"Dad, can | go in to stay with Layla?" Ivy wanted to be there the moment Layla woke up.
Elliot nodded. "lvy, your mother thinks that we are in the wrong. If only we had agreed to them dating, they would have never
ended up here, nor would they have been in the disaster..."
"No one is wrong here, Dad," Ivy said. "If everyone can predict what happens next, there will be no accidents or disasters."
Elliot wasforted by her words.
"Dad, it's your responsibility to guide us and help us make the right decisions, and even if you have it wrong sometimes, we won't
blyou because no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. You are a great father to me, Dad."
Elliot pulled her into his arms. "lvy, I'm so grateful for how understanding you are."

"Dad, Layla won't be mad at you either," Ivy said confidently. "She toldthat she loves you and Mom a lot, so don't beat yourself
up."
"Okay. Go in!" Elliot let her go. "Once Layla wakes up, you can chat with her for a bit if she is up to it."
"Okay," Ivy said before entering the room.
She walked over to the bed and studied Layla's pale face. Though Layla was not dying, she had suffered severe frostbite.
The doctors had not put an IV cannula at the back of Layla's hand, and Ivy reached out to touch her hand.
Layla's hands were cold to the touch, so Ivy grabbed them and tried to warm them up.
Half an hour later, Layla woke up.
She had gotten enough sleep that she no longer felt so tired. She was just mentally exhausted.
"Layla." Ivy saw Layla open her eyes and gently said, "Layla, it's Ivy."
Layla looked at Ivy dazedly, wondering where her parents had gone.
"Robert sent Mom to the airport because she is going to Bridgedale to see Uncle Eric," Ivy explained. "She wants to see if there's
anything she can help with."
Layla nodded and said hoarsely, "Is he really still alive? Don't lie to me, Ivy..."
Layla remembered how Eric had stopped responding to her while they had been stuck on the mountain.

"I didn't see him, but if he had passed away, Mom would not have left for Bridgedale."
Tears welled in Layla's eyes as she recalled what took place on the mountain. "... | tried speaking to him, but he would not respond.
| touched my forehead against his, but he did not respond to that either... His face was turning blue, and he was ice-cold... |
thought that he was dead..."
"When the rescue team found him, they said he was dead because he wasn't breathing. We all thought he had died, and Mom
broke down. Luckily, his heart started beating again after the doctors treated him. | think they said that he had gone into shock."
Layla stopped sobbing at Ivy's words. "Ivy, do you want to know what his last words towere?" As she spoke, tears started to
roll down her cheeks again.
"What did he say?" Ivy asked.
"He toldto et about him because he thought that he was dying. He didn't wantto feel guilty for the rest of my life, so
he toldto et about him and live my life."
