They knew Ethan would never fall in love with Alice, so Irvin didn’t hold back with his mockery.
“My, she loves him so much. Even gave him a whole company before they got married,” Chris mocked,
emphasizing the ‘loves him so much’ part.
Ethan looked at the glass of red wine before him, his gaze piercing through the crimson liquid. Under the light, the
wine glinted like stars in the night sky.
She loves Bruce? Last time they talked about marriage, she said she would rather marry Bruce than him. The night
before, she said Bruce was leagues better than he was, and she said she didn’t like Ethan. Does she really love him
so much?
“She might have run the company to the ground, so her family handed things over to Bruce,” said Benjamin. He
thought of a lot of things in their oversimplified forms.
“No. The company’s been doing well lately. All their investments turned a profit,” Irvin said. He had started to take
over his family’s business, so he knew a bit about the business world.
“He’s right. Woland Group has been making profits lately. Every investment they make will turn a profit. It’s loads
better than my company. There’s no way Alice knew how to run a company, so there must be someone teaching
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇther. She’s lucky,” said Chris. He knew more than Irvin did.
Irvin’s eyes shone. “Oh, who is it?” He was reminded of the person who came up with the proposal for him.
“No idea. I’ve looked into it, but I found nothing. From what I know, Alice never took part in any decision-making.
She never even joined any of their meetings. All she does is sign the documents. It’s like picking up money with her
eyes closed,” said Chris, but he wasn’t mocking this time. In fact, he was jealous. He would love to have that kind of
luck. “If I know who’s helping them, I’d hire them no matter what.”
“Tanner’s already back, isn’t he? I mean, you can always try to hire him.” Irvin smiled at Chris. He wanted to know if
Chris had made a move.
“Don’t try to get any information from me. Every company in this city wants to hire him, but we can’t find him.
Can’t even contact him, so no offers can even be made,” said Chris. There was no need to hide anything. They
couldn’t find or hire Tanner anyway.
“Your father asked you to hire Tanner too, didn’t he, Ethan? How’s that going?” Chris only gave up on hiring Tanner
because he knew the Knights wanted to hire him as well.
“Couldn’t get in touch with him.” Ethan sipped some wine, but then he stopped.
He had a feeling he missed something. Caleb found out that Tanner reserved a room in Imperial Hotel, and it was
right beside Alice’s room. Alice checked out on the day of the wedding. Tanner hadn’t checked out, but he had
never gone back to the hotel. The Imperial Hotel’s presidential suite wasn’t cheap. Even if Tanner could afford it, he
wouldn’t spend unnecessary money on this. He was a businessman after all. He’s never even stayed in his room
after he reserved it, so why did he reserve that room?
“See? Not even Ethan managed to get in touch with Tanner, let alone us. Eh, we should just give up. I just want to
find out who’s helping Woland Group and see if I can entice them into working with me.” Chris was a practical guy.
He wouldn’t dwell on impossible things. Instead, he would rather spend his time on things that were possible.
“Sure. Good luck finding them.” Irvin raised a toast.
“Thanks.” Chris picked up a glass of wine and downed it. He was serious about what he said just now. It wasn’t on
impulse that he wanted to find who was helping Woland Group. The investigation had started two years ago, but he
still made no headway.
“Hey, you’re spacing out. What’s wrong?” Derek noticed that Ethan wasn’t saying anything, and he wasn’t drinking
either. He worked at the police department, so reading people was part of his job. He could tell that something was
off with Ethan. He has something on his mind.
“It’s because he married Alice. Why did you have to marry her? If you’re worried about Caroline getting lambasted
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmby your family, you can always use another way to get around it.” Chris couldn’t understand why Ethan married
Alice.
“Ah, he doesn’t care about that. He’s doing it because of the Wallaces.” Derek thought it was because of that. That
was the only reason he could think of.
“The Wallaces?” The mention of that made Chris shiver. The Wallace Family was a den of demons and made life a
living hell.
The head of that family had nine sons, and now, only three survived. Out of the three, one was a cripple, and one
was not right in the head. Everyone else died horribly.
After Felix married Christine, he announced to the public he wouldn’t take part in the game of thrones that his
family had. The Knights personally guaranteed it as well, but Felix still died in a car crash. He and Christine and their
toddler were in the car. Caroline only lived out of pure luck.
“They won’t even let his child go?” Irving frowned. The mention of the Wallaces reminded him of Christine, and his
heart sank.
“You do know who’s their young master, don’t you?” Derek shook his head. If the Wallace Family’s young master
were anyone else, Caroline would be fine, but…
Sh*t, Chris thought. It’s Triston. He’s Felix’s twin, and they’ve always been close. If he knows his brother’s daughter
is still alive, he’s going to jump into this mess. Even if he doesn’t, his family is going to use the girl against him.
“Honestly, why did Christine fall for Felix? His family’s a mess.” Chris felt solemn too thinking about what happened.
“If she hadn’t married him, none of this would have happened.”
