Chapter 1378 Like a Father
Evelyn paused, recalling the 'Miss Juliet' he was referring to. At that time, she was worried about Beryl taking the
heavily intoxicated Marcellus home, fearing that something might go wrong. So, she had left her phone number as
a precaution.
"Do you want me to send it to you now?"
"Yeah, thank you."
"No problem," she replied. After a pause, she asked, "Why are you looking for Beryl's number, Kevin?"
Upon hearing this, Kevin sighed helplessly, "It's all because of Marcellus. He must have said something wrong to
Lucas again. They had a fight, and he drank heavily yesterday. His stomach condition acted up. It seems no use for
me to advise him; it might be better to talk to Beryl."
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtIf either of them was a bit more considerate, there would be no issue.
Evelyn nodded in agreement, "You can tell Marcellus really cares about her. Have a good talk with her; she seems
to be very reasonable."
"Okay, let's talk later. Go ahead with your work."
After hanging up, Kevin immediately dialed the number Evelyn had sent him, looking as worried as a concerned
father.
At six in the morning, the call rang for a while without an answer. Just when the automated message 'Sorry, the
person you are calling is not available now' started, Kevin hung up the phone.
She's probably still sleeping at this time.
Just as he was about to put his phone aside to call later, the phone in his hand suddenly vibrated. It was the same
number he had just called.
He promptly answered, "Hello, is that Miss Juliet?"
Beryl was keeping a vigil at the hospital as her father had suddenly fallen ill. Many of their belongings were still at
the hotel. As Wallis was still weak, her aunt had gone to fetch them. It was Beryl who had stayed with her father
after the surgery.
She had barely slept all night and was utterly exhausted. Only after hearing the man's voice on the phone did she
become somewhat alert. "Hello, this is Beryl. May I know who this is?"
"It's me, Kevin. You met me at Evelyn's wedding, remember?" Just in case she couldn't recall, Kevin guided her with
utmost patience, "You were looking for Marcellus and I helped you find him."
It was six in the morning and Beryl was still a bit groggy. It took her a while to dredge up a faint recollection from
the depths of her mind.
"Oh... I remember," Beryl sounded uncertain. "You're a doctor, right?"
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Yes," Kevin breathed a sigh of relief when he found out she still remembered him. He got straight to the point, "The
reason I'm calling so early is that I wanted to talk to you about Marcellus."
Marcellus?
Beryl Juliet was surprised, "What's wrong with him?"
"He got drunk after your argument last night. His stomach condition acted up early this morning and he's not doing
well. He's not listening to anyone, so I was hoping you could meet me and help."
Beryl bit her lip and glanced at the patient lying in the bed. Her aunt had said she would come to the hospital at
seven in the morning with breakfast to relieve her so that she could get some rest.
She could leave the hospital for a while, but Beryl was still hesitant, "Is he okay now?"
"Not really," Kevin made Marcellus's condition sound a bit more severe, not out of intention to deceive but out of
necessity.
Feeling somewhat guilty, Beryl thought about her father's medical expenses and the argument from the previous
night. After hesitating for a moment, she agreed, "My relatives will be coming to the hospital in the morning to take
over, but I need to rest before then. There is a check-up in the afternoon that I need to attend, so I will only be free
in the evening."
