Chapter 627 The master bedroom door was half-open, and there was little Mateo, clutching the door frwith eyes red from crying.
"Mommy, Daddy, please don't fight-" He must have woken up at spoint, still bleary-eyed, his small face streaked with tears that his tiny hands couldn't wipe away fast enough.
It had been ages since he'd seen his dad, and he missed him dearly.
But why did Dad have to argue with Mom the moment he got back? He hated it when they fought; he just wanted them both to be happy. Both parents turned to see their child and fell silent.
Selena was the first to move. She walked over, knelt down, and gently wiped away his tears, comforting him.
"Mateo, Mommy and Daddy weren't fighting, we were just talking a bit too loudly. We're sorry for waking you. Don't cry, how about I sleep with you tonight?" Mateo swallowed his tears and nodded obediently.

After washing his face, mother and son lay down together, Mateo snuggling into her arms as Selena gently patted his back until he drifted off.
Suddenly, Mateo's small hand clung to her, whispering, "Mommy, don't cry either." Selena was taken aback.
She touched her own face and realized it was wet with tears.
She let out a small, self-deprecating chuckle.
Hugging her son tightly, she said, "Mommy won't cry. With you and your sister around, I'll be very happy." Everett stood at the door, watching, his heart aching.
It was as if he'd shattered his own happiness.
Everett didn't sleep a wink that night.
Knowing Selena didn't want him around, he stayed outside the room, sitting silently through the night. As dawn broke, he finally stretched his stiff limbs and went to freshen up.
At breakfast, Ava had prepared three plates, but as soon as Everett sat down, she quickly pulled one away, muttering under her breath.
"Sorry, sir, this one's for the stray dog outside. It's been hanging around lately, and I've been feeding it. Funny how even animals know who's kind to them; it wags its fail when it sees me, unlike speople..." "Who can't seem to stay loyal! So easily swayed by a little attention from outsiders!" Ava was relentless with her digs.
Everett: " Seeing his dad without breakfast, Mateo slid his plate over, "Daddy, share with me." Everett's cold heart felt a flicker of warmth. He shook his head, swnove "Daddy's not hungry. You eat, and I'll take you to school afterward Mateo didn't answer right away. Instead, he looked over at his mom, his big eyes checking in for her approval. Selena took a sip of her coffee.
Then, with warmth in her voice, she said, "Let Daddy take you." She wouldn't deny her son his rights; the issues between adults weren't his to bear.
Mateo beamed, taking big bites of his breakfast.

Closing the car door, she turned to face Everett, who stood behind her.
His hands in his pockets, his deep m eyes locked onto hers filled with e threads of affection.
Meeting his gaze, Selena spoke slowly and clearly, "Let's not drag out the divorce. I want an answer today!" With that, she turned to leave.
As she passed by, his hand suddenly grabbed her wrist.
He turned his face towards her, his eyes full of pain, "Does it really have to be this way?"
