"Not interested," Kyran flat-out rejected the man's proposal.
On the other hand, the rest of the people with them were looking at Kyran in disbelief. They were surprised by the latter's blunt response, but that was not the reason behind their reaction. Instead, it was how the man called Kyran.
The truth, all of them did not know Kyran's identity. They only knew that the Conclave and the Emperor decided to help him because he was from the Regis Clan. Although Kyran's feature was different from that of a Regis (he had worn the face-altering mask and had used Nar's image when he had faced everyone), they knew that the Regis Clan took in disciples each year and that all of them ended up staying and becoming official members. Because of this, the Conclave members and Army soldiers never doubted Kyran's identity.
In any case, the Head of the Conclave and the Emperor did not persuade everyone to help. They agreed willingly after knowing Kyran's circumstances. Apparently, the Royal Army and the Royal Family, particularly the Crown Princess, conspired against them.
Emperor Euan explained that he did not know the Crown Princess's plans. But after some turn of events, he discovered the truth and decided to stop them.
Basically, the Emperor wanted to save the Regis Clan.
Coincidentally, Euan and Kyran met, and from the latter, he discovered that the Conclave had a very good relationship with the Regis Clan and wanted to help.
Most of the Conclave members and Army soldiers could relate to Kyran's situation, which was why they were here now.
But what did the man call Kyran just now? And why did the latter respond without denying how the former had addressed him? Moreover, the people with Deputy Marshal Mannick did not bat an eye.
Could it be Kyran was really the new Dark Sage?
Thinking back on how he easily countered the man's attack, could that be the infamous Void magic?
The man chuckled at Kyran's blunt response. Seemingly, unconcerned by the latter's attitude, the man replied, "Don't be in a hurry to reject it. I'll give you time to think it over. After you resolve the Human plane's situation, I will come back."
Kyran's eyes narrowed. He was not interested in what the man had to say, nor would he be interested after resolving the matter in the Human plane. But Kyran was too lazy to say this. Since it was the case, then there was no point in talking.
With that in mind, Kyran disappeared and reappeared before the man. His dark purple eyes had already turned reddish-purple, with the pupils turning into silver slits.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWith one arm extended, Kyran grabbed the man's face. A thin layer of purple light covered his palm.
When the purple light touched the hem of the man's hood, it disintegrated. However, the latter vanished into thin air before Kyran could touch his flesh.
"It seems you dislike talking. He did say you are a man of few words."
Kyran spun around, intending to hit the man who seemed to have appeared behind him with the back of his forearm. However, Kyran hit nothing but air.
"It's futile. Once I use my magic, you will not be able to touch me."
Kyran's eyes flashed. A purple sphere expanded from within him, forming a full barrier around him.
The man let out a yelp before chuckling and said, "As expected. When I said what I could do, you used your magic's nature to regain the upper hand. This is how you countered my invisible attack earlier."
Kyran dispelled the Void sphere as he landed on the ground. He observed his surroundings while following the man's voice. Void short blades appeared behind him and aimed at a spot seven meters away.
Seeing Kyran's movement, Max dashed and summoned two beasts that looked like mutated bats. Both let out sonar attacks that shook the surroundings.
"Tsk," the man clicked his tongue. Distortion appeared in the space where Kyran had aimed his short blades as the man's silhouette appeared.
Mannick also made a move and dashed toward the man's silhouette spot. He leaped and raised the greatsword above his head before cleaving it downward. Concentrate magic energy flashed out from the greatsword's blade and blasted down.
"RAA!"
The man's invisibility was affected by the mutated bats' sonar attack. His silhouette could be seen as he jumped back and evaded Mannick's attack.
As soon as he jumped back, a black figure appeared behind him with a dagger in his hand.
After waiting for a long time, Reuben finally saw an opportunity to attack. He slashed at the man's silhouette from behind, aiming at the latter's neck.
Just as Reuben's dagger could touch the man's silhouette, the latter released his magic pressure, forcing Reuben, the mutated bats, Max, and Mannick back.
Kyran jumped and aimed his right hand above the edge of the man's magic pressure. A thin purple light appeared, forming a purple veil around the area where the man's pressure had expanded. He aimed to contain the man's attack and try to destroy him.
But then the man laughed as cracks appeared on the purple light before shattering. It was followed by an eruption of magic energy that instantly forced everyone to their knees.
"Gah!"
Most of the people with Kyran spat out a mouthful of blood as they fell to the ground.
Kyran, Mannick, Max, and Reuben managed to hold their own, but their body still felt the powerful force from the man's pressure.
"I did say that I don't have the intent to kill. If I did, all of you would all be dead," the man said with a powerful and oppressive tone.
His every word sent ripples in the air that seeped into their bodies, rupturing the blood vessels of those combat mages and mages whose constitutions were too weak.
"I am the Sovereign of Dusk, and I am an existence that cannot be seen and touched easily."
Kyran gritted his teeth and summoned a huge purple ring above.
"Enough, Dark Sage."
As the man spoke, the world plunged into darkness. Or at least that was how it seemed to them.
"Let us not burn the bridge before crossing it, Dark Sage," the man's voice echoed in the darkness. "I admit it is I, who attacked first, but I am only trying to confirm your identity."
Even after being plunged into darkness, Kyran did not lower his guard. He continued to observe his surroundings and find the man's location. He was aware that the world did not really fall into darkness but that all of them entered the man's domain.
Nevertheless, without grasping the man's magic, Kyran would not know how to deal with it. He initially wanted to gather some information by attacking him. But the man's movements were too hard to see, literally and figuratively speaking.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThe man's aura was also concealed, making it hard to determine what type of magic energy was responding to his magic attacks.
"I am the Sovereign of Automa's colleague, and he said you know each other. A good friend."
"I don't know any Sovereign," Kyran denied at once.
If he really knew a Sovereign and they were 'friends,' would he even have a problem dealing with the current situation in his clan? While Sovereigns could not meddle in the affairs of their own plane, they were not bound to that in another plane. Even if that plane already had a Sovereign, their mage level would be restrained at most. But if a battle happened, and they took it outside the plane, there would be no cradle to restrain their levels.
The man chuckled and said, "No. Of course, you don't. He is a new Sovereign. But before he was known as the Sovereign of Automa, he was known as Loar."
Kyran's eyes constricted after hearing this. Yes, he did know Loar. He met that guy in the Tower of Tribulation's special place. The latter was a platform master who excelled in automatons. He was also excited to learn about Kyran's Void magic.
Kyran had a good impression of Loar, but unfortunately, that was not the case with his colleagues.
"From the look in your eyes, you do know him," the man remarked in amusement. "I had doubts, but now I can confidently say this trip will be fruitful."
"If your words are true about Loar, release your domain."
"I will, as long as you swear not to do anything rash."
"Release it, or I will do exactly that."
"I may have said I came here with no ill intent, but that does not mean I will be gracious."
"Is that so."
"I know the situation in the Human plane demands your attention, and I don't really want to take up much of your time. So let us—! Oi! What are you doing!"
Kyran's eyes had already turned dark purple as his magic sense spread throughout the darkness. Soon, reddish-purple cracks appeared everywhere.
"Even if you are a Sovereign, currently, you're in the Human plane. At most, you're only at Legendary level. And Legendaries can't stop me."
