"This is one massive desert." Compass Carburettor frowned, having been travelling around the desert by using his Mecha to turn into a jet. Using the speed and flight advantage, he spent the next two weeks scouring through it, scouting the surrounding terrain.
It was then that he understood just what this place was, "There was a sea here before. But, the moment the apocalypse stuck, it dried up for some reason as every living being here died."
After so much scouting, he finally recognised this place based on the map of the world that he had seen before. It was an inland sea, spanning a length of 700 kilometres and a breadth of 550 kilometres, sporting a shape similar to an amoeba.
He still was unable to digest the changes it had experienced, for, in the short span of two months, the seawater had vanished while what was present now was just a desert. And, due to the harsh weather and violent winds, sand covered the corals and skeletons of the fishes that were once part of the sea.
Once Compass Carburettor began to dig into them, he found orbs and pearls buried deep within the sand. Though, most of them seemed to have originated from one-horned mutated fishes.
Whenever he had the time, he picked up the pearls from the ground, easily filtering out the sand by shaping his energy blade accordingly. The ability of Mecha allowed him to construct machinery out of his energy blade, perfect for most operations.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAnd, once harvested, he fed them to Golda, converting them into Mental Energy. Consuming the pearls was hundreds of times more efficient than drinking the nutrient solution.
After a couple of days in this fashion, Compass Carburettor created a simple apparatus through his energy blade by using the trait of the Apocalypse Pearl.
It was nothing more than a rod attached to a rotating shaft. Compass Carburettor sat before it, using his energy blade to make the rod face vertically upwards, joining his hands together in a praying motion as he concentrated fully, removing a small defence in his Mental Energy Form.
He then prayed, 'Coincidental Luck System, I need to verify something with you. If you can understand my thoughts, then move the rod my way. if you don't wish to communicate with me, then move it in the other direction.'
He constantly repeated the same thoughts in a loop, praying continuously. After two hours passed in such a fashion, the winds around him became a tad stronger, affecting the rod, coincidentally moving it his way.
'If it's actually you, then move it in the opposite direction this time.' He said, watching the winds coincidentally move the rod the other way.
Smiling in response, Compass Carburettor thought after positioning the rod vertically upwards once again, 'Has that Elf bastard targeted you before?'
There was a pause before the winds grew stronger, causing the rod to slam his way into the ground. The intensity displayed the Coincidental Luck System's anger at the Elf.
Making it face vertically upwards, he asked next, 'How many times did it kill Rhizen? If it's below ten, make it face my way. If it's above that, make it face the other way.'
For a good whole minute after that, there was no reaction before the rod slowly bent, gradually facing the other way, causing Compass Carburettor to shudder, "It has killed Rhizen more than ten times?"
'This Elf is more terrifying than I had thought.' He sighed before thinking of Rhizen, communicating as his thoughts turned into Mental Energy and flowed into Rhizen.
The Coincidental Luck System processed his thoughts behind the Mental Energy stream, hence able to understand what he was expressing. This was how they were able to communicate. After being in the desert, he had realised that this was a feasible way.
Before, he thought he couldn't talk with the Coincidental Luck System. But with the Elf's arrival, he had to do something about his current situation. That was when this thought struck him.
He then expressed himself, 'Let's consider an angle of ninety degrees of the rod to be a thousand kilometres. How far is the Elf from my current position?'
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHe asked this because the Coincidental Luck System should have the means to calculate their positions through Luck or something. As a Grade 1 System that had almost reached its peak, it should have been versatile in using its abilities to accomplish practically anything.
He placed the rod facing himself, treating it as angle zero, watching faint winds flow around him as the rod began to move upwards, slowly stopping at an angle that equated to around 600 kilometres.
"I guess that's far enough." He nodded before getting up, condensing a compass in his hands. Design-wise, it was the same, but the needle within wasn't magnetic. After all, it was created using his Darlac energy blade and solidified using the trait of Permanence.
Moreover, there were two needles as Compass Carburettor explained about it to the Coincidental Luck System.
'The longer needle is to point in the Elf's direction. And, the shorter needle is to show the distance between it and me. When it faces 12'o clock, it means the Elf is beyond 1000 kilometres from my location. And when it faces 6'o clock, it means the Elf is near me.'
'And, if it moves from 12'0 clock to 6'0 clock, it means the Elf is moving towards my location. And, if the needle moves from 6'o clock to 12'0 clock, it means the Elf is moving away from me. This way, I'll be aware of its position all along and would be able to prepare accordingly.' He smiled, 'Also, to change the position of the two needles, the amount of luck necessary would be so small it'll be impossible for the other luck Systems to detect, right?'
The rod moved in his direction, proving that his conjecture was the truth. Moreover, the two needles in the compass moved, showing the Elf's direction and distance between the two.
"It's done," He laughed, feeling a bit relaxed before saying, 'Also, if there is an emergency, please spin both the needles. The faster they spin, the more urgent they are.'
The rod pointed at him again, a sign that the Coincidental Luck System was okay with his arrangements. Nodding in response, he snapped his finger, causing the apparatus to vanish as he gazed at the compass, pocketing it, "I guess I'll call it the Elf Compass."
"The initiative will always stay with me.. I'll ensure that."
