Despite the softness of Sonia’s words, the Interns could clearly hear them. They left a shadow of

on their faces.

Candice maintained her composure and said dismissively, “If that’s all, you can leave now.”

Sonia responded with a forced chuckle, “I was just offering a friendly reminder.”

Candice remained silent and continued to prompt Sonia to leave.

Sonia felt as though Candice was looking down on her.

Shortly after Sonia departed, an intern questioned, “Why Is Sonla being made permanent in the

Secretary’s

Office? Isn’t she from another department?”

Candice replied calmly. “Her transfer isn’t finalized yet.”

The interns‘ disappointment was evident, given Sonia’s known relationship with their boss.

Kayla, always candid, reassured the interns. “Don’t fret. Sonia’s skills and achievements might not

stand out. Aether Corporation doesn’t base its decisions on appearances.”

This conversation brought a sense of relief to the interns, while Candice remained silent, deep in

thought.

Just outside. Sonia stood hidden from view. She bit her lip, her face pale, but soon composed herself,

Candice wouldn’t exclude her.

After the interns left. Candice was left pondering in front of her computer, massaging her temples. She

had

intended to retain all five interns, but Sonia complicated matters.

Seeing Candice’s grave expression, Kayla looked concerned. “Is everything okay?”

Candice shook her head slightly and said, “Just considering sthings.”

Kayla frowned. “But with Sonia here and only five spots…”

She trailed off, but her implication was clear. Candice assured her, “I’ll take care of it.”

Kayla returned to her work, aware that it wasn’t her place to be concerned.

Candice gathered the regularization applications and put them in a folder.

She and Kayla walked to the cafeteria for lunch, where they ran into Tamia.

Tamia was friendly as usual and cover, tapping on the table jokingly. “Lost in thought?” she

teased. “I’ve

been calling you.”

“Candice is troubled with a difficult decision.” Kayla couldn’t help but mention Sonia and the interns‘

predicament.

Despite her morning reassurances, she knew Sonia’s placement was inevitable, and that it posed a

challenge for Candice.

Tamia downplayed the issue. “Why worry? There’s an opening in the Export Department. Just transfer

someone there.”

The idea of transferring to a different department made Kayla uneasy. “Is that really okay?”

And don’t forget, we have new interns coming in. You need to be there for the interviews.”

Candice acknowledged this but seemed distracted.

Later, while Kayla stepped out for coffee, Candice and Tamia headed back upstairs.

In the elevator, Candice double–checked with Tamia. “A resignation needs a month’s notice, correct?”

Tamia looked at her with surprise. “You aren’t seriously considering resigning, are you?”

Candice checked the date on her phone and responded with detachment. “I’ll get it to you by Friday.”

She brushed past, ignoring Tamia’s astonished expression and left the elevator, composed.

Following several hectic days at work, Candice finally took a breather.

On Friday morning, she delivered all her compiled data to Alex and then presented her resignation to

Tamia.

Upon seeing Candice actually turn in her resignation, Tamia’s expression was a blend of surprise and

concern.

“I thought you were kidding,” she said.

Candice calmly stated, “My contract is nearing its end anyway.”

“And Mr. Elysian?”

“He’s aware. We’ve discussed it.” Candice had already informed Alex about her decision to resign.

Tamia remained concerned. “Are you sure about this?”

Candice had.dedicated her youth to the company, and anyone who had worked there for a while

understood

how much she cherished it.

“If this is about Sonia and Mr. Elysian, you don’t have to leave. You’ve worked hard for your position,”

said, thinking Candice was leaving because of personal issues.

Candice lowered her gaze. It took her a moment before she replied. “It’s not about them. I need some

toff.”

Leaving Tamia, Candice felt unsettled. Back in her office, she gathered the intern applications and

headed

upstairs.

Finding Sonia absent, Candice entered Alex’s office and laid out the list of names for permanent

positions in

the secretary’s office, including Sonia.

“Six people?” Alex asked, surprised.

“A resignation opened up a spot,” she explained.

Exiting Alex’s office, Candice relaxed her tense grip and paused momentarily at the door before moving

on.

Today was Joe’s discharge day. After an extended workday, Candice picked him up and escorted him

to the nursing home
