Chapter 1231
A little over half an hour later, they were back at Lakeview Estates The place had been empty for a few days and
was a bit dusty Zack and Patricia helped Cornelia clean up
the place.
Tahlia’s room was spotless, not a trace of her left. She didn’t seem to plan on coming back. Cornelia hid her pain
and told Patricia, “You can have this room from now on.”
“Sure”
After sorting out Patricia’s accommodation, Zack tried to talk to Cornelia but hesitated
Cornelia, not in the mood for a deep conversation, said, “It’s late, and we have work tomorrow. You should head
home and get some sleep.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“What? Sleep? How can I sleep without knowing what’s going on?” Zack pulled Cornelia to sit on the living room
couch, “Tell me straight, why did you suddenly get a divorce?
Cornelia shrugged nonchalantly, “Didn’t feel like being married anymore, so I got a divorce”
Zack said angrily in a raised voice, “Cornelia, I get that you want to put on a brave face for others, but do you need
to do that with me? Haven’t I seen you at your worst?”
“That’s the truth Why are you so mad?” Cornelia retorted
Zack was about to explode. “You protected Marcus like crazy before. Even a bad word about hirn would set you off.
You told us countless times that you wanted to be with him forever Now, all of a sudden, you guys are divorced. Do
you expect me to believe nothing happened?”
“Let the past be the past. There’s nothing to talk about.” Cornelia didn’t want to bring up Marcus again.
Zack was so mad he wanted to strangle her, “Cornelia, are you trying to kill me with frustration?”
Cornelia didn’t respond.
Zack warned. “Don’t think by staying silent I’ll stop asking. You need to tell me what happened, or no one’s getting
any sleep tonight.”
Cornelia still didn’t respond
“Cornelia!” Zack was fuming.
“What do you want me to say?” Cornelia looked at Zack, her eyes clear and beautiful. “Say he fell for another
woman? That he brought her home for the night? That he was nice to her in front of me, but ignored me…”
Her eyes welled up with tears as she spoke, but she held them back.
Zack was furious, his anger reaching its peak, “Marcus fell for another woman? Who is she?”
Before Cornelia could answer, a face flashed through his mind, “Is it Tahlia?”
“Does it matter? Does knowing who she is matter?”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmZack retorted, “Doesn’t it? Maybe it really doesn’t! I can’t believe Marcus could do something like this. I thought he
was different, trustworthy, that he would always treat you
right…
Zack held Cornelia tightly, gently patting her back, “Cornelia, cry it out. Let all the pain flow out with your tears.
After tonight, don’t shed another tear for this undeserving
man.”
Cornelia forced a smile, holding back her tears, “I won’t cry for a man who doesn’t deserve it.”
“Crying doesn’t make you weak.” Zack looked at Cornelia’s brave face, his heart aching
He used to think that Cornelia had finally found a good man, that someone would take care of her, and he could
safely leave her to Marcus. Who would’ve thought it would end up in divorce?
“All I did was see a man’s true colors and got a divorce. Nothing to cry about,” Cornelia said stubbornly.
“You’re always so strong. Zack sighed.
“Do I have a choice?” Cornelia gave a bitter smile.
