In a forest filled with withering trees covered in thick snow stood a building akin to an old mansion made of dark gray stones.
Through the window glass visible from the outside, several torches could be seen lighting up the room. The light of the flames flickered following the light gusts of wind from the air ventilation.
In the building, more precisely the room that could be recognized as the dining room, dinner was served on a grand long table with candles neatly arranged as both decorations and light sources.
The dinner that consisted of various scrumptious dishes was untouched, and none of the dozens of people seated at the sides of the table seemed to have any appetite.
Meanwhile, at the end of the long dinner table in the lavish kingdom-like dining room, a person was resting his chin on his left hand covered in a thin black cloth.
“They defeated it,” he mumbled with a low, cold voice barely enough for everyone there to hear.
Nobody gave a response. Only the sound of the blowing wind attempting to enter the room from the windows at each corner of the rectangular room filled the area.
“How did you return empty-handed?”
Bang!
The man at the end banged the table, causing some of the dishes to jump from their plates.
“F-Forgive me, sir, it’s all my fault,” someone suddenly stood from his chair and kowtowed on the floor to the man who seemed to be the leader of them all.
“Your reason?” The leader wasn’t interested in telling him to stop his act of worship.
“NightFall, WynterRain’s brother. We’re forbidden from killing him.” The kowtowing man’s voice trembled. At the same time, a breeze blew his hood down.
With the minimal light in the room, all the other black-robed people peeked to see who dared to anger their leader.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtTheir eyes widened in shock. The man wasn’t supposed to be able to log in for seven days for being killed outside a safe zone.
But he was there, at the same place they were in as if what transpired just a few hours ago was only a system bug.
“That ungrateful kid,” the man growled and clenched the glass in his hand until it broke.
Crash!
“If it wasn’t for the agreement I made with WynterRain, I would’ve gotten rid of him from the beginning.”
His hands suddenly swept the row of dishes in front of him, including the largest being a pork roast that had gone cold.
Crash!!
Everything messily fell to the floor.
Those attending the dinner could only bow their heads, unwilling to raise their faces out of fear of meeting those wrathful red eyes.
However, before the worst they expected came, the man abruptly coughed violently.
Cough! Cough! Cough!
He felt as if his heart stopped working and the system in his body instantly stopped. His body convulsed. His body was paralyzed before he finally fell from the beautifully-carved wooden chair with a painful thud.
“Boss, what happened? Are you all right?”
The man who was kowtowing to him immediately ran to check the leader’s condition with worry.
Cough! Cough!
All of a sudden, the leader forcefully gripped the man’s hand. His sharp nails scratched the man’s skin until he grimaced while enduring the pain.
With a terrifying pair of red eyes wide open, he glared at the man who managed to catch his body.
“Call him. Now,” he said with a painfully choked voice.
Nobody could save him or even lessen his pain. All they could do was call the person he asked them to.
WynterRain.
With the special connection they had with the player of unclear status in the world of LSO, they could contact him through a call using a device one-of-a-kind in the game.
A small cube akin to a die made of stainless material.
…
This wasn’t the first time their boss suddenly experienced such a thing. Every time it happened, only one person in the game could save him from being deleted by the system.
WynterRain came.
He teleported using a Portkey Crystal, directly to the room where the leader of the player killers proclaiming themselves as WynterRain’s fanatic followers rested.
The leader had lost consciousness, but his eyes were still wide open staring at the room ceiling.
“His condition is getting worse,” a man in a black robe, the only person in the room with the leader, mumbled. He was the same man who was killed in the hands of a talented young man just a few hours ago.
The man’s body shook when WynterRain appeared in front of him. Even just looking at his side profile almost caused him to lose control.
He wanted to devour WynterRain and have him for himself, right this instant.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHis eyes moistened like his mouth. He licked back his saliva before it dripped, which WynterRain noticed.
“Leave. I don’t want anyone to see me right now,” WynterRain said, annoyed from constantly being paid attention to. He then walked toward the middle-aged man lying weakly on the large bed. All the hair on his head had turned white.
Even so, the man who was told to leave didn’t move like a statue.
“I said leave.”
Whoosh!
Splat!!
With a fling of WynterRain’s left hand, sharp gusts of wind instantly tore the man’s body like thousands of blades. At the same time, the man’s body was sent flying until the door at the corner of the room blasted open.
He wasn’t killed. With his body now covered in slash injuries dripping with fresh blood, the man stood back up and gave a wide grin.
“You’re really the most powerful, WynterRain.”
“Your brother is nothing. He’s very weak. I tested him, and it was very disappointing.”
WynterRain froze on the spot, his pointy ears stiffening. His body temperature quickly rose and his face reddened.
“I thought he would be as powerful as you are, Wyn-”
Splat! Splat! Splat!
Three green arrows suddenly dashed out of WynterRain’s fingers and swiftly shot the mouth of the man talking to him, destroying his vocal cords and silencing him.
“Do not say a word about my brother with that filthy mouth of yours. Understand?”
“If you dare lay a finger on him, I will make you die a thousand painful deaths in this world.”
