Chapter 203 The Fall of Quezon City
After the rescue mission, the army marched towards Quezon City to attack the zombie horde. According to the latest intel sent by the drones and scouting teams, the horde has already reached a staggering number of 1,200,000 zombies. Furthermore, the number of unique zombies was also increasing.
Twenty Black Dragon Assault Helicopters flew into the sky, while the soldiers marched behind the battle tanks.
This time, Arlan wanted to be on the battlefield, but Lieutenant General Rivera rejected him right away. He told Arlan that it was too dangerous for him to join the battle. In the end, the two reached a compromise. Arlan would board one of the Black Dragon Assault Helicopters and lead the aerial force. Their goal was to eliminate the unique zombies in the horde and also support the ground units.
Arlan was seated on the co-pilot seat, looking at the feedback from the drones. He could monitor the movements of the horde through the drones. "How did they increase so much in just a day?" He frowned. He believed that there was something out there that promoted the growth of the zombies, but no matter how he looked at the situation below, he didn't find anything unusual.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Black Dragon Assault Helicopters bombarded the horde with projectiles, resulting in multiple explosions that burned thousands of zombies into ashes. The firepower of the assault helicopters stunned the ground units. More than half of these soldiers were once part of Maharlika's army and they had never seen such a strong assault helicopter. Maharlika Air Force also had some assault helicopters, but they were garbage compared to the Black Dragon Assault Helicopter.
Arlan's face remained cold as he watched the city being devoured by flames. He had already discussed this with the commanding general and the acting president. The destruction of the city was inevitable. The entirety of its population was already infected and they had to eradicate the horde since they were a huge threat to the shelter.
While the aerial force was bombing the zombies, the ground units had also joined the fray. Twenty battle tanks led the army, firing their tank guns towards the zombies.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
There were snipers positioned on top of the buildings, sniping the most dangerous zombies in the horde. Their targets were mostly Spitter-type zombies and Tank-type zombies. They only needed one shot to kill Spitter-type zombies, but Tank-type zombies were more durable. They had to shoot them a couple of times to eliminate them.
While the snipers were holding the Spitter-type zombies and Tank-type zombies, the Hunter-type zombies charged fearlessly towards the soldiers. They were like nimble cats as they moved with lightning speed.
A few Hunter-type zombies managed to get close to the soldiers.
Seeing them, Sigurd who was leading the vanguard immediately grabbed his sword to attack them. "Melee Units, kill the Hunter-type zombies!" He shouted.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtOne hundred soldiers dressed in exoskeleton armor walked out of the formation and followed Sigurd into battle. Each of them held a 1.5-meter-long sword and a cargonite shield.
These soldiers were Sigurd's subordinates. There were only a hundred of them, but they were the best warriors in the entire army. Each of them was injected with the Body Enhancing Serum so they were like real-life Captain America. They possessed strong combat power and sharp senses.
They were like harbingers of death as they culled the lives of the Hunter-type zombies.
With the protection of their exoskeleton armor and cargonite shield, the Hunter-type zombies couldn't inflict any damage on them.
Under the protection of the melee unit, no Hunter-type zombie could hurt the main unit.
Meanwhile, Arlan suddenly received a report from the scouting unit. "Boss, we have located the General-type zombies. I will send you their location."
"Quick! Let me see!" Arlan's eyes lit up and he quickly opened the message sent by the scouting unit. After seeing the pinned location, he immediately told the pilot about this. He also informed the aerial force to search for the remaining two General-type zombies.
"Destroy it!" Arlan shouted as he looked at the General-type zombie through the screen. It was surrounded by more than ten Tank-type zombies that acted as its shields.
Arlan was alarmed when he saw such formation on the zombie horde. This made him realize that General-type zombies were capable of thinking.
"Yes, boss!"
A missile was fired towards the location of the General-type zombie.
Swoosh!
Booom!
Soon, the area was enveloped in flames, and thousands of zombies were killed on the spot. A few hundred zombies managed to survive, but they were all covered in flames.
Ratatatatatata!
Ratatatatatata!
The assault helicopters fired their machine guns and killed the scattering zombies.
The location of the two remaining General-type zombies was soon discovered and they were also bombed by the aerial force.
The bombing resulted in the death of more than a hundred thousand zombies and with the death of the General-type zombies, the zombie horde scattered across the city with no clear direction.
"Don't let them get away! Kill them all!" Arlan shouted through the radio. They had to eradicate the horde down to the last zombie.
The battle lasted for almost half a day and it was already nighttime when it finally concluded.
The soldiers cheered as they triumphantly raised their weapons in midair. In today's battle, the ten thousand-man army killed over a million zombies! However, the smart ones knew that this would be impossible without their advanced weapons. Just the aerial force alone eliminated a third of the zombie horde.
While the soldiers were cheering in excitement, Arlan had a solemn look on his face. He failed to uncover the reason for the zombies' fast growth. This made him uncomfortable.
When the helicopter landed, Arlan jumped out.
"Boss!" The soldiers greeted him respectfully. Everyone highly appreciated this leader who had joined them in battle.
"At ease." Arlan waved his hand at them as he walked towards Sigurd.
"Boss!" Sigurd saluted.
"Is there anyone injured among your subordinates?" Arlan asked. Sigurd's melee unit fought the hardest battle. They were exposed to danger at all times and they had to fight the zombies at close range. It wouldn't be impossible if some of them were killed during the battle.
Sigurd shook his head. "Fortunately, no one is injured. The zombies couldn't even scratch our exoskeleton armor and cargonite shields." He proudly stated. The soldiers standing behind him held their heads high upon hearing this.
Arlan nodded his head. This wasn't unexpected. The exoskeleton armor and cargonite shield were both products from the future. Their durability and flexibility are way beyond compared to the protective armor created by mankind. "Good job! However, you shouldn't treat the enemies lightly. You guys managed to come out unscathed because of your protective gears, but what if we encounter stronger foes in the future?" He stared at Sigurd with narrowed eyes.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSigurd was surprised by his words. He realized that he had been too arrogant so he quickly apologized. "I apologize, boss! I promise that I will exercise caution in the coming battles!"
Arlan was pleased by his words. "I will remember your words. Inform the soldiers to search the entire city for survivors. If you find anyone, bring them back to the shelter."
"Yes, boss!"
Only Quezon City was largely affected by the battle, the rest of Quezon Province was still fine. They still haven't checked the entirety of Quezon Province so there might be some lucky survivors waiting to be rescued.
Arlan returned to the shelter to report the victory to the acting president.

Somewhere in Quezon Province, a middle-aged man was hiding inside his home together with his wife and two children. Their house was located high up in the mountains so they could see the situation of the province.
"Is that the army?" His thirteen-year-old son asked nervously.
The middle-aged man frowned upon seeing the burning city. The glorious Quezon City was covered in flames and explosions rang out from time to time. "It looks like Quezon City has already fallen. The army wouldn't bomb the city if there were survivors. Perhaps, everyone in the city already turned into zombies." He muttered.
"Then will they come here and rescue us?" His wife held his arm and asked him worriedly. They were a family of farmers and they were lucky enough to have some stock of grains and farm crops. They didn't have to worry about food so their family managed to survive. Furthermore, the houses here were too far apart and only a few people were infected with the zombie virus.
The middle-aged man held his wife's trembling hands and said. "We just need to wait for them. I believe that they will come here soon."
"I hope so." His wife didn't feel too hopeful.
Growl! Growl!
Suddenly, they heard beast-like growls outside their home. Their faces fell when they heard those sounds. They knew that zombies were here again. In the last few days, some zombies passed by their home, but they didn't notice their family so they remained safe.
The middle-aged man made a 'shushing' gesture as he grabbed a machete from the table. He then slowly walked towards the other side of their house and looked at the situation outside through the gaps in the wall.
He saw more than ten zombies walking around and their faces looked familiar. He realized that these zombies were their neighbors! He almost dropped the machete upon seeing them. 'Jesus Christ!' He exclaimed in fear.
