“Clark! Wake up!
“Clark, don’t fall asleep!”
Esther felt a rush of fear, her heart pounding. He worried that Clark might not make it.
Gabriel gritted his teeth through the pain and approached the cement truck.
“Get out of the car,” he commanded.
The cement truck’s door creaked open, and a man smelling of alcohol stumbled out. As he stepped out, a card fell
from the truck.
Gabriel leaned down to pick up the card, too distracted to keep an eye on the drunk driver.
The card featured a bright poppy flower on the front and had a simple message on the back.

It was signed with “X.”
In an instant, Gabriel stood straight and scanned his surroundings, an unsettling feeling creeping over him. These
were the same drug dealers who had left a similar card at Esther’s old house when they set it on fire.
Gabriel glanced over at Esther, who was with Clark and Felix some distance away, and felt a chilling sense of being
targeted by these criminals.
He rushed up to the cement truck driver, grabbed him by the collar, and demanded, “Tell me! Who told you to do
this?”
The driver appeared bewildered. “What are you talking about?”
Gabriel pointed to the card. “This card! Where did it come from?”
The driver asked, “What card?”
Gabriel glared at the driver and waited for the ambulance and police to arrive.
The intoxicated driver wouldn’t escape without consequences.
The troubling question was: where were those drug dealers hiding? Were they watching him or Esther?
The ambulance and police’s blaring sirens echoed as they arrived.
Clark was seriously injured but not critical, thanks to Agatha. Felix had merely fainted from shock.
Esther, Gabriel, and Felix underwent thorough medical examinations, revealing various minor injuries.
Gabriel hesitated but left the card in his bag. He informed Esther that he needed to leave to investigate why the
card was in the cement truck driver’s possession.
Jasper hurried to the hospital.

“I’m fine,” Esther replied while clutching Felix’s hand. Her tears were flowing uncontrollably. “But I’m worried about
Clark.”
“Clark will pull through,” Jasper assured her. “Don’t worry.”
Esther nodded slightly, trying to comfort herself. “With Grandma Agatha here, Clark will be okay. But… Jasper, why
was there a cement truck?”
Jasper sat beside her and gently asked, “Esther, what did you say? A cement truck?”
“Yes,” Esther said, feeling dazed, her voice trembling. “If Clark hadn’t shielded and received most of the impact, we
might not have made it.”
Jasper’s words left Esther with a sense of foreboding. “You don’t think this was an accidental car crash, do you?”
Jasper’s suggestion took Esther aback. Her voice quivered as she asked, “Could Bradley be behind this?”
