Capítulo 33

Neera fue al centro de investigación y habló con la gente de allí. Después de eso, fue

al Hospital Grace.

Isabella se alegró mucho cuando recibió la llamada telefónica de Neera. Rápidamente fue al

vestíbulo para recibirla.

“¡Por fin has vuelto a Kingsview, Neera! ¡Te extraño mucho!” Isabella exclamó

emocionada y abrazó a Neera con fuerza.

La última vez que se vieron fue antes de que Neera abandonara el país. Isabella le había pedido a

Neera que regresara varias veces, pero Neera nunca aceptó.

Ahora que Neera había aparecido repentinamente ante ella sin previo aviso,

no pudo evitar decir enojada: “¿Por qué no volviste a Kingsview y me visitaste durante tantos

años? ¡Quizás me haya olvidado de ti! ¿Todavía piensas en mí como un amigo?

Neera sabía que Isabella sólo se estaba burlando de ella. Ella tomó sus manos y sonrió.

“Si no te hubiera considerado un amigo, no habría venido a buscarte sólo unos días

después de mi regreso permanente”, dijo.

Fueron a la oficina de Isabella y charlaron.

Después de las bromas iniciales, Isabella dijo: “He estado tratando de que regreses a

Kingsview, pero siempre te has negado. ¿Qué te hizo regresar esta vez? ¿ Paso

algo?”

Neera no ocultó sus objetivos a Isabella. “Regresé para ayudar a mi tía a administrar

su centro de investigación en Kingsview. Además… quiero recuperar las acciones que mi madre

me dejó”.

Isabella sabía lo complicada que era la situación familiar de Neera. Ella asintió y dijo: “Sí.

Eso es lo que te deben y tú debes tomar lo que por derecho te pertenece. ¿ Pero

eso significa que te mudarás a Kingsview permanentemente? ¡Genial! ¿ Por qué no

vienes a trabajar a mi hospital cuando estés libre?

Neera inicialmente se negó, pero Isabella no aceptó nada.

“¡No me importa! Te he guardado un puesto. Me has rechazado suficientes veces mientras estabas

en Essley, pero ahora que has vuelto, ¡no voy a dejar que te escapes! Además, necesito pedirte

un gran favor…”

Neera sabía que Isabella no abandonaría el tema si no estaba de acuerdo, así que asintió

y dijo: “Está bien, está bien, escucharé lo que dices. ¿Que necesitas de mi?”

“Tengo un paciente con un tumor cerebral importante que es necesario extirpar. Se estima que las

posibilidades de

éxito de la operación son inferiores al 30 por ciento…” Isabella comenzó a

explicarle su situación a Neera.

“Debes saber que vengo de una familia de médicos, ¿verdad? Las luchas internas han sido muy

intensas durante los últimos dos años. ¡Mi padre ha sido marginado gradualmente y está

a punto de perder el control de este hospital ante mi prima! Esta operación será mi última

oportunidad de salvar a mi padre. Si tengo éxito, seré la futura directora del hospital, pero si fracaso…

Neera entendió lo que Isabella quería decir, aunque no terminó la

frase.

Si la operación fracasaba, Isabella quedaría fuera de la lucha por el

control del hospital.

“El deber del médico es salvar vidas y prefiero no involucrarme en política, pero este

hospital es el trabajo de toda la vida de mi padre y no quiero que caiga en manos de otra persona”.

Neera sintió pena por Isabella. Podía imaginar cuántos adversarios tuvo que enfrentar

en su propia familia.

“I didn’t know you were facing such a serious problem. Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” she said.

Isabella smiled wryly. “I didn’t want to trouble you, but I don’t have any other choice… Also, you’re the

only doctor who can raise the chances of success of this operation to

be above 60 percent.”

Neera nodded and agreed to it without a second thought. “Don’t worry. I will help you

with the operation.”

Isabella’s eyes welled up with tears of gratitude. “You’re so nice to me, Neera. Thank

you!”

Neera squeezed her hand and smiled warmly. “You don’t have to thank me. I’m always

grateful for what you did for me.”

Six years ago, when Neera was locked in the research laboratory, Isabella was the one

who saved her and her children.

Neera practically owed Isabella her life. That was why she would do everything she

could to help Isabella.

The two women continued to discuss the patient’s condition. Isabella handed Neera

the medical records and related documents.

“These are the complete medical records of the patient. You can browse through them

whenever you’re free,” Isabella said.

Neera nodded and said. “Alright. I’ll take a look at them after I get home.”

Isabella thought for a while before asking for Neera’s permission. “Also, I’d like to

announce to the public that the legendary Dr. Nancy will be performing the operation. Is

that okay? That way, I can convince my elders to let me handle this operation!”

Chapter 33 I’ll Treat You Better

Neera accepted the idea. After all, she would be wearing a surgical mask, and no one

would know who she was!

After deciding on the matter, Neera left Isabella’s office with the documents.

When she arrived home, the triplets surrounded her excitedly.

Harvey took Neera’s briefcase from her hand and placed it away. “Mommy, is your work

going smoothly?”

Neera’s heart melted when she saw the three adorable children. She smiled and

nodded. “Mm, it’s going smoothly.”

-Sammy held a game controller in one hand. He took Neera’s hand with his other hand

and led her to the sofa. “You must be tired, Mommy. Why don’t you rest for a while?”

Penny climbed up the sofa and curled in her lap. “Mommy, did you visit Godmother

earlier? Why didn’t she come here with you?”

Neera cuddled the little girl and smiled.

“She’s still busy now. I told her to come and visit you three whenever she’s free.”

“Yay!” The triplets cheered. “We haven’t seen her for so long. We miss her!”
