Help! I don't want to NTR the protagonist!
Chapter 129 129. Meeting The Leaders (2)
Lucius sat down and looked at the people all around him.
It wasn't just him that sat down, Albert and Agrim sat down on either side next to him.
Bringing the total of people seated at the table to a grand total of five.
Lucius, Albert, Agrim, that fat chubby man and one other individual.
A well built man with brown haired man with an extremely average-looking face.
The man he'd a warm smile whenever Lucius looked at him but Lucius couldn't help but feel disgusted every time his eyes looked in his direction.
This was his biggest hurdle in claiming complete control within the revolutionary army and the biggest thorn in Lucius's side.
The leader of the Radical Faction within the revolutionary army, Damien.
Although Lucius, the son of the previous leader and also the current leader, he was in a semi-open power struggle with Damien and his position wasn't affected in the slightest, this was because if things came down to it Damien had contributed more than Lucius himself.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAlthough Sirius was known as the leader and founder of the revolutionary army, it couldn't be deemed as much of a revolution if it was just him by himself.
There were vital founding members that had been with him along every step of the way.
One such member was of course old Albert, the right hand man of Sirius Vexx and would give his life and everything he had to Sirius and his family. But if Albert could be deemed as his father's right hand then Damien was his left.
He would follow Sirius's orders with brutal efficiency and ferocity.
Although he didn't follow orders as absolutely and blindly as Albert and would often challenge Siriusb ut he still wholeheartedly believed that Sirius was the right man to lead the revolution.
His loyalty to the revolutionary cause was unquestionable.
That was the reason he was challenging Lucius for power in the first place.
Damien simply didn't believe that the young Lucius was the right man for the job
Although Lucius had been elected as de facto leader, Damien's opinion still didn't change.
Damien was the strongest fighter within the Revolutionary Army. Although it didn't hold a candle to the strength of Sirius in his prime, Damien even openly admitted that Lucius had the potential to completely blow him out of the water when he fully developed. His opinions on Lucius claiming leadership never changed
"Little Lucius, it's good to see you again. It's just been a few weeks and it seems like you've grown even more."
"Well Uncle Damien, people change and grow up. You can just ask Uncle Barton about all that."
Damien's eyes narrowed as he looked Lucius up and down but in the end he didn't say anything before turning towards Barton.
" Are you planning to side with Lucius now?"
Hearing this Barton just snorted.
"I'm just agreeing with him a little, is that now some egregious crime"
See, although Lucius managed to scare Barton, he knew most of it came from the sheer shock factor of Lucius's sudden change in aura.
Barton didn't really fear Lucius or Damien either. He didn't get to the place he was today if that was enough to truly strike fear Into him.
Although his faction wasn't the strongest by any means they could never be ignored and that's because they held the lifeline of the Revolution Army, the funds and supplies.
They hadn't always been around from the start but when they joined the revolutionary army that's the moment they went global.
Bribes , hidden bases, equipment, training soldiers and members all of it cost an astronomical sum of money and when your plan is to overthrow the current institution it was really hard to get
That's why the sponsorship of Barton, one of the richest businessmen in the empire and the leader of a powerful business consortium that spread across the entire continent, was essential. It said that the combined wealth of the consortium even surpasses some small countries . For a man with such power and wealth it was impossible for him to truly be afraid of Lucius or Damien besides he knew just how much the two needed him.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIn truth for someone as powerful and rich as Barton there was no need for them to join the revolutionary army there was only one reason.
Greed.
He had reached the limits a businessman could achieve.
It's said that a good soldier is one who aims to become a general
The same could be said about merchants. A truly excellent merchant can never be satisfied! Greed and ambition must run through their blood! The only way to earn more and control more would be to become a high ranking noble, But In this world that paid heavy attention to bloodlines and history it was impossible to rise up the ranks to high level noble unless your family had previously had high ranking noble blood in your body.
At best you could get some nominal knight rank or landless baron.
That could never Steele the greed of an ambitious merchant like Barton
If the empire knew that one of the richest businessmen was one of the pillars of the revolutionary army they would probably cough up a litre of blood!
Everyone knew of Barton's ambitions, even Sirius, his father, had told Lucius not to trust Barton too much and be cautious of him in all circumstances. But beggars can't be choosers
Lucius sat down at the table with the two ladies on either side standing behind him and stretched forth his hands
"I gathered us all here for one reason and that's to plan out our next action. The Revolutionary Army has been dormant for too long. I'm even hearing rumours that without Sirius the so called revolution is dead"
As Lucius said this there was a quite obvious wince from a few members.
The death of Sirius had left the organisation with a gaping wound that still hadn't properly healed even to this day.
