Raymond lowered his eyes. Scarlett was quite right, but he had lost his marbles.
"If you hadn't mentioned Yoselin last night, | would've left here stago." With that he took a step closer to her.
Scarlett stiffened momentarily, looking somewhat disconcerted.
She thought, 'l knew it. Last night | personally gave him the opportunity to approachagain." Her charming eyes instantly becfrosty. She watched frigidly as he walked over, lifted his hand and placed it on her cheek. Scarlett didn't move. She just gazed at him.
"Don't getwrong. I'm bringing this up only because | want you to know | deeply regretted not having cherished you when we were together. I'm also aware I'm not the only man who can give you a happy life. But Scarlett, it takes an awful lot to make a relationship work. My failure to show you the love you deserved was the biggest mistake of my life, but in terms of a romantic relationship, it wasn't really that wrong ofto have no feelings for you." Scarlett knew that he had a good point. It was neither right nor wrong to have feelings for someone or have n o feelings for them.
He had had no feelings for her then, and she couldn't blhim for that.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtRaymond's only mistake had been his failure to really treat her as his wife during the three years.
Technically speaking, she herself was no less responsible for it than he was because she had insisted on marrying him, not the other way around.
That was the very reason why she had been trying her best to be tolerant of him since their divorce.
In fact, she was not that strong or that forgiving.
On the contrary, she was quite unforgiving.
She had been holding such grudges against him all along due to the apathy he had treated her with during their three-year marriage that even to this day, she was still unable to get over him completely.
Nothing overshadows what you cannot have.
Raymond felt that way, and so did she.
She had seen him as her hero and her first love when she was fifteen.
She had believed that her feelings for him would ebb away over time, but clearly, compared with the decade, the last year had served only to give her a more distinct realization that romantic relationship was a two-way process, but what she had for him was unrequited love.
"Losing you has only made it clearer to| should've cherished you. | don't expect you to acceptright away.
All I'm asking from you is a second chance." He paused momentarily and then added, "A second chance for both of us." Taken aback by his words, Scarlett abruptly shoved him away. "Stop dreaming, Raymond! There's no way I'm stepping into the strap for a second time." She had made that mistake once, and she wouldn't allow herself to make it again.
"But it's not a trap anymore, Scarlett." He lowered his head to look at her, her face reflected i n his unemotional dark eyes.
Looking up at him, Scarlett suddenly smiled, "Back at the twhen I jumped right into it, | didn't suspect it was a trap either." She had thought that the worst-case scenawould b e for her to be dragged through the mire and covered with mud. It had never occurred to her that it was a trap, one which she had almost died trying to get out.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmRaymond felt a pang of heartache at the sight of the smile on her lips. The divorce had been a terribly traumatic experience for Scarlett.
It was him who had shattered all her eager expectations for marriage and all her romantic longings.
He closed his eyes and swallowed with difficulty, his Adam's apple bobbing. "I won't push you." The stand-off exhausted Scarlett. "And you're in no position to push me, Raymond." That cut deep. Raymond was disinclined to continue the topic. "The soup's cooled off. You may drink it now." "And you may leave." "I'll leave as soon as your fever's down." He had hardly finished speaking when Scarlett grabbed his hand and pressed it against her brow.
Raymond froze, which was rather uncharacteristic of him. The warmth and smoothness beneath his palm struck him as fairly fascinating, but Scarlett didn't let his hand linger.
Barely two seconds later, she pulled his hand away." You may leave." Raymond looked at her for a while and involuntarily curled his fingers to feel his palm.
He was still faintly enthralled by the warm and smooth touch of her brow that he had felt just now, and by the fragrance she was giving off. The whole mansion was filled with her scent.
He didn't want to leave.
"I haven't had lunch yet. Can | eat first?" It was the sold ruse. Scarlett felt that he was regarding her as a complete fool. "Raymond, you've used this trick three times. Do you think I'm stupid?" "No." He pressed his lips together and was just about to speak when Scarlett suddenly lost her cool. "Exactly how much longer will you torturethis way, Raymond?" She let out a hoarse growl, her eyes reddening. Scarlett suddenly burst into tears.
