Chapter 618
“Cynthia, why weren’t you angry when I told you I’d regained some of my cognitive
abilities? After all, I deceived you.” Joshua’s eyes flickered as he posed a question.
“I would be upset if you continued to lie, but you told the truth in time. Moreover,
regaining your cognitive abilities is a good thing. After observing you today, I had a
suspicion about your mental state,” Cynthia explained.
“You knew I was recovering?
“I didn’t know for sure, but I had my suspicions.”
‘Cynthia, you’re as smart as our neighbor, Matthew. He said I had recovered when he took
me over yesterday. I didn’t expect you to figure it out either.” Joshua’s choice of words
changed, fitting his seventeen–year–old persona.
Cynthia looked at Joshua.
Captain knew about this?
She asked for clarification, “What do you mean by that?”
Joshua explained what had transpired before.
Of course, after explaining, he remembered to justify himself, “Matthew said I had
recovered. Initially, I wanted to admit it, but then I thought about how I had lied to you. If
Matthew low before you did, I was afraid you would get angry. That’s why I continued to
act like a child.”
“I see. It’s all in the past now. Let it be.”
No wonder Captain kept reminding her to pay attention to the details.
A flicker of emotion crossed Joshua’s eyes. He had just admitted everything. Would
Cynthia blame Matthew for hiding the truth?
“You’ve just recovered from your fever, you should rest a bit more. I’m going to discuss
with Sean about our meeting tomorrow,” Cynthia advised him.
“Okay,” Joshua obediently replied.
Upon returning to her study, Cynthia was unaware that Joshua had reached for his phone
and texted Sean. [I’ve told Cynthia about the recovery of my mental abilities, but I claimed
it to be at about seventeen years old. She’s going to bring me to see you tomorrow. Don’t
let anything slip]
Sean responded with confusion, [Wasn’t the plan not to say anything?]
Joshua replied, [Lying is wrong. She doesn’t appreciate being lied to.]
Sean was left somewhat speechless. Just as Sean was considering a response, another
message from Joshua arrived. You also have the choice not to meet with her. She’ll be
reaching out to you shortly. Think carefully about your response.)
The best outcome would be for Cynthia not to take Joshua to see Sean. If they went, they
would inevitably discover something out of place. After acknowledging Joshua’s message,
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSean was left sighing in his medical base. Knowing Cynthia’s character, she would
undoubtedly come to him with numerous questions after learning about Joshua’s partial
mental recovery. She would also question why he had not informed her about the results
as per their previous agreement.
However, he did not want to deceive her. He had already put her in a tough situation once,
and doing so again might make it difficult to seek her help in the future if something were
to happen. With these thoughts, he decided to switch oft his phone, purchase a plane
ticket, and travel abroad. He needed to delve deeper into Joshua’s case at the overseas
medical base. It was not exactly avoidable.
And so, he packed some essentials and left the base. Meanwhile, Cynthia, secluded in her
study, was oblivious to all these developments. She had not contacted Sean immediately,
her thoughts occuplest by Joshua.
From yesterday till today, taking into account all the evidence, she made a crucial
realization: Joshua’s acting skills could rival
those of a top actor. Even she had not noticed anything off about his actions, words, or
expressions.
