It was the third tScarlett had faced death. In the early morning hours, they were the only ones at the funeral home. Chloe's nieces and nephews were blocked out of the hospital by Chris's men. They didn't get into the funeral home. Without their noise, the funeral hwas silent, with only the sound of the wind blowing.
Chloe had been wheeled in for cremation. Chris and Scarlett were waiting outside.
The corridor was long and vacant.
Secretary Emerson's suppressed sobs could be heard in the corridor.
Scarlett looked at Chris, who was standing there and lost in thought. His eyes were looking forward, and no one could know what he was thinking about.
Scarlett took his hand.
Then Chris looked down at her and asked," Are you feeling cold?" Scarlett shook her head, "No, I'm fine." After the short conversation, the two fell back into silence.
Tpassed slowly. After forty minutes, Chloe was a pile of ashes.
Chris took his mother's urn. Then he drove back to Chloe's villa.
Chloe had wished before that she wanted the funeral to be simple and that all she needed was for her and her husband to be buried together.
The maids at Chloe's villa had almost all been dispersed, except for Lucy who had followed Chloe to the country.
When Lucy saw Chris return with his mother's urn, Lucy stood up and stared dumbfounded at the urn in Chris’ hands. After a long time, the old woman recovered to herself, "Mr. Wilson, please lay Ms.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWilson down here." Chloe had previously requested that the funeral be kept simple. Now Chris had taken her urn home. Before the burial, it was customary to light a candle in front of her urn.
Lucy had prepared it earlier. Chloe's black-and-white photo was taken two months ago. In the photo, the corners of her mouth were curled up with a smile, without a trace of sadness or fear of death.
Chris placed the urn in front of the photo. Lucy handed Chris the candle and said, " Mr. Wilson, you may light the candle for Ms. Wilson." It was about 5 a.m., and Liechtho was still in the dark. Scarlett went out of the room after changing her clothes, but she found that Chris was not on the second floor.
Scarlett compressed her lips and went downstairs.
Chris was standing motionless in front of his mother’s urn.
Scarlett wanted to walk to him, but she stopped at the stairway. She did not walk up to him after all.
Chris might not have much affection for Chloe, but Chloe was his real mother after all and she didn’t abandon Chris on purpose.
If Chris had recovered his memory, perhaps he would still grieve for Chloe's death.
At about seven o'clock, it was getting light outside the window.
Scarlett woke up startled and found herself in bed. She didn't know how she had gotten into bed.
When she saw Chris standing motionless in front of Chloe's urn last night, she didn't bother him. She just sat quietly at the stairway, keeping his company.
Then she lost consciousness and fell asleep. But when she woke up, she found herself lying in bed.
Scarlett rubbed her temples. She groped for her phone and found it was 8 a m.
They were supposed to go to the cemetery at 9 a m. to bury Chloe together with her husband.
Scarlett hurriedly got up and washed up.
When she got out of the room, Lucy had made breakfast ready.
It wasn't easy to have an authentic hometown breakfast at Bomsville. Lucy had cooked mushroom soup, toast, and fried ham hocks.
"Ms. Reed, good morning." "Good morning, Lucy." Just then, Chris cdownstairs.
He was still wearing the sclothes he had worn yesterday. The stubble on his chin grew thicker than yesterday, and his eyes were bloodshot. He must have been up all night. Chris looked at Scarlett, "Take your breakfast first." Then he walked to his room.
Fifteen minutes later, Chris cout of his room. The stubble on his chin was gone. He had changed into a suit.
Although his eyes were still bloodshot, he looked much more refreshed.
Chloe once said that all people die eventually and that she had lived sixty-two years, though not very long, she was content.
Chloe had many good friends during her lifetime. But she didn't want them to shed tears for her when she left.
She just wanted to be buried with her husband. She wanted the funeral to be simple.
The funeral was simple as she wished. Secretary Emerson notified Chloe's friends. They watched as the priest placed her ashes with her husband's. They then closed their eyes for a final farewell. After the grave was covered, the funeral was over.
The whole process took no more than thirty minutes. When people left, just Chris and Scarlett were standing at the headstone.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmChloe loved roses when she was alive. Her only wish was to have a bouquet of roses placed at her tomb.
A bunch of red roses was placed in front of the tombstone, just below the picture of Chloe and her husband. In the picture, Chloe was smiling and Mr. Duke was gentle. The scarlet roses were just like their romantic love story.
After Chloe's funeral, Chris got more tough things to deal with.
Now that Chloe was gone, Kent and Orion had gone reckless. No one could constrain them anymore.
Chloe's only wish was to keep Ul intact.
Scarlett collected her thoughts. She reached out and took Chris’s hand. "Let's go hack." At her words, Chris looked down at her," OK." Before they left, Scarlett looked back at the picture of Chloe on the headstone again.
She couldn't help but think of that day at the airport, Chloe said to her, "Scarlett, | like you a lot. | hope you'll marry Chris.
Next tyou cto Bomsville, if I'm still alive, I'll take you skiing." But when Scarlett cback to Bomsville, Chloe was so sick that she couldn't take her skiing.
Although Scarlett had only met Chloe a few times, she felt at loss remembering what Chloe once said to her.
Scarlett withdrew her eyes and collected her thoughts. She followed Chris out of the cemetery.
People had to move on after all.
Just as they got back in the car, it started to rain.
"Go back to the villa," Chris said to the driver. Then he leaned back in the seat and didn't say another word.
The driver nodded his head and started the car and headed for the villa.
Forty-five minutes later, the car arrived at the villa.
Chris didn't get out of the car. He just opened his eyes and looked at Scarlett, "I have to go to the company. Go to have srest. TH cback to have dinner with you." Scarlett looked at him, "Go ahead. Take care of yourself." Then Scarlett gave him a gentle hug. "See you later." Scarlett got out of the car. She stood in front of the villa and watched as the car drove away. Then she turned around and entered the villa.
