Briana smiled. “In that case, what's there left for us to discuss?” In response, Jonathan asked, “I'm curious about one thing.
Who are you, exactly? Are you Orcus? Does the god of the underworld really exist? Also, isn't Orcus a figure from western mythology? I'm pretty sure he isn't well known on our side of the world.” “You're free to believe whatever you want.” Briana shook her head.
“It's not like | can escape from you all, and I'm getting a little bored. So why not tell me before | die?” A faint smile appeared on Briana's face. “I suppose it's unsurprising that Otto was defeated by you, considering how composed you still are in this situation.” To that, Jonathan asked, “Speaking of Otto, I'm even more intrigued now. You lot claimed you came from Eonetara.
But why do people from Eonetara need Otto to swindle money from mortals?” Briana explained, “Do you think we prefer the fake money
that's used as an offering to the dead over real money? It's not like we can use those fake money as legal tender just because you burned them.” With a wave of his hand, Jonathan replied, “I didn't think so.
I'm aware the world venerates many mysterious things we don't know exist, but | doubt the underworld or Six Paths of Reincarnation are real. The cycle of life and death is a part of the Heavenly Law. Any animal or plant won't question their death, yet humans believe they won't die and can ‘come back to life through the Six Paths of Reincarnation.
Why is that? Do they think that humans perform the most altruistic deeds?” “Humans are the smartest species in the world that's also capable of evil. The pollution of the planet, the destruction of life, and the annihilation of the ecologies were all done by human hands, are they not?” “A single intelligent human may be able to do good things, but thousands or even tens of thousands of smart people would naturally cause unimaginable harm. It's predictable. |
also Kill people, and | also eat chickens. What about you? Do you dare claim that you're a good person?” Briana stared at Jonathan in shock. He may be young, but he's very wise and has a sharp tongue! Then, she uttered, “Don't you think it's a little childish to talk about morality?” “Let's not talk about it, then. Who are you?” “I'm afraid | can't tell you that,” came Briana's response.
“Actually, we can make an exchange. While I've killed Otto and ruined your plan, I'm far more capable than Otto in terms of making money. You should be able to tell that | have this ability.” “Yes, you are indeed more capable than Otto. Sadly, | know what kind of person you are, and you'll never be of use to me. If | let you go, you'll report what happened to Richard.” “You're afraid of Master Richard?” Instead of waiting for Briana to answer, Jonathan smiled and continued, “I suppose that makes sense. If you had such a hard time
dealing with me, then there's no way you can defeat Master Richard. Is this all Eonetara is capable of?” Rage flashed past Briana's eyes. “What do you know? The way we do things is naturally different from the overworld.” “So you're saying the underworld exists? Where is it?" “You don't need to try to bait me to talk. If there's an overworld, then there's an underworld; if there's a man, then there's a woman. It's just the natural state of the Heavenly Law.” “Then why do you lot want Otto to swindle money? Your organization should have plenty of envoys and has accumulated a huge fortune. Am | right?” Jonathan confronted, “What are you all planning to do?” In response, Briana glared coldly at him. “You ask too many questions. The more you know, the quicker you'll die.” She paused before adding, “I think you should just continue to enjoy your time loop.” A glint flittered across Jonathan's eyes as he smirked.
“What if | kill you?”
“You'll only kill Briana and not me.” Jonathan's heart sunk because he knew it was true.
Just then, Tate and Lyle brought the wet, injured Dante inside.
When the first two saw Jonathan, they were slightly surprised and asked, “Ms. Yarbrough, this man is —" Briana responded frigidly, “I don't know him!" Alook of surprise flashed past Tate and Lyle's eyes, but they kept quiet. They thought Jonathan and Briana were lovers. When their assumption was proven wrong, they felt awkward.
Following that, Tate and Lyle helped bandaged Dante while Jonathan watched coldly from the side.
Concurrently, the weather was starting to change.
The storm had arrived again.
Jonathan stepped toward the deck and jumped into the
ocean without care.
If this is a dream, | don't know what | need to do to wake up. However, there's no way I'll walk down the same path again.
As he drowned in the ocean, he stopped resisting.
An unbearable sensation arose in his chest. Suffocation feels awful! As he sucked in plenty of seawater, he gradually lost consciousness.
Awhile later, Jonathan woke up and saw bright sunlight.
“You've finally woken up, Mr. Lawson,” Dante remarked.
Upon opening his eyes, Jonathan saw Dante, Tate, and Lyle.
Sitting up, he realized he was on the Liberty's deck.
“Why am | here?” he questioned.
A sigh of relief escaped Dante's mouth. “Yesterday, a small storm appeared and destroyed our ship. It was a terrible day. My plane was wrecked, and the ship was decimated afterward. We thought you were dead, but after the storm
passed, we saw you floating in the ocean. We checked your breathing and realized you were still alive. So, we placed you on the ruined ship until we found this bigger ship and relocated you here.” Jonathan felt his head throbbing as a wave of helplessness washed over him. It seems like | really can't escape this time loop at all! The first thing he did after he got up was to find the gun in the restroom.
However, there was no gun there because his clone had already taken it.
What was about to happen was that his clone would Kill Tate and the others before dying by drowning in the sea.
It's still the same time loop! Jonathan spaced out for a moment in the restroom before running toward the guardrail on the other side of the deck.
Then, he stared at the vast, deep ocean.
The sea shimmered as sunlight landed on its surface.
The view from the ship was fantastic, but Jonathan wasn't in the mood to enjoy its beauty.
He no longer wanted to end his life by jumping into the ‘ocean anymore because he didn't want to go through the horrendous experience of suffocation again.
In just a single day, he had died twice already.
It wasn't a true death, of course, but it felt worse than death.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWhat do you want me to do? Jonathan couldn't help but yell in his mind.
Of course, no one was going to reply to him.
It was then he heard a shriek.
Jonathan didn't need to look to know that Tate, Lyle, and Dante were being attacked by his clone.
Without delay, Jonathan rushed toward the back of the deck and saw the mountain of bodies from before.
His clone threw Tate's and Lyle's corpses to the ground
before smiling at Jonathan and jumping into the ocean to die.
Everything happened exactly as Jonathan remembered.
Therefore, he knew the same group of people was about to board the ship and repeat the same set of events.
Knowing what would happen again, he didn't want to interact with them a second time and speedily searched for the lifeboat. Then, Jonathan boarded the lifeboat and sailed out to the sea.
At least | don't need to think about those messy things for now. | could certainly use some peace and quiet. He lay on the vessel as the boat drifted into the ocean.
Lifting his head, he saw a blue sky and white clouds. The weather was sunny.
Then, Jonathan thought about the story of a man who wondered if he was inside a dream of a butterfly.
He couldn't help but relate to the absurdity of the story as
he pondered his surreal, dream-like reality.
Where am |? What am | experiencing? Am | already dead? Am | just a ghost drifting in the sea? | hope someone can answer me, but | doubt that wish of mine will come true.
‘When Jonathan's train of thought ended, he closed his eyes and slept instead of thinking.
Not long after, he really did fall asleep.
He dreamed of himself arriving on the shores of Horington before stepping onto land and riding inside a taxi to find ‘Yasmin and Jessica. The dream also included him meeting Jennifer again.
It showed him that he had escaped the horrible time loop, and it made him feel very happy.
Sadly, Jonathan still woke up after a certain amount of time had passed.
The moment he awoke, he felt as though he was encased in ice because he was still on the lifeboat and stuck in the time loop.
His current location made him feel as though he was cut off from the rest of the world and that no one would come to his rescue.
Sitting up again, he saw the Liberty. The vessel was sailing in his direction like a ghost ship.
Jonathan hadn't drunk any water for a long time. Thus, his lips were cracking. With a resigned smile, he lay down and ignored the Liberty.
Time was still, yet he was suffering in that stillness because his thoughts were able to roam free.
Even if he continued to struggle, Orcus wasn't going to suffer.
In their eyes, his attempt was meaningless.
The only one in pain was him.
Taking in a deep breath, Jonathan decided he wanted to converse with Orcus again.
Thus, he ultimately sneaked back into the Liberty.
The only way he could reset the loop was by killing Tate,
Lyle, Dante, and himself.
Otherwise, he would only be rescued if he tried offing himself by drowning in the sea.
Of course, one could suggest that he try other methods to kill himself instead of jumping into the sea. For example, chopping his own head off.
However, no one would have the bravery to do that.
Scenes like that would only occur in movies or television shows.
Upon boarding Liberty, Jonathan started hunting down his targets.
The first to die was Lyle.
After he found the gun, he shot Tate and Dante before dragging their corpses to the deck.
It was then he saw his clone sprinting toward him.
History was repeating itself.
Suddenly, Jonathan felt like he was being absurd. Why do | think he's the clone? Maybe from the clone's perspective, I'm the clone.
Those thoughts didn't bother him for long as he approached the rail guard and shot himself.
He and the gun fell into the sea together.
Endless darkness devoid of any sensations cradled him.
After an unknown amount of time passed, Jonathan returned to his senses.
He abruptly opened his eyes.
“Are you awake, Mr. Lawson?” Dante's voice entered his ear again. “We're in Horington's airspace right now. We'll be able to find Briana soon enough.” As expected, Jonathan was back on the plane again.
“Don't search for Briana anymore. Just land at Horington,” he hastily ordered.
In response, Dante shot him an odd look. “You don't want to look for Briana anymore?”
“No.” “Okay then.” Soon after Dante started shifting the controls, his expression changed drastically.
“What's the matter?” Jonathan asked.
“There's a bit of an issue with the plane. We can't turn back.” Dante paused before continuing, “We need to find Briana as soon as possible so we can borrow their yacht to return.” Hearing that made Jonathan feel extremely exhausted.
“Can't you contact ground control and request assistance?” Light glinted in Dante's eyes. “Of course | can.” Without delay, he tried making the call.
Moments later, he informed, baffled, “Huh? There's no signal. | can't make the call.” A sigh escaped Jonathan's lips. It seems like there's no
getting out of this.
The plane continued flying forward in the darkness of night.
Some time passed before the plane circled above Briana's yacht.
Both Jonathan and Dante got off the plane because it was malfunctioning, and they couldn't make the trip back to land. Therefore, Dante concluded it would be safer for him to board the yacht with Jonathan.
Already familiar with his surroundings, Jonathan navigated into the living room and saw Briana in her wedding gown once more.
Her crimson outfit appeared quite eerie in the night.
Sitting in front of Briana, Jonathan asked, “Tell me. What exactly do you lot want? Do you desire my death? If you do, why not make it quicker?” Dante stared at Jonathan, flabbergasted. He couldn't understand why the latter was saying something like that.
What's going on with you, Mr. Lawson?”
Jonathan ignored Dante and gazed intently at Briana.
In response, she said, “Didn't | tell you already? You offended Orcus. Hence, you must accept his punishment.
‘You need to keep stacking stones on top of a mountain.
Once ten thousand stones are gathered, they'll be pushed down the mountain, and you will repeat the process again for eternity.” Rubbing his nose, Jonathan responded, “If you put it like that, it sounds like Orcus is quite the boring guy for playing this childish game with me every day.” Briana glanced at him wordlessly.
Resignation filled his heart before he suddenly asked, “Why are you making Briana wear that clothing?” She replied flatly, “I can't tell you that.” “Are Dante, Tate, and Lyle real or just illusions?” “I can't tell you that.” Unable to suppress his anger any further, Jonathan snapped. He jumped to his feet and kicked the table.
It didn't take long for the room to become a mess.
“D*mn you! What can you tell me, then?” Jonathan roared.
The conversation confounded Dante. “What do you mean by that, Mr. Lawson? | don't understand what's going on.” Promptly, Jonathan turned to Dante with bloodshot eyes.
The sight of his crazed expression frightened Dante. Taking in a deep breath, Jonathan tried stifling his fury. He's innocent. | can't take my anger out on him.
Briana spoke plainly. “If you can still shout like that, it means you haven't suffered enough. The end will come when you learn to hide your emotion. The storm's about to arrive. | hope you continue to enjoy your time loop.” Before she could do anything, Jonathan stepped forward and grabbed her wrist tightly. “You're not getting away this time.” “I never did. In this time loop, Briana will fall into the ocean and drown. Did you think the time loop Orcus made has errors in it?”
Upon hearing that, Jonathan released her hand dejectedly.
It was then Tate and Lyle entered the room.
“Not good! A storm's about to arrive! Everyone, prepare to abandon ship,” Tate urged. He was surprised to see Jonathan and Dante because Briana was supposed to be the only person on the ship.
Hearing the grim news, Dante was shocked. “I'll join you two.” He thought Jonathan and Briana were lunatics.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAs for Jonathan, he was spacing out because he was genuinely tired.
The persistent time loop truly was an endless torture for him.
| can't struggle or escape from this time loop! Stepping out of the living room, he arrived on the deck.
Rain was pouring down violently and was accompanied by a brutal gale.
In a blink of an eye, Jonathan was completely drenched.
Subsequently, a huge wave crashed into the yacht and tipped it over.
He was thrown into the boundless, icy ocean, feeling as though he couldn't find the light at the end of the tunnel.
An extremely nasty pain was present in his chest as he suffocated.
Jonathan wanted to sleep, but he knew that even if he did, he couldn't escape the fate of being tortured.
That d*mned Orcus! He's playing me like a fiddle! He's an evil person, so there's nothing wrong with my attempt to kill him. In other words, he doesn't represent justice, so why should I surrender? | won't! If the sky wants to crush me, I'll split it in two! If the earth wants to bind me, I'll shatter it into pieces! As he roared in his mind, his spiritual energy soared.
At that moment, he was filled with an indomitable will to survive.
Out of nowhere, he felt the sea water shaking.
In fact, everything around him was shaking.
Good! Everything is indeed an illusion! Break!” Jonathan growled as he unleashed all of his Great Sage Force Field and will to fight.
Aterrifying and dauntless aura exploded from his body.
It was then he opened his eyes and sat up.
Promptly, he realized he was inside a room of absolute darkness.
There was no ocean around him, meaning he had successfully escaped the time loop.
Concurrently, the light inside was turned on, illuminating the room.
Jonathan surveyed his surroundings and noticed Briana, Tate, Lyle, and Dante were around him.
They were sitting cross-legged in a circle with him at the center. Their eyes were shut tight.
“Why am | here?” When he tried to remember what had transpired, he abruptly recalled everything. | think it started from the day | visited Joanne with Mabel. After they headed to Yaleview on a private plane, | bade Johanna goodbye and stayed in a hotel, which was the last thing | could remember. This means I've never woken up since | was inside the hotel. | get it now. That was a dream. While Briana, Tate, Lyle, and Dante appeared in the dream, they are real people. Orcus must've been the one who created the dream. It wasn't a punishment; it was just a construct created from energy.
When he tried to leave the bed he was sleeping on, Jonathan felt strained and weak, as though he was drugged.
With his current physique, the number of elixir pills he consumed, and his blood cleansed by the Supreme Nascent Pill, not many drugs could affect him.
After further internal probing, he realized he was hungry.
His body wasn't getting the energy it needed, which was why he felt weak.
This means I've been trapped inside this room for a very long time. As for how long, | don't know yet.
Jonathan speedily searched for his phone, but it was nowhere to be found.
Thus, his plan to contact Mabel was rendered impossible.
Taking in a deep breath, he believed he needed to leave as soon as he could.
Just as he prepared to get off the bed, the door was opened.
An old man in black clothing stepped into the room with two young men following behind him.
The old man seemed odd in his black robe. His eyebrows were white, and there was a sharp look in his eyes.
Wrinkles were seen all over his face.
Jonathan couldn't help but be shocked when he saw the old man because he could sense the old man's cultivation level was absurdly high.
In fact, he was fairly certain the old man was as powerful as YYareth and definitely more powerful than Mabel. If Master Richard is here with me right now, maybe we'll be able to take down this old man.
His attention then shifted to the two young men behind the elder. Their cultivation level is that of a Divine Master! This is the first time | feel like there are so many experts around! But why? Any one of them could've ended my life easily.
Why go through all this trouble? Confused, Jonathan gazed at the old man and asked instinctively, “Who are you people?” At the moment, Briana and the others were still asleep.
Staring coldly at Jonathan, the old man responded, “Haven't you guessed it already?” He paused before resuming, “I've really underestimated you, brat. You actually shattered the Void Domain.” “You're with Otto and Eonetara?” Shock was present in Jonathan's voice.
“That's right!”
“What do you all want? It would've been a piece of cake for you to kill me. So why are you doing all this?" “It's easy to Kill you, yes, but you have something we want.
For example, your destiny and luck. Originally, if you were trapped inside the dream for three days and then surrendered to despair, the luck within you would leak out of your body. If that had happened, we would be able to absorb your luck and take your destiny. We didn't expect you to be able to crush the Void Domain.” Jonathan sneered, “I'm the Chosen One ordained by the heavens. There's no way you can just steal my destiny like that. Do you think you're more powerful than the Heavenly Law?”
