Chapter 657 I Owe Them So Much
On the way, the two of them hardly spoke. It was instead Lucas who couldn’t contain his excitement,
chattering
non-stop. As he looked at the crowds with black hair and dark pupils filling the streets, he felt delighted.
“Mom, they’re all like me!”
Evelyn forced a smile, but she had no mood at all. The thought of returning home and seeing Ben and
Lucy made her heart pound.
The car stopped at a traffic light, and the man stole a glance at her, suggesting with his eyes, “Have
you figured out what to say when you get back?”
Evelyn’s troubled thoughts were interrupted. She lowered her gaze, looking at her hands on her knees.
“Not yet.”
She had no idea what would happen when they arrived. She even feared that Ben and Lucy wouldn’t
recognize Lucas.
“Don’t worry too much. They’re doing well and they miss you,”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHuston spoke softly, a rare tenderness in his voice.
Evelyn forced a bitter smile, her breath becoming unsteady.
“I’ve been gone for five years. I owe them so much. Even if
nd, it’s only fair.”
Huston felt a pang in his heart upon hearing her words. After all, this whole situation was their fault, and
he had to take part of the blame.
Lucas sat in the back, not understanding what Mr. Lloyd and his mother were talking about. He just
vaguely felt that Mr. Lloyd seemed to have some connection to them, and couldn’t help but stare at the
back of his head, lost in thought.
For the rest of the journey, neither of them spoke. Both were restless, especially Evelyn, whose mind
was tangled up in knots.
The car entered Hub Apartment and parked steadily downstairs. Evelyn still hadn’t come back to her
senses.
“Mr. Lloyd, have we arrived?” Lucas exclaimed, showing
unusual excitement.
Upon hearing his voice, Evelyn suddenly realized they had already reached home. She quickly
unbuckled her seat belt, and just as her fingertips touched the car door handle, she heard the steady
voice of the man beside her, “I’ll wait for you downstairs. Let me know if you need anything.”
“No need,” Evelyn rejected without hesitation. Then fearing he might get angry and insist, she hurriedly
explained, “There
shouldn’t be anything, and besides, it’s my first day back. It’s not appropriate for you to come up with
me.”
“I’ll be downstairs.”
“Huston,” Evelyn called him, but her gaze didn’t meet his.
Instead, she looked straight ahead with a hint of helplessness. “Just listen to me this once.”
In the end, Huston still left. Evelyn pleaded with such reluctance, not putting up a fight or acting
aggressively, but rather with a humble attitude tinged with pleading. He couldn’t turn a blind eye to her,
but it didn’t make him feel any better, as his concerns had become a burden for her.
Huston held the steering wheel with both hands, watching the traffic ahead. It suddenly dawned on him
that keeping her by his side wasn’t as easy as he thought. He knew that Evelyn still had feelings for

simple as before, but besides their emotions, there were too many people and things standing between
them. All of it needed reconciliation, a resolution from deep within.
As Huston pondered, he remembered the phone he had left aside. He pressed the Bluetooth button to
answer the call, and it was his mother, Cathy, on the line.
“Huston, I heard you returned to the country yesterday. You’ve
been away for quite some time this time. Your grandparents miss you a lot. How about joining us for
dinner tonight? Your cousin Renee is also home, and we can make dumplings.”
Compared to Cathy’s cheerful tone, Huston seemed
somewhat indifferent. “You all go ahead and eat. I have some things to take care of.”
“What’s keeping you so busy?” Cathy knew her son was busy, but his cold demeanor still made her a
little unhappy. She didn’t dare to show her dissatisfaction and could only suppress it. “Mom
understands that your work is important, but after so long, your grandparents finally made the request.
Can’t you put things aside for a while? You know their health. has been poor these past couple of
years, and there won’t be many opportunities for all of us to be together in the future. They…”
