CHAPTER 89 LUKE I crouched beneath the window of the grimy motel room, my stomach churning at the thought of Jess trapped inside. Dark thoughts clawed at my mind, threatening to dragunder-1 needed to pull my head out of the ass and focus.
Then, a loud bang echoed through the thin walls, followed by the sound of a chair scraping against the floor. I held my breath. Jess. She was in there. A terrible sense of dread washed overas I swallowed hard. The last thing I wanted to hear was one of them snarling h "Jess!" One of the men shouted, his voice laced with frustration. My vision began to blur, the edges of my surroundings fading as anger surged through me. What the hell are they doing to her? I knew I was outmanned. One guy against two? Especially if one of them was Bryan. I might have size and strength, but Bryan was a professional football player- big, fast, and unpredictable. He could take a hit as well as he could deliver one. The last thing I wanted was to confront him without backup.
I edged away from the window, my heart pounding louder than my frantic thoughts. I needed help. Fast.
As I ducked into the shadows behind the parked vehicles, I pulled out my phone, hands trembling.

Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtI dialed Josh-my only lifeline. "Josh!" I hissed as soon as he picked up. "I found her. Send the police. She's in a motel room, and I think the squad car's here with a pickup truck. There are two men inside. I think Jess locked herself in the bathroom." "Luke, wait," Josh's urgent voice pierced through my agitation. "You shouldn't do anything stupid. The police are just a few minutes out. Stay put." I shook my head, even though he couldn't see me. "No, she's in trouble! You don't understand-she could be hurt! I can't just sit here!" "Luke!" he snapped, bringingback to reality.
"Just hang tight. Just a few more minutes, okay?" I wanted to argue, but the line went dead before I could respond. The silence was suffocating, interrupted only by the sound of hammering from the other side of the wall.
I discarded the call, clenching my fists in frustration. What else could I do? Then I heard it-a soft sob, muffled but unmistakable. My heart dropped as I turned, instincts kicking in.
I stalked back toward the sound, my gut twisting with every step. High above the ground, a small window was barely big enough for anyone to squeeze through.
But desperation painted a chilling scene. A bloody hand gripped the railing outside, trembling as though it might collapse under its own weight.
08 013 CHAPTER 89 "Jess?" I whispered.
No response-only silence. My stomach twisted further. There was noise inside the motel room. Maybe she couldn't hear me.
"Jess!" I called again, louder this time.
Still no answer. "Fuck." I pulled out my phone and checked the message from Josh: Josh: Police are 5 minutes out.
Blood smeared against the white paint of the railing, and I took a step closer, struggling against the rising panic. How badly was she hurt? What had they done to her? "Shit... Shit..." I cursed under my breath. I had to get her back. But my options were limited. If I played this wrong, she could end up getting hurt worse-or worse, I could lose her... Who was I kidding? I already lost her.
Then I heard a loud noise, the unmistakable sound of wood breaking. I glanced up at the hand gripping the railing. I had no way of getting up there-not with the gutter beneath. Then, her hand was gone. The silence that followed was suffocating.
"Fuck it. I'm getting her." I turned back toward the hotel room.

That asshole. I knew it.

I watched as they carried in an unconscious Jess, placing her on the bed. My gut twisted at the sight of her; her hands were bleeding, her head battered, and her body lay limp.
The way Bryan looked at her-like she was skind of trophy -madewant to rip his throat out. But they might take her and drive off if I burst in now. The last thing I could afford was that. I needed to think. Wait until one of them left.
I turned around and texted the license plate numbers to Josh, but my heart raced as the guy wearing a blue baseball cap walked toward the door Iran to the corner, flattening myself against the wall, holding my breath as he climbed into the police vehicle. The asshole was one of the kidnappers. It took everything innot to pull him out of that car and rearrange his face.
I took a deep breath, counting down the seconds, waiting until he rounded the corner before I stalked toward the front door.
