Esther dried herself with a towel and wore the loungewear Jolene had left in the bathroom.
Observing Esther’s graceful exit from the bathroom, Jolene couldn’t help but feel jealous. Esther’s beauty was truly
captivating, even to Jolene. Would any man be able to resist her allure?
What stood out was that Esther had a kind heart beneath that beauty. If Jolene were a man, she’d want to marry
her, build a splendid home, and keep her safe within its walls.
“Oh, I almost forgot to grab a hairdryer!” Jolene handed the hairdryer to Esther, who promptly began to dry her
hair.
Unlike Jolene, who had dyed her hair pink, Esther’s natural-colored hair cascaded long and glossy, gleaming like the
finest satin under the room’s lights.
A pleasant ‘ding’ reminded them as the blender finished its work. Esther set down the hairdryer and ventured into
the kitchen. She expertly boiled a pair of eggs and some broccoli. Finally, she arranged a plate of fruits with

“Jojo, breakfast is served.”
Jolene surveyed the rich spread on the table and exclaimed, “This is the first time someone has prepared breakfast
for me.”
“You’ve never had breakfast before?” Esther asked.
Jolene smiled. “I never used to wake up this early.”
Two women who shared a common experience sat down at the dining table to enjoy breakfast together.
“You’re quite the cook.” Jolene found the smoothie sweet and delicious.
Esther asked, “Jealous?”
Jolene responded with a grin. “They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach…”
“I learned these skills while in prison,” Esther remarked calmly. “They offer various classes, and much of what I
know was acquired during my time there.”
Jolene’s spoon paused midair. She asked softly, “Don’t you hate him?”
“What’s the use of hating him? Can he give me back the five years of my youth?” Esther lamented.
Jolene shook her head.
“Now that you’re pregnant, you need to eat, rest, and take care of yourself. If you decide to keep this child, don’t
stay up late and avoid harming your body. Pregnancy is just the beginning. There will be numerous prenatal check-
ups ahead, each a new challenge. Your own health directly impacts your child’s well-being.”
Jolene nodded earnestly. She instinctively rested her hand on her abdomen and asked, “Do you think he’ll agree to
let me have this child?”
“I don’t know, but I’ll support you.”
While Esther was speaking, her phone rang, and she answered it excitedly when she saw the caller ID.
“Xara!”

Xara’s voice brimmed with excitement. “Esther, we’ve decided to consult your mentor to treat Jacob.”
Esther asked, “What about Sunshine?”
“She’s with Jacob.” Xara turned to Steffan, seated beside her, and asked, “How much longer until we arrive?”
Steffan replied, and she continued speaking to Esther. “We’ll reach the international airport in about an hour,
Esther. You don’t need to pick us up. I’ll send you the address of our accommodation. You can come meet me
there.”
“Okay.”
Thinking of Sunshine lifted Esther’s spirits inexplicably. After her call with Xara, she called Clark, asking him to pick
her up with Felix.
Concerned that Jolene might misinterpret things, Esther placed her changed clothes in a paper bag and advised,
“You can text or call me if you need anything. I’ll try to talk to Mr. Pendleton, but I suggest that you—”
Jolene understood what Esther was about to say and cut her off. “Don’t tell him I’m carrying his child!”
She warned, “I’ll run away if you do! You’ll never find me!”
