Chapter 138 “. . .“
Yu Chen was quiet for a long while. He stared at Luo Xiaolei and he looked pleased because the girl seemed ready to fulfill whatever it was that he wished. This was obviously a chance but seeing the lingering worry in her eyes, Yu Chen decided to back off. He didn’t like her worrying over him and he knew that the only thing he could do to stop her from worrying was to listen to her and focus on his recovery. Besides, he also knew that he couldn’t really do anything in his current state.
A while ago, when Gu Wei told him that Luo Xiaolei never left his side, Yu Chen felt his heart rejoicing to the highest degree. Even if he knew that she might be doing all this just because she felt responsible, he still couldn’t help but feel all mushy and pleased.
It seemed like his best choice right now was to stay as the harmless chocolate.
’That’s right. I’ll become a diamond drill all I want once I’m fully recovered. Xiaolei, make sure to prepare yourself.’
As Yu Chen was saying these words inside his head while staring at her with his dark eyes glimmering unusually bright, Luo Xiaolei didn’t know why but she felt something chilly crawl under her skin.
Her eyes narrowed and she bent closer to Yu Chen.
"What are you thinking?" she asked, suspicious. Yu Chen’s gaze turned serious.
"Sleep with me." He said and Luo Xiaolei almost choked. Gladly, she didn’t forget that this man was an innocent maiden and that his words were undoubtedly literal.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"O-okay." Without wasting a moment, Luo Xiaolei didn’t protest. She carefully laid beside him and positioned herself comfortably on the bed while avoiding the things connected to him.
She laid sideways, facing him and then, she raised her arm and carefully landed it on Yu Chen’s stomach. What she did pleased Yu Chen and he too put his palm on top her hand.
"Now close your eyes and rest." Luo Xiaolei uttered and the man glanced at her.
"Mm." he replied and he finally closed his eyes.
...
Another three days went by in a flash. Yu Chen had been so well behaved. Asking her to sleep beside him was the only thing he requested. He even said that it was okay for Luo Xiaolei to leave him if she had something important to do.
Of course, because Luo Xiaolei needed to check on her two little buns and she also needed to go to school, she had to leave him during the day. The two buns were still not allowed to visit their daddy so she had to go home and assured the little guys that their daddy was doing well. Because Yu Chen’s security was extreme, his presence in the hospital was also a secret. This was why Yu Chen’s only kin, his grandfather, never once visit him.
Luo Xiaolei had just stepped out of the university when she received a call. When she saw that the caller was Gu Wei, her brows knotted. Luo Xiaolei actually forced Gu Wei to be the tattletale for her to make sure that Yu Chen wouldn’t do anything reckless while she was gone.
"Hello?"
"Miss, miss... uhm, I think I have to report something."
"Say it."
"Boss is... well, he didn’t move recklessly but boss has been working since you left this morning without a break until now. My brother kept asking him to take a break but he’s not listening."
Upon hearing the tattletale’s report, Luo Xiaolei puffed her cheeks and dashed towards the car waiting for her. She immediately asked Guan Ye to drive faster so they arrived at the hospital after just ten minutes.
The moment Luo Xiaolei pushed the door open, Yu Chen’s fingers which were tapping on the laptop’s keyboard, immediately paused.
"I’m back." Luo Xiaolei was smiling. But her eyes were obviously displeased. She left the hospital at six in the morning, meaning, he’s been working nonstop for almost 12 hours now? This man...
"Mm." Yu Chen nodded while his trusted right hand, Gu Jinyang, quickly excused himself and left hastily, as if he was running away from something.
"You didn’t forget to rest, did you?" she asked as she approached him but Yu Chen didn’t answer. He instead quietly closed his laptop without averting his gaze from her.
Even though his face remained unreadable, Luo Xiaolei could just feel the subtle change in the way he looked at her.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"I... didn’t."
The hesitation in his voice didn’t escape Luo Xiaolei’s notice. She bent over, narrowing her eyes as she stared hard at him.
"Oh, really?"
Yu Chen silently gulped. After three long seconds, the man lifted his hand and rubbed the back of his neck. His eyes wandered for a while before he looked at her again.
"I’m sorry. I forgot." he replied and Luo Xiaolei put her hands on her own waist. She looked like a mom ready to scold her son for misbehaving.
"Haha, you forgot?" Luo Xiaolei didn’t know what to say. After heaving a deep sigh, she reached out her hand and Yu Chen quietly gave her the laptop. She understood that this man was such a workaholic and she knew that working even when he’s in the hospital bed was inevitable for someone like him but, seriously, how could he work nonstop when he was in this state?
"Yu Chen... you..." Luo Xiaolei didn’t hide how upset she was anymore. But before she could even start fuming, the man rendered her speechless once again.
"I’m sorry." the big panda was immediately repentant. And then, suddenly, he laid down. "I’m going to rest now."
Just like that, the man casually shut his eyes closed.
Luo Xiaolei: ". . ."
Luo Xiaolei’s lips hung open, utterly speechless. She was ready to give him a good scolding and yet he did this. This was simply unbelievable. She didn’t even know how to react with this.
’My god! Th-this panda! How could he...’
