“Candy.” Joe panted heavily, but he was still trying to comfort Candice. He said in a deep voice. Candy,

don’t be afraid. I will talk to those people and set things straight. They’re just spouting

nonsense. None of them are good people!”

Her grandfather was defending her without need for explanation, and Candice could not help but cry

even harder. After a brief moment of silence, she remembered that her grandfather could not get too

worked up. Trying to sound as normal as possible, she said, “Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’m fine, and I don’t

care about these things. You don’t need to worry about me.”

Her grandfather seemed like the only person in the world standing by her side without any

reservations.
