Maisie crouched on the ground, wailing. Her daughter, who hadn't yet had a chance to see the world, was buried
there.
Slowly, she walked to the outer edge of the courtyard and sat in front of a stone tablet. Repeatedly, she stroked the
words engraved on it, tears streaming down her face.
Since the day Daniel suggested she abort the child, she had planned to escape.
-
Back then.
They resided on the city's east side, so she fled to the west, renting a shabby house in the suburban area. The
conditions were poor—she cooked in the corridor and sought help from an old classmate to find a job.
Fearing Daniel's pursuit, she avoided using her ID and worked as a daily laborer in a restaurant kitchen, performing
the dirtiest and most exhausting tasks.

eating only one every two days.
Despite the harsh conditions, she found contentment. Enduring anything to settle down and bring her child into the
world was her sole focus.
Yet, Daniel sought to ruthlessly destroy even this glimmer of hope.
-
Maisie clenched her fists, trembling. The pain in her heart transformed into intense hatred, growing like vines in the
depths of her being.
-
When Maisie returned to the hotel, Daniel was furious, blaming his subordinates for not taking good care of her.
The hotel manager, security personnel, and his men stood in a row, heads lowered, afraid to lift them.
When Maisie attempted to leave, no one dared to stop her. The bodyguards refrained from following too closely,
aware of her aversion to being trailed.
Daniel couldn't find anyone who knew where Maisie had gone too. It made him instantly anxious.
"Ah, Ms. Squire, you're back!" The sharp-eyed manager rushed toward Maisie as if grasping a lifesaving straw.
Daniel turned to see Maisie approaching. He hurried to grab her hand, attempting to inquire about her whereabouts
but was met with her icy gaze.
Maisie looked at him emotionlessly. Seconds felt like centuries. Daniel had a forbidding feeling and forced a smile
before attempting to put his arm around her shoulder.
Maisie dodged, glaring at him, then walked toward the elevator.
"Maisie!" Daniel pursued her. He had been inexplicably anxious since the afternoon, unable to focus even during the
board meeting.
Maisie pressed the elevator button. A breaking news bulletin played on the hotel lobby's TV as they waited.
"Now, a breaking news report... Just now, a violent incident occurred at the train station. Several middleaged men

Startled, Maisie ran a few steps closer.
The scene was chaotic—the police had cordoned off the train station. Ambulances rushed by, leaving large
bloodstains where onlookers had gathered.
"It is reported that the pregnant woman had no acquaintance with these several men. In resisting the attack, the
woman's husband attempted to protect his wife and was beaten in vital areas. He died on the spot."
Maisie's heart pounded, her eyes fixed on the television.
A few minutes later.
"The latest information just in: the pregnant woman who was attacked at the train station has suffered severe
injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she died on the way due to ineffective rescue efforts."
Maisie's face turned pale. Her legs weakened, and she collapsed to the floor.
Daniel quickly went to support her, but she let out a scream, "Ah!"
"Maisie, what's wrong?!"
"Don't touch me!" Maisie pushed him away, her mind on the brink of collapse.
