HAPTER AS been drinking water," he said calmly, his voice steady and infuriatingly sure. I rolled my eyes at both of them. I could take care of myself, but walking hdidn't seem like the wisest of choices, so I caved and got in Luke's truck. As Luke slid into the driver's seat, I crossed my arms and stared out the window.

I had no response to that, my anger deflating as quickly as it had risen. Silence filled the truck, the only sound the hum of the engine and the occasional rustle of leaves in the night breeze.

We pulled up to my house, and Luke killed the engine. For a moment, neither of us moved. Then, finally, he broke the silence.

"Get srest," he said, his tone leaving no room for further argument or discussion.

I turned to look at him, my anger flaring up again. "You don't get to tellwhat to do," I shot back, my voice trembling with pent-up emotion.
