Chapter 542 Life and Death Separate
Huston couldn’t listen to him. He only knew that if he let go of her now, she would have to stay here
alone. He didn’t want to.
“Listen up!” Seeing him in such a daze, Kevin raised his voice and grabbed him by the collar. “The
person you’re holding onto is the one who risked his life to rush into the sea of fire to save her. You
can’t do this to him, understand?”
Regarding matters related to Evelyn, Huston finally understood a little. The strength in his hand relaxed
for a moment, and it was during this time that Kevin pulled the fire chief to the side and said in a low
voice, “All of you can withdraw.”
“Got it!” The fire chief thanked Kevin gratefully. “Thank you, Mr. Kevin.”
After saying that, he looked at the necklace that Huston held tightly in his hand, which was evidence
left at the scene. The man hesitated for a moment and said, “This necklace…”
Kevin raised his hand to stop him. “Leave it to him.”

bear to take it away from her.
The fire chiel nodded and turned to leave.
The sound of the fire alarm gradually faded, and everything disappeared into the dark night.
The night wind kept blowing. Fortunately, the darkness of the night descended, adding a veil of
concealment to this cruel separation.
With a slow turn of his head, Huston gazed at the river surface. The once winding and picturesque
moat had lost its former beauty, now appearing grim and terrifying. Scattered across the pitch-black
water were fragments of damaged vehicles, silently narrating the reason for Evelyn’s disappearance –
she was engulfed by this body of water.
A terrifying scene gradually appeared in front of Huston’s eyes. A charred corpse had been fished out.
There was no longer any life and beauty from the past, only an icy cold and stiff feeling.
Huston abruptly closed his eyes and took a big step back, almost losing his balance. With little
strength, he tightly clutched the necklace in his palm.
This made Kevin worried about his current situation. “Let me give you a mild sedative to calm you
down.”
Huston didn’t say anything. To be exact, he was nearing a state of losing normal bodily functions. Only
when he heard the words “Evelyn” could he be awakened.
Kevin waved his hand toward the person next to him, indicating
to hand over the medication. Disinfecting, finding a vein, and administering the injection were all done
in one. Meanwhile, despite being pricked with the needle, Huston seemed to feel nothing at all.
This medication was independently developed by the Lane’s Hospital. Its effect was not strong and
differed from ordinary sedatives. It primarily alleviated a person’s mental state through the action of its
components.
After the injection, Kevin put the syringe back into the suitcase and said to the medical staff, “You can
go back first.”
There were very few people left at the scene. It was enough that he stayed here.

As the medical team left, a sense of desolation filled the air. Fortunately, there wasn’t much time before
Marcellus and his team arrived at the scene.
Five large black minivans came, as well as a separate utility vehicle. The cars were parked on the side
of the road, and the doors were opened. People in black protective suits got out one after another.
Marcellus was wearing a dark red velvet shirt with a V-neck design that was quite bold, revealing half of
his collarbone. Only someone with his demeanor could pull off such a flamboyant style. Clearly, in a
hurry, he felt that the color wasn’t quite suitable, so he wore a black overcoat to conceal it partially.
He strode over, his pants sticking to his legs in the wind. Before
he could get close, he was shocked by the scene in front of him. He frowned and looked at Kevin.
“Kevin, what’s going on?”
Kevin pulled him aside and whispered, “The car escorting Evelyn has plunged into the river. The fire
department just left, so send someone down to search for it.”
Marcellus nodded and immediately turned around to give instructions. These people were either former
firefighters or retired armed police officers whom he had recruited through his connections. Their skills
were not necessarily inferior to those of the official teams.
