Before Alexander could finish his sentence, Raymond flatly rejected his request.
The car door was pulled shut with a hard slam and with that the vehicle drove away from him. Barely three seconds later, the black sedan disappeared into view, leaving Alexander standing amid a cloud of dust.
"Unbelievable! This is just unbelievable!” Unable to take it lying down, Alexander pulled out his cellphone and was just about to order an Uber car to take him hto get his own car when suddenly something occurred to him, and then he dialed someone else s number.
After hanging up, Alexander hurriedly took a taxi back home.
"Can you please drive a bit faster, bro?" "How am | supposed to do that?! It's rush hour, sir!" Alexander let out a sigh, wondering if he would miss the good show.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThere was a red light ahead, and Raymond's car slowly cto a halt.
He turned to look at Scarlet and explained," Hone Hill is a race track of Juanton City. There's barely any traffic in that place, so once or twice a month, scar-race clubs seal off a section of the road to race cars there." Scarlett caught on and looked at Raymond with a half smile. "Mr. Smith said you used to be the Lord of Hone Hill.
Does that mean you were the most famous car racer of your time?" Raymond who used to be the best car racer when he'd been younger was at a loss for words.
Not having received a response from him, Scarlett chuckled, "No wonder you got two limited-edition sport cars in your garage, which you see as the light of your life." The day she married into the Shaw family, the butler, when showing her around the garage, had patronizingly told her the two cars were the light of Raymond's life, that nobody was allowed to touch them without Raymond's permission.
Raymond, having noticed the gleam of amusement in Scarlett's charming eyes, felt that she was teasing him.
The expression in his eyes flickered as he said, "Who told you they're the light of my life?" "Oh, they're not? Your butler toldthat." That had been many years ago, and Scarlett had let it go. Now she could talk about those things as if telling a joke.
Raymond, however, perceived the sting in those words and felt faintly upset. He slightly lowered his head and, after a long moment, said in a deep voice, "Scarlett, the light of my life is you." Scarlett felt a warm blush rise to her cheeks. Looking at him, she snorted, "The two sport cars are the light of your life." "They're just two vehicles." He chuckled, "Don't be jealous, babe." With that Raymond ran his fingers through Scarlett's hair.
Scarlett looked at him as her ear lobes reddened bit by bit.
She felt that she messed with the wrong man.
Scarlett withdrew her gaze and pointed ahead. "The light is about to turn green.” "Yeah." Raymond made a response and flicked her one last glance before withdrawing his gaze to restart the car.
The sedan resumed moving forward.
Twenty minutes later, it drove out of the suburb.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmRaymond slowly accelerated. Scarlett, looking at the trees flashing backwards outside the window, cto know that they had gone out of the suburb.
After another twenty minutes or so, Scarlett spotted lamplight coming from five or six hundred meters ahead, accompanied by reverb music so loud that she could hear it from inside the car.
Raymond drove closer to that place, halted and took her out of the car.
It was still early. The sky had only just darkened.
They were at the foot of the hill, and the wind was very chill. Raymond drew her towards one side. The two of them walked further and further away from the crowd.
He didn't explain, and Scarlett didn't ask him.
After walking for two minutes, Raymond suddenly asked her, "Are you not afraid | might sell you?" Scarlett slightly lifted her eyebrows." Aren't | the light of your life, Raymond?" Her voice was soft, faintly silvery and quite pleasing to the ear.
Raymond turned to glance at her. In the moonlight, Scarlett's eyes were as bright as stars. He suddenly recalled that the day they got married, Scarlett had also looked at him like this when telling him she would always love him.
Raymond felt as if his heart had been hit by something heavy, but he also inexplicably felt a warm glow inside him.
He tightened his hold on her hand. "Yeah. | don't have the heart to do that." How could he bring himself to sell the apple of his eye?
