Although he could change his innate skill in the future if he found a better one, doing so would result in the permanent loss of the replaced skill and its corresponding item.
In light of the fact that Raydon had already lost the majority of his items, he was unwilling to take the risk of parting with another item, especially one of a blue grade.
Raydon recited the name of the skill while standing up and holding the dagger in his hand.
''Shadow Passage. ''
In an instant, all of the world's colors vanished, and it became various shades of black and white instead.
'Have I entered another dimension?' Raydon briefly wondered, noticing the sudden shift, and he took a step towards the door of his room.
"Whoa!" Just like that, he found himself at his doorstep, back in the vibrant and colorful world.
Raydon exclaimed with ecstasy, "This skill is incredible, but I'll need some practice to use it to its fullest"
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtRaydon was only able to make a few steps of progress before he was pulled back out of the monochromatic realm, despite the fact that the description of the skill stated that it had a range of up to 30 meters. It became clear that this alternative dimension existed outside of the confines of normal space and time. As a result, he was able to traverse enormous distances in a single stride and move at an incredible speed.
The icing on the cake was the fact that he could effortlessly move through obstacles, almost as though he were teleporting.
"What's the deal with all these maids? " While Raydon was happily pondering how useful the skill was, he was taken aback to see that there were a lot more maids in the hallway than were required.
As soon as Raydon turned to face them, the maids quickly averted their gazes and pretended to be focused on the task at hand, which was cleaning the hall. However, their astonished and curious glances gave away their fascination with Raydon, who had just materialized out of the black smoke in the corridor.
Among them, Raydon also recognized the maid who had brought him his meal earlier, but he chose to disregard their presence.
"Shadow Passage," Raydon uttered the words, vanishing once again into the veil of black smoke, and reappearing in his room.
"While using this skill, my movement speed is quite impressive, and it will continue to get better as my agility stat improves. The one-second cooldown is also manageable. If I can find a sub-skill that reduces the cooldown, which I had before, I can employ this skill more rapidly and efficiently," Raydon contemplated, evaluating the skill's potential.
After giving it a lot of thought and performing some calculations, Raydon came to the conclusion that this skill was the one that should go in his innate skill slot.
"Let's see how it works," he said, opening the character panel and directing his attention to the innate skill slot.
[Innate Skill]: 0 / 1
*DING*
At a moment's notice, a system window appeared in front of him.
[Select a skill to add to the Innate skill slot.]
[Warning! The item to which the selected skill is attached will be permanently destroyed.]
Skill: Grim Blessing
Skill: Explosive Swarm
Skill: Death sense
Skill: Rusty chain
Skill: Shadow Passage
The options of various skills attached to his bound items appeared on the screen.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Hmm, it's quite straightforward," Raydon murmured.
Raydon heaved a sigh as he acknowledged the warning that the system had given him and said, "It's unfortunate that the item will disappear, but there's no alternative." The dagger had an impressive design, which unmistakably demonstrated its superior quality. Even if the item did not possess any skills, the dagger would still be valuable. However, Raydon had already made his decision and was willing to accept the consequence of permanently losing the item.
Then, Raydon uttered the skill's name once more, "Shadow Passage." As he did, a remarkable transformation occurred. The dagger he held in his hand began to morph, gradually turning into minuscule grains of black sand. After existing in the air for a split second, the sand particles vanished into thin air as if they had never been there.
*DING*
[Innate skill added.]
A notification from the system confirmed that the skill he had chosen to add to the innate skill slot had been successfully added.
[Innate Skill]: 1 / 1
-Shadow Passage
And in a matter of a few seconds, he had the first skill that he could freely use without being reliant on an item in any way.
"Wow, this feels... Different," Raydon murmured to himself, his voice tinged with a sense of awe.
In spite of the fact that nothing about his outward appearance changed as a result of his learning the innate skill, he was overpowered by an experience that cannot be adequately described using words. It was almost as if he had been blessed with a new organ in his body that served a new purpose, such as a mouth or a nose that he could use for talking or breathing, respectively.
During the time that Raydon was attempting to make sense of this experience, he suddenly disappeared into a cloak of dark smoke and then reemerged a mere meter away from where he had been standing, still shrouded in the same ethereal haze.
"Not much seems to have changed in the skill's attributes, except for the fact that I no longer need to chant its name to activate it," Raydon contemplated. He realized that he could now employ the skill at will, as effortlessly as moving a finger, without any notable enhancements to its inherent capabilities.
"Nevertheless, this is a significant advantage. In addition to that, I have gained one more active skill, bringing my total to six instead of five," Raydon exclaimed with glee. At this point, all that was required of him was to wait for the items Samuen had promised to deliver and fill the empty skill slot.
