As Silica came over to see him, Calian closed the curtain surrounding his bed. The reason he gave for not visiting her personally was that he was in sickbed and it was difficult for him to greet any guests.
Not long after, the smell of Ranieri spread throughout the room completely, and Calian spoke to Yan who was standing next to him.
“Open the windows please. My head hurts.”
To think our beautiful, flower-like prince’s head hurts!
Yan hurriedly opened the windows of every room and terrace. The Ranieri smell soon escaped through the windows. Silica bit her lower lip hard.
“So.”
After all the windows were opened, Calian’s voice was heard.
“For what business did you visit for today, Silica?”
Although Calian left the wrapping up of this incident to Allan and Rumein, Rumein left the decision of exchanging favours this time completely to Calian. As Calian had risked his life in this situation, Rumein meant that Calian should ask in return as much from Silica as he thinks that he deserves.
Silica stood there not speaking for a while, then leisurely went and sat at Calian’s sofa. Calian narrowed his brow at her arrogant behaviour, but he didn’t go as far to tell her to get back up.
Soon, Silica opened her mouth.
“It looks like the mage union has been quite busy for a while.”
Calian laughed without a sound. His laugh wasn’t because it was funny, but more because of the absurdity of her words.
He heard about everything that happened after he fainted from Yan. Therefore, he knew exactly that she was at an extreme disadvantage right now.
Of course, he didn’t expect her to kneel down in front of him and grovel as soon as she entered, but he didn’t think she would come out this confidently to him.
Calian wiped the smile off his face as he answered.
“You say such strange things.”
Hearing him, Silica’s eyebrows turned sharply. It was because exactly one week ago, it was what Silica said to Calian.
Silica had no words to speak for a while. Calian kept waiting for her to speak, then eventually gave a short sigh. He had been unconscious for a week, and after waking up he was reported about everything that happened until now, and not even 30 minutes later he was talking with an unwelcome guest.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtTherefore he was not in the perfect state he wished he was in to talk with the guest. Calian spoke again with a quite tired voice.
“Thanks to your consideration, I was able to rest for quite a while.”
As if she remembered what happened to Calian that day, Silica lowered her gaze down to the skirt of her dress for a bit.
“But I almost ended up resting until I was in hell. So I think it will be hard for me to talk to you face to face for too long today.”
“… One at a time.”
Finally, Silica opened her mouth. She never thought even in her dreams that she would be saying this to anyone much less to Calian of all people, so her voice was faintly shaky as she spoke.
“How about we exchange favours one at a time.”
“It would have been better for the both of is you had said those words one week prior,”
Calian slowly shook his head. Of course, Silica wouldn’t have been able to see him shaking his head beyond the curtain, so he added words to explain to her.
“I heard that there were more crowds than I expected. I don’t know what to do.”
After a few moments, Calian leaned his back against the head of his bed and spoke.
“First, let’s hear what you have prepared.”
A more laid back voice than usual flowed out of his mouth.
Silica made an expression that looked like she was swallowing something bitter. She then tried her best to hide the fact that she was forcing herself to speak as she told Calian what she had wanted.
“The documents… if what is written in those documents is declared false then I will not oppose to the division being prepared by his majesty,”
Silica heard a small laugh from beyond the curtain. Calian spoke with a smile still on his face, poking directly at Silica’s weakness.
“I’ve heard that the list of possible candidates for the majesty’s concubine had been sent to him. But whether it was really for only concubines, or perhaps, a new queen, I still do not know. Did you know about this?”
Silica bit hard on her lips. The storm that hit the city of Kyrisis was bigger than she thought. Silica was in a much deeper jail than Calian predicted that she would be in.
It was more difficult to get her out of this situation, even if she was the one who created the foundation of the magic division.
Therefore, Calian’s mind changed as well.
“And in the first place, he does not need the Queen’s permission to create armies. Please ask for a different exchange of favours instead.”
Silica didn’t answer. It was because she didn’t bring anything else than the magic division. On top of that, his answer is probably already set in stone already, so Silica spoke through gritted teeth.
“Then tell me what it is that you want.”
Calian didn’t need to delay his wish any further, and spoke as he nodded his head.
“In this land ruled by the descendants of the Sispanian, it wouldn’t be right to hear the sounds of swords clashing so close by.”
She couldn’t even imagine what he was going to say next.
Silica gazed with an uncomfortable expression at Calian’s bed. Inside, his still calm and relaxed voice continued to speak.
“Please disband the Pavel Knights.”
Pavel!?
Silica kicked up onto her feet in shock.
Originally, the royal guard knights for the Kyrisis royal family were only Raon and Kaela.
The Pavel knights were given by the Brisson Marquis to Silica as a gift with the purpose of keeping the royal guard knights Kaela, also called the ‘King’s Sword’, in check.
So what Calian meant was for Silica to hand over her sword to Calian. ‘As I had betted my life for it, wouldn’t it be fair for me to take the opponent’s sword?’ was what he thought.
As he didn’t care to know how surprised Silica was, Calian spoke once again to make sure she heard it correctly. It was a very firm voice that gave no space for her to retaliate.
“Breakup of the Pavel knights. Establishment of the magic division.”
He heard the sound of a folded fan breaking under strain. Calian added with a more light hearted voice.
“And take back your maid that you assigned to me as well.”
Silica’s face became pale white. Calian sat back and gave Silica a long time to think about it. Then after a long test of patience, Silica slowly sat back down as she answered.
“…I will do so.”
A long crescent formed on Calian’s lips.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmInstead of Calian checking again if Silica was serious in what she said, he looked right to Yan and spoke.
“Bring it to her.”
“Yes, your highness.”
As if he had been waiting for the command the whole time, Yan quickly took the object that was on top of the bedside table and left the bedroom. He then brought the object to Silica and handed it to her.
It was a contract that had the Seal of Oath.
The contents of what was promised would be engraved on each other’s hearts, and if one were to break the contract binding, the magic would constrict their heart. That was the magic that was put on the contract.
Yan could see Silica scowl as she saw the contract paper. Whether it’s surprise from seeing how prepared Calian was, or whether it was because of how much she hated the contents of the contract, or whether it was the combination of the two was unclear. Whichever it was, Calian wouldn’t care anyways.
Calian spoke as if this was a natural procedure.
“As the trust between you and I is not quite strong after all.”
Silica closed her eyes and gave a long sigh, then signed the contract. As she did so, all of the letters that were about what she had to keep promise of started to shine and float into the air. The letters then formed a long singular line and travelled up Silica’s arms and disappeared. It was going towards her heart. Of course, the same constraint was put on Calian as well.
Finally finishing the business she came here for, Silica stood up looking completely emaciated compared to a week before and began to walk out. Calian opened his mouth.
“Ah. I’m going to say this because I think you’re misunderstanding that the relationship between us brothers was better than you thought.”
Silica stopped at her feet. However, she did not turn her head towards his bed.
“Franz didn’t say what he said to help me.”
The root of the reason why Silica was pushed into this situation, the words that were spoken in the banquet hall. Remembering the feeling of betrayal she got from her own son, Silica’s eyes glowed coldly. Calian was able to feel that even from beyond the curtain, and he clicked his tongue.
“You’re talking about something that is not very interesting.”
“If only you said just one more thing at that point.”
Rumein would have lost even more sense of reasoning then she would have thought.
And how would his wrath take form?
“The king’s sword would have beheaded you right then and there, your highness.”
Silica, who was standing without saying a single word, walked out one step at a time.
Just in case you’re confused, remember that Calian’s room is like an open-plan apartment with curtains around his bedroom area and bathroom areas – So Calian is sat on his bed with his curtains drawn as this was the norm for when a person is sick during those times. That means when Silica and Calian are talking, they can’t see each other very clearly due to curtains.
And yes, their ending comments are a little vague even in the Korean Raws, that’s just how royalty talk I guess?
