In that moment, I was absolutely certain of one thing: Ashton was far from the innocent, straightforward man he appeared to be. He was a master of catching people off guard-a pro at flirting when he wanted to be.

My face flushed, and I found myself too embarrassed to meet his gaze. "Dream on," I muttered before turning and running off.

Behind me, I heard him chuckle softly. It was clear he had teasedon purpose.

Could that memory have been real? Could it have been Ashton? But there was no way to know for sure. I'd been too young at the time. The only people who might have known were my parents, and they were no longer here. The only person left who could giveanswers was Ashton. He was much older than me, so there was a chance he still remembered.

Still, I couldn't bring myself to ask him about it.

Even though I was running, Ashton's long strides quickly caught up to me. "The lights are all set up," he said casually. "Do you have ttonight?" I knew he wantedto see the lighting effects he'd been working on, but my heart was still racing from his teasing. So, I replied on purpose, "Nope. I'm busy tonight." "When will you have time, then?" Ashton asked, his tone calm but persistent.

"I'm not sure yet. I..." Just as I was about to say something to keep him guessing, my phone rang. It was a call from Caleb.

I gestured to Ashton to givea moment, stepped aside, and answered the call. "Caleb?" "Where are you?" he asked casually.
