The more Kyran pondered, the more he felt anxious. He did not doubt Nolan's strength, but he was up against Sovereigns. Apart from this, he had no information about them.
"Young master! Please, slow down!" Raya's call snapped Kyran out of his reverie.
As soon as the three saw the fiery ball appear, they immediately decided to go there.
Initially, Kyran wanted to warp directly to the fiery ball's location, but Myst reminded him that other factions were observing nearby. If they appeared in a location where those people were hiding nearby, the news of the new Dark Sage would really spread throughout the empire and cause an additional problem.
Kyran no longer cared about hiding his identity, but he did not want to cause unnecessary panic. With the appearance of the fiery ball, the empire was already in an uproar. If news of the new Dark Sage's appearance added into the mix, his enemies could also pin this incident on him and add fuel to the fire.
In the end, Kyran agreed to go there on foot. Although they went there on foot, the three possessed the Regis Blessing. Kyran also confirmed that they knew how to use the Dragon Steps, albeit to a certain degree only. Nevertheless, it was enough for them to get there in a short span of time.
Kyran slowed down and turned to look at the two. Only then did he realize there was already at least seventy meters of distance between them.
'I'm doing it again,' Kyran thought, inwardly kicking himself.
One of his bad habits was overthinking. While it was true that he could control it better now. But once his emotions were in turmoil, he tended to neglect the things around him.
'I guess I can no longer see him as an annoying prick,' Kyran thought with a bitter smile after realizing that he was feeling anxious because he was worried about Nolan.
"I know you're worried about the estate, young master," Raya said as he and Myst finally caught up. "But you don't have to worry. With the speed at which our people are working, it would only take another hour or two to evacuate everyone."
"I'm not worried about that..."
Kyran's voice trailed off as he realized an important point he failed to tell them.
'That's right, I didn't tell them about Nolan!' He thought, groaning inwardly at his forgetfulness.
No, that was not entirely correct. He unconsciously decided not to tell them, especially his mother, so as not to cause unnecessary worry.
"He's right," Myst also agreed. "If Patriarch encountered any problem, they would have already sent word."
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"I know," Kyran replied. "But there is someone who went out that hole to lure the Sovereign attacking the estate's barrier."
Myst and Raya knew the few Sovereigns working with the Crown Princess. They also knew that one of them nearly destroyed the Regis barrier, thus, forcing Cade to confront the culprit. As for the hole in the sky, they only knew that new Sovereigns were trying to get in but failed because of the Sovereign's Cradle. This was why they were surprised to learn that another person actually lured the culprit who almost destroyed the estate's barrier.
"And I'm worried about him," Kyran admitted. Of course, he would not be caught dead saying it in front of Nolan.
Myst and Raya fell silent. Since they were young, they were taught how to fight and react according to the situation. Which was why they knew what it meant if someone lured their opponent away.
There were two possible causes. One, their confrontation was already at a level they could no longer hold back; thus, one lured the other to a much better location. Two, the other person could no longer keep up with his opponent and lured him away before finding a chance to escape.
Myst and Raya looked at each other. Both had the same thoughts.
If the reason the person their young master spoke of lured the Sovereign outside the hole was the second possibility, then with the fiery ball blocking the hole, that person's path of retreat had been cut off.
"Whatever happens to that person, all of us will share the burden, young master," Myst declared.
Kyran smiled wryly, "That's a little ominous. Besides, can you really share the burden and tell his sister what happened?"
"Yes," the two replied at once. Since that person made a huge sacrifice for the Regis Clan, the least they could do was ensure that person's family was well taken care of in the worst-case scenario.
Kyran could not help chuckling at their solemn response.
The two were somewhat confused. They even felt Kyran's reaction was inappropriate. It even bordered on acting insensitive about the situation.
"Alright," Kyran said with a slight nod. "If the worst-case scenario does happen, I'll let you two explain it to my mother."
With that, he turned and continued.
Myst and Raya gaped at Kyran's retreating figure dumbfoundedly. But then their expressions turned dark and cold sweat trickled down their backs.
That person's sister was Lady Rin. Did that not mean he was Lady Rin's twin brother, Nolan? That sir Nolan who was Master Cade's sworn brother turn brother-in-law?
"Y-Young master! Please don't tease us like this!"
"T-That's right, young master."
Raya and Myst complained, respectively, as they continued to follow Kyran.
Kyran took a deep breath. That short pause helped clear his mind.
Myst had a point. Nolan had the means of fending for himself, even against a Sovereign. But ultimately, they had to share the burden. With this in mind, Kyran had to find a way to lessen the burden on Nolan and get him to return to the Human plane.
It was really a pain that Nolan refused to give Kyran a means to contact him. Nolan would always tell him, 'I'll contact you.' In the end, he never did. Not even once.
Then again, even if Kyran could contact Nolan, with the latter occupied in confronting the Sovereigns, he probably could not respond.
Kyran looked at the suspended fiery ball and noted that one of the Sovereigns outside could summon a powerful fire-concentrated magic attack. That Sovereign did not necessarily possess Fire innate magic, but he or she probably had an affinity to it.
It was similar to Ruin, whose strange magic Kyran still did not know produced red lightning. However, Ruin was not a Lightning mage. He only had an affinity for it.
Probably.
The probably bit was only because Kyran did not know if Ruin possessed a Lightning-only affinity or more. After all, the latter seemed to have an affinity to Darkness and Shadow magic too.
After a few minutes of traveling, Kyran, Myst and Raya arrived at the periphery of the fiery ball.
They were shocked at the scene that greeted them.
"It already scorched the land below and it hasn't even landed yet..." Raya muttered his expression a mixture of disbelief and solemnity.
Myst furrowed his brows when he noticed a few charred bodies a few meters away.
Kyran also saw the bodies and said, "Those people are probably the ones sent by the other factions."
Raya's face twisted in agony after seeing the bodies. He was used to seeing dead bodies, but it was his first time seeing burned ones. There was something eerily different from seeing a corpse with flesh and bones to those that were burned.
Kyran looked at the fiery ball again and took a deep breath, "You two guard the periphery. Prevent others from getting close. If you also find anything or anyone suspicious that goes in, let me know. I'm going in."
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"You can't!" Myst and Ray protested at once.
It was not that they doubted Kyran's ability to survive the heat that was coming from the fiery ball that was why they disagreed. It was because Kyran was their young master and Master Cade's son. If anything happened to him, it was equivalent to endangering the future of the Regis Family.
"Let me go in and investigate," Myst added. "There is no need to endanger yourself."
Kyran looked at Myst with a slight smile, "I'll be fine."
"This isn't right, young master," Raya insisted. "We already said you don't have to do things yourself. Give the word, and we'll do it."
"I know," Kyran said. "But this is just another one of my bad habits."
That was right. Apart from overthinking, his other bad habit was doing everything by himself. It was not that he did not want to rely on others but that he was afraid of endangering them.
Kyran already tried to let others do things by themselves and ended up getting hurt badly.
A good example was what happened to Zephyr.
This was why, as much as possible, Kyran did not want to let others do something he could do himself.
Kyran took out two purple tokens and handed one each to them.
"Insert your magic energy into the token if you find anything amiss. I'll come as soon as possible," Kyran told them.
Myst opened his mouth, wanting to try persuading him again to let him go instead. In the end, he closed his mouth and sighed in resignation. One thing Kyran got from Lady Rin was her stubbornness.
"Alright. But young master, if you also encounter any danger, let us know. We'll come to your aid."
"I will."
Kyran left before they changed their mind. When he was at least twenty meters away from them, his expression turned dark, and he warped at once.
He was already close to the middle of the fiery ball when he reappeared. His dark gray eyes flickered slightly as he looked straight ahead.
"As expected, with the threat of this thing being close to the Regis Estate, you really can't stay out of it."
A handsome man in a white robe with an unearthly aura floated in the air. A thin light blue magic barrier surrounded him, protecting him from the fiery ball's heat.
The real reason Kyran did not let Myst go was because he felt the man's presence. Seeing how the latter was unaffected by the scorching heat meant his innate magic could easily counter it.
'A rare Water mage, like Tritus...'
