Mafia Kings: Valentino: Chapter 54 We'd just finished and were lying there all sweaty and spent when her phone suddenly rang.

"Oh shit, that's him!" Cat exclaimed as she jumped up to answer the phone.

I groaned inwardly.

Playtwas over.

Back to the real fuckin' world.

"Hello? Um... no, not yet... okay..." Cat looked atapologetically as she handedthe phone. "He says he wants to talk to you." I took it from her. "Yeah?" "I told you to be ready to go in two hours," Paolo said, half nervously, half pissed.

I clenched my jaw.

I already had Don Vicari and Rocco tellingto Dance, little monkey - I didn't need a fuckin' driver chewingout, too.

"I'll jump in the shower and be ready in five minutes," I said coldly.

"Alright, well, hurry it up." "Make that ten," I snarled.

"Look, man - if the Don gets suspicious, it's BOTH of our dicks on the chopping board." I noticed he wasn't callingboss anymore.

Now it was Look, man.

"Yeah, yeah," I grumbled. "Just wait in the lobby." "I'll be outside in the car," he said His refusal to follow my orders irkedeven more.

"What about Caterina?" "She can stay in the hotel tonight." "Am I going to see her again?" I was nervous that this was the last time, but it cout as irritation with Paolo.

"When I find out where you're working tomorrow with Rocco, I'll tell her. She can meet you there." Sweet relief flooded through me.

But now there was another problem.

"How am I supposed to get away from Rocco?" I asked.

"That's on YOU, man. I can only tell her what town you'll be in." I didn't like his tone of voice - It's YOUR problem, not MINE - but I brushed that aside as I tried to figure out a solution.

"See you outside in five minutes," Paolo ordered.

"Yeah, sure," I said dismissively, then hung up.

"What's going on?" Cat whimpered.

I stood up. "The good news is I get to see you again." The look on her face was pure joy. She rushed into my arms and huggedtight.

"The bad news is, I need to figure out how to get away from the asshole I work with every day." Cat frowned. "What asshole?" "Don Vicari's son, Rocco. I have to follow him around and do stupid bullshit." I thought for a second, then asked, "Did Alessandra give you any cash?" "Oh, yes," Cat said happily as she ran for her purse. "So did Don Rosolini and Niccolo." "...what?!" I couldn't have heard that last part correctly.

"They stoppedbefore I left. Niccolo searched my purse and found the money Alessandra gave me. She told them it was so I could start over somewhere else. Don Rosolini not only gavea lot more, he ordered Niccolo to givewhat was in his wallet." "WHAT?!" I shouted, then burst out laughing. "Niccolo had to give you money because Daordered him to?!" "Yes," Cat said, beaming.

"I'm sure that stuck in his craw," I chuckled.

I loved the idea of Daoverruling Nic and ordering him around.

"All together, they gavea lot," Cat said as she dumped out her purse's contents on the bed.

I figured she was just impressed because it was more money than she'd ever seen at one time, but I didn't have particularly high hopes - Until I saw the giant wads of cash that fell out on the sheets.

Holy SHIT! I grabbed the rubber-banded rolls of bills and looked at them.

One was 20s and 50s - probably 10,000 euros - And the other was 100-euro bills. Possibly 20 grand.

Plus there was a lot of loose money, too. Maybe another couple of grand.

All told, about 35,000 euros.

Daaaaaaamn! I mean, I'd seen entire briefcases full of money - millions in single transactions -
