127 Meeting A...

The fireball that suddenly came out of nowhere didn’t look threatening at all, and with the speed that it was currently flying in, Blake could easily dodge the fireball by leisurely walking to the side.

However, the fireball would then hit the sailboat and cause the wood that made the sailboat to burn down, destroying his only way of transportation in and out of the main continent.

So Blake didn’t just let the fireball fly through unhindered, instead, Blake drew a fairly simple rune with one hand, finishing it in a split second, and cast a darkness barrier spell in front of the ship, directly cutting off the trajectory of the fireball from hitting the ship.

Upon the fireball making contact with his darkness barrier, Blake could feel the strength of the fireball that was at least as strong as a mid-level boar, the ones that gave him 3 souls, charging straight onto the barrier.

The fireball crashed into the barrier before it was dispersed onto the surroundings.

The fireball definitely couldn’t be considered weak in physical standard as a boar that level could make a sizable dent on a thick tree trunk, and a fireball, something that shouldn’t have a solid physical form, like an earth spike, had that amount of power behind it.

However, that amount was nothing for the current Blake, who had his spirit stat on 50, way above his physique stat, and the fact that he had poured more nether into the spell, making it stronger just in case the fireball was strong enough to break it.

It was his first time ever seeing a flying fireball on the main continent, a place that he knew nothing about.

And because of that, Blake put on more guard and spent a little more nether to his darkness barrier spell.

.....

After the short exchange of fireballs and the darkness barrier was finished, Blake quickly had his eyes scanning the shore, trying to find whoever or whatever it was that had thrown a fireball to his face before even saying a word of greeting.

But what he found instead wasn’t any creatures, to his surprise, he soon found more fireballs coming towards him from the side of the tall mounds.

And it wasn’t just one or two, in fact, it was at least 10 fireballs, being thrown straight toward him.

Seeing this sudden attack coming from the island, Vera was about to fly straight to the tall mound of earth and find whatever was causing trouble for her despite her not even stepping a single foot on the main continent yet.

She made sure that not a single humanoid demon was present when she scouted the area, but the sudden intrusion made it as if she did her work poorly and she wanted to quickly fix it.

However, Blake soon made her stop from making any moves as he confidently shouted,

“Let me handle this!”

Instead of drawing runes to create a darkness barrier that was huge enough to cover the whole ship, which was impossible to do with only one or two sets of runes since the set of runes could only be injected with so much nether before they reached their maximum capacity, Blake didn’t cast a single spell and instead reached out to one of his dimensional pouches.

Spending not more than a second rummaging through the dimensional pouch, Blake grabbed onto a hand-sized cube made out of wood, filled with inscriptions on its surface.

Blake then began pouring his nether into the wooden cube, giving much more nether than when he cast the barrier spell earlier, even enough to cast five of those barrier spells, before he then threw the cube forward, straight in front of the ship.

When the cube reached a few meters in front of the ship, directly in front of the 10 fireballs, the cube flashed and finally manifested the spell that had been inscribed inside it, using the abundant of nether that Blake had put into it as a fuel to create a stronger and better version of the original spell that it supposed to have.

Upon the cube flashed, a large darkness barrier, enough to cover the whole ship, and with the color of darkness even thicker than the first barrier, appeared right in front of the ship, protecting the ship from the 10 fireballs that threatened to burn the whole thing down.

Rather than trying to move his hands erratically so that he would be able to make it in time, Blake was using a rune formation to create a stronger darkness barrier without wasting his time drawing sets of runes in seconds, and instead just threw a rune formation in less than a couple of seconds.

And different when he cast the spell with his own hand and he could feel how strong the impact of the attack was, he was using a rune formation and he couldn’t directly feel how strong those 10 fireballs that had hit his darkness barrier spell were.

But he had other ways to find that out such as seeing how the darkness thick darkness barrier only trembled slightly when the impact happened, Blake could know that the fireballs were at least the same strength as before and he had put too much nether in the cube, making a very powerful shield that wasn’t as cost-effective in reaching his objective.

‘I need to learn more about these things and gain more experience about the different types of attacks and how strong they are’ Blake thought to himself.

‘I need to learn to conserve my nether.’

After getting into a chase with 25 humanoid demons, Blake knew that endurance would be one of the most important things to have in a prolonged battle.

And since he was a demon mage, his nether was his lifeline, and he shouldn’t ever run out of them completely lest he wants to be left weak on the ground after running out of nether.

Blake shook his head as he put away the thoughts that appeared in his mind after his quick experiment that was undoubtedly considered to be successful as there wasn’t even a single burnt mark on the ship.

He knew that whatever threw those fireballs at him was still on the shore, precisely behind the tall mound of earth that covered anything standing behind it.

“Vera, there weren’t any humanoid demons here, right?”

“Yes. Or at least, I was 100% sure before that I didn’t see a single demon on this shore. But I guess there might be a few hidden behind one of the earth mounds and I missed them.”

Blake was about to get down from the ship and confront whatever it was that had attacked him and tried to burn him alive.

He trusted Vera and he knew that the chance of it being a humanoid demon that had attacked him was minuscule as he had never seen a humanoid demon mage capable of casting spells that fast.

10 fireballs in just a few seconds, something that the humanoid demons that were only capable of drawing one set of runes in three whole seconds wouldn’t be able to do.

The only way to do it was if there were more than a single humanoid demon mage, which would not be possible as Vera wouldn’t be so bad that she would miss 10 humanoid demons with her eyes.

So he assumed that it was a strong demonic beast that used its bloodline power to attack him. As different from the humanoid demons that rarely have bloodline powers, all demonic beasts had one.

However, as soon as he saw the creature that came out from behind the tall earth mound, Blake was frozen in place as he had his eyes staring unmoving at the creature that had finally decided to come out to meet him.
