the waiter shrugged. “She didn’t think it was sour, considering she took a bite in front of me without
changing her expression.”
“Does she have a problem with her sense of taste?”
“Her sense of taste is fine!” The waiter rolled his eyes at the kitchen helper. “Also, she mentioned the sweet and
sour ribs weren’t sour enough and that she hopes the next time she orders it, it’ll be less sweet. Got it?”
Rubbing his nose, the kitchen helper smiled. “This lady has a really high tolerance for sourness, huh?”
“Maybe she just likes sour food.” When the waiter saw the chef counting the stack of cash, he placed his hand on
the latter’s shoulder. “How about you split half of the cash with me, and I’ll tell you who that customer is, Beau?”
“Who is she? Is she a food critic?” the chef asked.
Shaking his head, the waiter replied, “When I was returning here, I noticed the manager politely asking her what
she thought about the food. So, I decided to ask around about her. Do you want to take a guess as to what I
learned?”
“She’s our future proprietress?”
“Last year, something big happened in this club. The boss got so mad that he fired everyone working on the second
floor. You two know about this, right?” The waiter lowered his voice and acted mysterious. “The one who almost
had an accident is our owner’s close friend and the club’s second owner.”
The kitchen helper was confused. “We know that, but how does this relate to the female customer?”
“A lot!” The waiter purposefully dragged out the last word to keep the other two hooked to the reveal. “This lady is
Mr. Faymon’s girlfriend! She visited the club a few times in the past with him.”
“Really?”
“If you don’t believe me, you can ask around yourself.” As the waiter spoke, he took half of the cash from the chef’s
hand. “You’d better serve Ms. Garland well and keep her happy, Beau, because that’ll make Mr. Faymon happy.”
The kitchen helper scratched his short hair and blurted, “Since she likes sour food so much, does this mean she’s
pregnant?”
In response, the waiter and the chef turned toward him.
The helper felt uncomfortable being stared at like that, so he grumbled, “Mmm, that was what happened to my
second sister-in-law. When she was pregnant, she loved to eat sour and spicy food. Occasionally, my brother would
ask me to cook for her. Even when I made extra spicy chicken for her, she thought it tasted fine. Think about it. Do
normal people love sour food that much?”
“I think you may have a point.” The waiter agreed before patting the chef’s shoulder. “You should prepare a few

tonight.”
Nodding, the chef asked, “How about you send the smoothie I’ve almost finished preparing to her?”
“Who’s it for?”
“The clients Mr. Lopez brought here,” the kitchen helper interrupted. “I’ll prepare two more dishes for them later,
so serve Ms. Garland the smoothie. She’s pregnant, so we should be more attentive to her.”
“Fine, fine. Just get it done quickly.”
A few minutes later, the waiter delivered Rayna the smoothie.
She was surprised. “Did you get my orders wrong? I didn’t ask for a smoothie.”
“The chef requested me to present it to you as thanks for liking his roast fish.” He spun a clever response on the
spot. “This smoothie was passionately prepared by the chef. Believe me when I say it’s delightfully tasty.”
Rayna’s appetite for the smoothie was roused when she took in the plain fragrance of the beverage. Without
hesitation, she handed the waiter another stack of cash.
The smoothie had a simple taste, but she loved it the moment she took a sip.
After she finished her meal, she sat on her chair, unwilling to move.
As Rayna rested in the restaurant for a long time, she used her phone to take care of some stuff.
When it was nine at night, she asked for the manager. “Is Mr. Lopez back yet?”
“He hasn’t,” the manager replied. “The clients had left, so I don’t think Mr. Lopez will return tonight. Do you want
me to send you back? I’ll notify you in advance if Mr. Lopez is visiting next time.”
“No need. I drove here.” Rayna waved. Well, there’s nothing I can do if Wyatt’s not coming. Still, I had a fantastic
meal here tonight, so I’m feeling pretty good.
As she left the restaurant in her coat, she saw a few men being led into the club on the first floor’s corridor.
One of the men was someone she was familiar with.
“Mr. Snyder,” she greeted.
